ipconfig does not time out (klibc-utils)
Package: klibc-utils Version: 1.5.15-1 Hello! I'm trying to boot Debian from a different nic than the first one. After some digging into klibc and initramfs, it seems like DEVICE=all in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf is near a solution (I cannot reliable tell, which name the nic has, it may be eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3, ...; as I've machines with one to four nics). /scripts/functions

Using --link-dest= multiple times - performance?
Hello guys! I'm thinking about using rsync with multiple times --link-dest= specified in ccollect [0]. Now I'm wondering about the performance and memory usage: - How much more memory will rsync use for every --link-dest= parameter? - How heavy do you expect it to influence performance with every additional --link-dest= parameter? In general I think that rsync could either - use

Has anyone tested AutoCad 2000 with any recent wine ?
Has anyone tested AutoCad 2000 with any recent wine ? Once upon a time I got Autocad R13 to work, only toolbars and screenrefresh was not working to 100%, then it broke completely, and 10 months ago when I tested with AutoCad 2000 it was still broken. Has anyone done any testing recently ? AutoCad and Quark express are two very important pieces of software for wine, since they both lack

Preserve owner/group on TARGET
Hello, I've been using rsync for some time as a data migration tool, but this time I'm trying to do something a little different, and I can't seem to make things work the way I want. Essentially, I want to rsync data from a source, but I want the owner/group/perms on the TARGET to not change (i.e. not get updated with the owner/group/perms from the source). In testing I discovered

(Demo CD available) Has anyone tested AutoCad 2000 with any recent wine ?
AutoDesk now offers a free 15 day demo CD of AutoCad. I hope some of the talanted wine developers take the opportunity to get the CD and try to get it to work. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/item/0,,616392-123112,00.html In my opinion there are two windows application that are more important than others and that is AutoCad and Quark express. Linux does not have good alternatives to theese, and for

Samba: 3.5.6 Ctdb: 1.0.112-12-1 Filesystem: glusterfs Sometimes i have the problem that some Office-Files are locked for other MS-Office-Users. If i try to access those locked files using linux(mount cifs and open it with openoffice) i can open it. I am not 100% sure, but it seems that i can open those files with office2003 too.

Stefan... You changed the user his password while, I said, change the Adminisitrator password. Let him logout and login again or you monitor his event logs remotely and see what happens if you change the Administrator password. rehuff [source attached]
Hi all, Yes, it's true. A new version of rehuff, the tool that losslessly compresses Vorbis files: one that is easy to compile, and that works with newer-than-two-years-ago streams, too! On 1.0 streams, you get about 3% size reduction, and the headers get _much_ smaller (which helps for fast-start network streams). Building it should be easy (you might have to add some -I and -L for

Extension proposal - partly serious
Alright folks, here's the solution. 1) Keep extensions to 3 letters for audio & video. Except for special situations where the user might be doing a codec specific name. Since the official extensions are 3 letters, those can always be used on any 8.3 device. 2) introduce a new extension .OGV for ogg container video. With a strong preference for Xiph only codecs. (If you want 3rd

Samba perms vs. fs perms
The subject's a little misleading really, but I was looking for some clarification of my thoughts... In Windows, one can use both share permissions and NTFS permissions to control access to files. I would normally use share permissions to control a connection (allow/deny), and use NTFS to control access. I would never use share permissions to control access whilst NTFS was capable of
