Rsync File listing
Can someone assist me in using rsync to ssh into a remote server to obtain
the file listing? As it appears I have some files on a remote server that I
need to pull, however there are many files in the remote server directory,
to why I am wanting to only pull a certain (-mtime -1).
Here is what I have so far:
/usr/local/bin/rsync -e ssh -avz --delete --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync

I seem to have found a bug in 5.8p1.
I work remotely, and use three SSH tunnels, two of the form ssh -L
port:host:destport -f -N -q -l remoteuser remotehost, and one of the
form ssh -D port -f -C -q -N -l

Rsync - include only files containing matching string
I have a string, "2012_10_16"; let's call this $YESTERDAY
How can I rsync a file tree from a remote machine to the local one,
including *only* filenames that contain the matching string? I've
read the man page and googled around but can't seem to get the syntax
right. I either end up syncing all the files, or none of them.
Here's how the code looks now (I will remove

Newbie question on Rsync on Solaris
I want to replicate between two Solaris hosts. The source is Solaris 2.6
and the target is Solaris 2.8. Using rsh, the basic program seems fine (not
running in daemon mode), but I have a problem.
The directory tree is about 150,000 files, with about 5 gb of data. I
tar'd the directory and moved it to the other side, but when I run an rsync
against that directory, it still wants to move

Deleting a remote file when deleted locally...
Hello,
I have several individual files in a directory that I want to keep
syncronized. Here's an example:
Server #1 (host):
/tmp/file1
/tmp/file2
Now of course I can run "rsync -a /tmp/file1 remoteuser@remotehost:/tmp"...
But, when I delete /tmp/file1 from the host and try to run this it
complains about /tmp/file1 being non-existant...
Can I force (or using a more elegant

dovcot+offlineimap+gmail: INBOX empty, mail doubled
Hello
I have used for years
offlineimap-6.2.0
dovecot-imapd 1:1.2.9
in Kubuntu 10.04
Together with a imap server of my university. Yesterday we
switched to google, which I know, is not a real imap server.
I have 2 problems and the first I think has to do with
either an old version of offlineimap or a bad configuration file:
- All folders are downloaded+ Gmail[All Mail] so

mount.cifs is not working (smbclient does work), somekind of recursive content in mount-dir
Hi all,
When I try to make a connection to our windows server with smbclient:
smbclient //server/dira/dirb/dirc -U username -W workgroup
Password: *****
I get a working ftp-like connection to our data.
When I try to make the same connection with mount.cifs:
mount.cifs //server/dira/dirb/dirc /mnt/mnt_dir -o user=877790
dom=workgroup
Password: *****
I get a mount to a location which appears

IMAP Migration Tools
Hi,
I am looking for tools to migrate Mails from one IMAP-Server to
another. Until now I have always used imapsync, but it seems very
slow. Even over a 2x10GB/s connection I only get speeds of about
600KiB/s, because the programm always pauses betweeen every single
mail.
Does anyone here have a suggestion for an alternative?
Thanks in advance

I think you miss my meaning. Consider this sequence of events:
* "find" begins and processes dirA and then dirB

deleting remote dirs I no longer want to backup
Hi all,
I have been using rsync to copy multiple dirs, eg:
rsync -aR dira dirb /tmp
Now, I no longer want to copy dirb, and I want it to be removed on the
remote side, and I cannot figure how to achieve this.
I tried:
rsync -aR --exclude=dirb --exclude-deleted dira dirb /tmp
but this has no effect.

trying to get incremental backups working
So I'm trying to write up a short script to do some backups over rsync.
The goal is to have multiple client machines push the backups to the
backup server nightly. The backup server will have a complete copy of the
selected directories as well as revisions for the last 7 days.
Here is the brief script I have. Btw if you're wondering about all the
variables, I eventually want to set it to

--delete and explicitly listed files
It is my understanding after reading all manuals and postings that
--delete only works, when rsync is doing recursive dir-to-dir
synchronization. Like in the following example
local host:
/dir/dira
/dir/dirb
/dir/dirb/file2
remote host:
/dir/dira
/dir/dira/file1
/dir/dirb
/dir/dirb/file2
If we do [CASE 1]
rsync -rR -v --delete /dir/dira /dir/dirb remote:/
we have it right

Looking for C8 AMD help
I'm migrating from C7 to C8.? I'm currently using autofs, but alas
autofs has been dropped in C8 for the AMD automounter.
I have some very ancient knowledge of AMD, I used it when it was first
introduced many years ago on Solaris and moved to Sun's automounter when
it was introduced.
So now it's back to square one.
I used automount2amd to convert one of my existing maps,

Cannot use \\hostname\dir in Windows2000 client's windows explore r
Hello,
I am using samba ver 2.0.7 and the samba is running on a HPUX OS10.20
machine. On win95,98 NT and even WinXP, i can simply type \\host1\dirA to
view the list of files in shared directories but for Win2000, will get a
prompt that Windows cannot find the path....
But the user already have and can access a drive mapped to the same dirA on
the host1 via the netlogon script.
