HTTP encapsulated rsync??
Hi folks, I am hoping someone here can offer some suggestions. Here
is my situation:
I am using rsync over the internet for several hundred clients to
keep them in sync with a master repository of files. The rsync
daemon is listening on port 80, because most of the clients are
behind firewalls that only allow outbound port 80 (and other common
ports). This works fine for most of them

umask for rsync
I have another small feature suggestion, it should not cause such a stir
as the whole "file list" issue (I kind of wish I never said anything
about it :) ).
What about adding a "UMASK" setting to rsync (for use on the command
line and/or perhaps rsyncd.conf)? I realize that it may be a
problem/conflict with -p, but I think it could be a useful feature.

Escape character for --exclude?
Hi--
Ok. I?ve now run into the next thing I can?t find in man, and this time, I
googled as well:
--exclude /afs/\*
I thought you could just say:
--exclude /afs/* or even --exclude /afs/
To exclude the entire afs directory. Can you explain what the purpose of the
\ and * are here?
Thanks again :)

filelist calculation algoritm
HI all,
efficiency question for VERY low bandwith networks
Suppose I know the list of files that are changed
What is the most efficient way to make rsync sync this list.
Currently I use --include-from --exclude to generate a 'filelist' but I
suspect that client and/or server exchange the list of files in the module to
be synced. this traffic can be avoided since the include-from

Liveice & Icecast...help
I'm running FreeBSD 4.2. I downloaded and installed Icecast 1.3.10,
Liveice, mpg123, and Lame. I know the Icecast streamer is working because I
can feed it from WinAMP on my PC and listen to the stream somewhere else and
it sounds fine. I know liveice is working too because Icecast shows that it
connects and is sending audio to it. However when I listen to the stream on
my PC with WinAMP

Problem preserving user/group names on AIX, rsync 2.6.2
I am having a bit of a problem with rsync 2.6.2 on AIX and I was
wondering if this might just be the expected behavior.
When using the -o and -g flags, the user and group names are NOT
preserved on the receiving side, however, the UIDs/GIDs are preserved.
I checked the OLDNEWS file and bugzilla, but could not find any
reference to a problem like this.
Vitals:

Liveice & Icecast...help
How do I change the record volume. I am doing all this from the console, no
GUI. I have not seen anything in any of the config files to set the record
volume.

[LLVMdev] PowerPC codegen experts looking for challenges?
Hi all,
at my paid job I am pushing the Clang/LLVM combo into evaluation (we
currently use a gcc3.4 generation toolchain). Since we produce for the
embedded domain we need a reliable
host (i.e. simulation i686) / target (PPC) dual setup. To this end I
almost succeeded grinding through our large(ish) codebase but found
some PPC snags.
I filed these bugs, complete with repro IR code:

Samba-3.0.1pre1 and LDAP
Hiya,
I have recently upgrade samba to 3.0.1pre1 from alpha3-19. The upgrade went well with no real problems, except .....
I have noticed today that the load on the LDAP server is extremely high. CPU usage on slapd is anywhere between 10%-80%. At one point to day everything came to a grinding halt. The only difference between I can think of is the samba upgrade. This is with an average load of

Disable window scaling during kickstart
Hello List,
Due to a problem with CentOS 5 and one of our firewalls I am having to
disable tcp window scaling to stop network connections grinding to a
halt. I am also trying to Kickstart CentOS 5 machines through the
firewall so need to disable window scaling at install time.
I have added to the kickstart file
%pre
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_window_scaling
But the install still hangs

Major RAC slowdown
Hello again. Our production cluster has begun experiencing some vicious slowdowns that may (or may not) be related to the filesystems. When the problem occurs, the load average on the servers jumps up to 30 or higher. Usually one node will climb while the other drops, then they will switch places a few minutes later. At one point, we had one node's load average up over 300. Our site

creating secrets file
I am looking for documentation on creating the secrets file. man -k rsync on
my system doesn't have any reference to how to create a secrets file. Also,
rsync.samba.org didn't seem to have documentation either. Any pointers?

Is there a possibiliy to tell rsync only to copy files less than eg 10Mb
of size?
I'm running a dedicated backup-server, and would like to skip backing up
my downloaded iso-files.
They can bee downloaded again if requeired ;-)

cwRsync : send all output to a file
Hello
I have been using cwRsync on some Windows boxes, backing up to a Linux server.
I have found some issues which files being open and not being copied etc, so I
decided that I would log the output from the rsync command on the Windows
clients so that I can look at them.
On the Windows boxes, I put the rsync command in a batch file and run that
automatically each evening.
However, if I simply

Connection refuse to rsync
Hi,
We use rsync to share data between two remote sites. We are using rsync
after configuration of the rsync.conf file.
I created a module in the file with the relevant entries and
permissions.
The problem is that I get "connection refused ", when I try to run rsync
in the following way:
root@rsync1-mpg:/root# rsync ptsinf01.pt.intel.com::

Win32 port?
Hi
Has anybody ever tried (and most probably failed) to port rsync to Win32?
I know there are versions built with cygwin and there are also other
Windows programs that include the rsync algorithm. But neither of them
make me really happy. The cygwin version is dead slow on my AMD
3500+ and the Windows programs all make something differently, can't
be scripted and/or have an unusable GUI.

What is the different between these rsync command
I use the following command initially for a Rsync between Windows and Linux
rsync -rvu -e ssh /cygdrive/c//folder user@linux.host.com:/home/public
I was asked for user@linux.host.com's password. I type the password and the
process continue and success.
Then I change the command to (without "-e ssh")
rsync -rvu /cygdrive/c//folder user@linux.host.com:/home/public

PR #927 -- R crash on huge CSV file (PR#928)
I tried to run the same dataset with R-1.2.3 on Linux, compiled from the
source tarball. After 7 hours, it was still grinding away and had not
crashed. I had to kill it. "gtop" was showing it with a real size around 160
MB, same as the peak on the Windows 2000 environment. This is on the same
hardware as the Windows run; my machine is dual-booted Windows 2000 and Red
Hat Linux 7.1. If I
