Problem with rsync from one machine
I am not sure where to begin so I will be as verbose as I can to explain the
problem.
I have 3 servers. Their specs are:
Machine A: Redhat 7.1 kernel 2.4.9-34 openssh 3.1p1-5
Machine B: Redhat 7.3 kernel 2.4.9-31 openssh 3.1p1-5
Machine C: Debian Woody kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4 openssh 3.4p1 rsync 2.5.6
I am running an rsync over ssh from Machine C to Machine B with the
following:
rsync --verbose

Rsync to a Remote NAS
Forgive me if this has been addressed here before. We have a remote office that we need to backup to our NAS. We have a site to site certificate VPN. The remote site has over 51gb that needs to be backed up to our NAS over that VPN. I have tried this command:
rsync --verbose --progress --stats --compress --recursive --times --perms --links --delete /Share/* /

[PATCH][RFC] space saving incrementals
Please CC me directly as i'm not on the list.
I have attached a patch against latest CVS (cvs diff -u)
that adds the following functionality. I can break it up if
you would prefer it in pieces. Comments welcome.
o add compare-perms option
This creates a new inode for a file even if only
the perms have changed. This way if a file
outside of destdir is hardlinked to a dentry

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed
Hi rsync list,
Im trying to use rsync to sync about 23GB over a local LAN.
I use 2.5.6 compiled on SCO OpenServer 5.0.6, this is the command I use:
rsync --verbose --stats --recursive --times --perms --links --delete
eurux02::user2
(I have tried it with and without --compress, as the archive hinted this
may be a problem with -z, but same result)
on the source machine rsync --daemon is running

skipping non-regular file
Hello,
When using rsync 2.4.6 on a linux machine to copy a complete web directory
(rescursively) on an other linux machine on my local network.
For one file I got : skipping non-regular file www/svg_mysql/mysql.sock
This file got the "s" flag set (and I suppose that is the problem).
Anybody can tell me which option should I use to also in the syntax of the
rsync command to copy this

ssh->rsync->newbie
warning: rsync/sysadmin newbie question...
I want to sync the web directory from my production server to my
backup server (through ssh). rsync is working fine, except that it
doesn't seem to authenticate my rsync user which is not a system
user. If I run the command manually, sshd asks for the far end
user's password. If I use that user's password, the files are

Rsync - Copying Every File Every Time
Hello all,
I am using rsync 2.6.3 on RH 9 Linux systems. I think everytime I run the
rsync command, all the files get transferred even if they haven't changed.
Rsync is running as a daemon on my server. Below is the /etc/rsycnd.conf
from my server:
[ftpscript]
path=/home/gab/ftpscript
comment=My FtpScript
list=yes
On my client I use the following command:
/usr/local/bin/rsync

Question on using rsync delete option
Greeting.
I'm so sorry that I launched the previous email by mistake and before I
had a chance to complete it. Here is the summary of my previous
question.
We would like to use rsync to mirror the contents from our internal
staging server ( A) to the external website (B) at our ISP without
delete some existing files on B.
On server B, we have applications that creates temporary lock files

Recursive flag needs fixing 2.4.7pre1
Martin,
Just a minor fix.
Jie,
Try the -r option (or the --recurse) option instead.
It looks like the source changed to this:
options.c: {"recurse", 'r', POPT_ARG_NONE, &recurse},
But the help is still at:
options.c: rprintf(F," -r, --recursive recurse into
directories\n");

Multiset Permutations
Dear R users,
I want to perform an exact permutation of multisets. I have looked at the
coin package, but it doesn't seem to offer what I am looking for. I want to
perform permutations (exact - without duplications) on multisets of scalars
(e.g., the multiset 0,0,1,2,2). I want to output all the possible
permutations into a data frame so that each multiset permutation occupies a
row (or

delete fails to delete everything it should like dangling symlinks
I think someone posted this before, but I can't find it in the archives.
I am using rsync to pull down source files to be compiled. The delete
options are used to clear out any old files left over from previous.
Normally this works. I've run into one case where it persistently fails.
Within the directory created during compiling is a symlink to another
directory, also created during
