visualizing frequencies
Dear everybody,
In our game-theory lesson we have run several classroom-experiments where the
students had to decide for a natural number between one and seven. I have
troubles now to visualize the results: be a the vector of answers.
hist(a) will not assume natural numbers as answers, but rational. It will make
the brakes exactly at the natural numbers, which is difficult to interpret,

how can I do that?
I have tried with matplot function but I did not succeed.
Thanks for your help.

plot question
Hi,
I am new to R so forgive me if the following query is somewhat simple. I have a small tab-separated file with n records of glucose values, one record per day, seven measurements per day. It looks like this:
date sober no vm nm va na vs
20091229 NA 6.8 NA 2.7 11.7 2.7 6.2
I'd like to make a graph on which the glucose day curves are plotted

Windows 7 64 bits with Samba PDC (trust relationship problem)
Hi
I would like to know if anyone has success in making 64-bit Windows Seven
work with a Samba PDC without any problems?
I have a Samba 3.5.6 server running on Debian Lenny. Samba works properly
and is using the LDAP backend, which is integrated with Kerberos, GSSAPI,
etc...
Abount Windows Seven... I changed the registry as recommended Samba wiki,
applied the hotfix to not give the DNS error

Question regarding dataframes, matrix, frame, etc...
Hi all,
As of now, I have a 15x8 matrix (name is "asdf"). The first seven columns
contain numbers while the last column contains a string. The class of each
column is "character". When I use the plot function to display a scatter
plot between any of the two columns, ie. plot(asdf[, 1], asdf[, 2])
everything works fine. However, if I want to use the command "pairs" to

Boxplot Fill Pattern
Hello R Help!
I would like to make a legible boxplot of tree growth rates for each of
seven tree species at each of seven different sites. It's a lot of data to
put on one figure, I know. I made a beautiful, interpretable figure using
color, but my target journal can't deal with color figures. I can use seven
shades of grey to fill the boxes, but the figure then becomes
uninterpretable -

Referencing variable names rather than column numbers
I apologize for how basic a question this is. I am a Stata user who
has begun using R, and the syntax differences still trip me up. The
most basic questions, involving as they do general terms, can be the
hardest to find solutions for through search.
Assume for the moment that I have a dataset that contains seven
variables: Pollution, Temp, Industry, Population, Wind, Rain and
Wet.days. (This

R seven years ago
Hello everyone,
As some may know, today Google unveiled its 2001 search index [1]. I
was curious to see how was R like at that time, and was not
disappointed. Compared to today's main page [2], seven years ago the
page looked [3] a bit rudimentary, especially the graphic. (It is wort
noting that structurally the pages are very similar.) What definitely
changed is the `Contributed

Windows Seven
Dear all,
I am sure this question was asked many times, but I read that Windows
Seven should work with Samba 3.2
We have SLES 11 (SuSE / Novell) and the version provided is smbd version
3.2.7-11.6-2057-SUSE-CODE11
Is it possible to join domain with Windows Seven to this version or is
it incompatible ?
I also read this, but it's not clear if 3.2.7 would also work or not ?

metRology package
I'm having trouble with a simple application with metRology. I need to
estimate the uncertainty of the density thickness of seven sheets of film.
This is calculated from measurements of mass, length and width of
rectangular samples of film.
It's not too hard to calculate the whole thing with a little Monte Carlo
loop. I get about 0.07 with this:

I'll see what I can do. However, I have to balance your need for "big
bang" change with Chris' fervor for incremental changes. Making a huge
change makes his review task harder. There are only seven files to merge
so at most seven change sets. I'll probably get these done early next
week. Sorry for the hassle, but I want to get lib/System simple,

Contour plots of four two-dimensional matrices
I have four large two-dimensional matrices of which I want to create contour
plots. Something like
filled.contour(<matrix>)
contourplot(<matrix>)
works but only gives me one plot at a time. If I combine the four matrices
into one three-dimensional matrix, which I'll name "seven", there should be
a way of doing something like this
contourplot(seven[,,k] for k in 1 to 4)

lmer estimated scale
I have data consisting of binary responses from a large number of
subjects on seven similar items. I have been using lmer with
(crossed) random effects for subject and item. These effects are
almost always (in the case of subject, always) significant additions
to the model, testing this with anova. Including them also increases
the Somers' Dxy value substantially.

Sharing printer with samba on Windows 7 = Error 0x00000057
Hi,
I have the following setup :
- A Linux Debian Jessie server, with cups and samba installed.
- A LAN with Windows clients, mostly Windows Seven (and two XP).
I am trying to share the cups-pdf printer to Windows 7 clients.
At first I wanted to provide printing drivers from Samba, and did a
huge mess in config files, without getting a working configuration on
Windows clients.
So I cleaned up

Jeff/Chris,
So, I opted for the smallest "big bang" commit that made sense.
Hopefully this won't be too hard for Chris to review and yet it gets the
bulk of the lib/System changes over and done with. Although you'll see
a log of commit messages, it turned out that the bulk of the remaining
lib/System work was "remove this useless file". There are still some

Comparing GLMMs and GLMs with quasi-binomial errors?
Dear All,
I am analysing a dataset on levels of herbivory in seedlings in an
experimental setup in a rainforest.
I have seven classes/categories of seedling damage/herbivory that I want to
analyse, modelling each separately.
There are twenty maternal trees, with eight groups of seedlings around each.
Each tree has a TreeID, which I use as the random effect (blocking factor).
There are two
