''lowest common denominator'' cpuid feature set
I want to be able to test live migration... I have an intel box and an amd box, so live migration between them won''t ''just work''. From what I''ve read though, I should be able to use cpuid to turn off all the cpu features which might be different between them. Is this do-able? I''m willing to accept any resulting loss of performance etc. James

Changed attributes for a file in destination that is hard linked get propagated to --link-dest directories
Folks, Thinking again about the issue of changed attributes for a file in source that is identical in content to a file in destination that is hard linked get propagated to the --link-dest directories I would like to suggest a new flag, (perhaps called something like --preserve-linked-attributes), to allow callers to get the behaviour that is needed to allow the use of recycled

rsync --dry-run --link-dest problem
I am trying to use rsync for making snapshots, sharing hardlinks at the destination using the --link-dest option. In conjunction with this, I would like for --dry-run to report some reliable-ish number for how much space it is going to consume at the destination so that I can arrange to free such space prior the launching rsync "for effect". Right now, that isn't working: #

Gutsy Xen 3.1 2.6.22-9-xen network-bridge problem
Hi, I have a strange problem with my networking setup. I read all forums around the world where people had similar problems, but couldn''t find a solution. I have an Attansic L1 gigeth chip on my mainboard. This chip works OK in stock Ubuntu Gutsy (development) 2.6.22-9-generic kernel. When I boot into Xen, and after the bridge is created, the network stops working. Some info: - If I

I have Storage-SAN of HDS(AMS500), and I want to do striping on luns from the storage. I don''t want any raid-5(because I have one on the disks in the HDS storage). I only want to do strip on 2 luns(25GB each) that cames from different controllers and deffrent fiber channel port(dual HBA). I test the preformance by writing 512MB in to the zfs, with 2 luns striped(each lun from diffrent

Help debugging an issue with --fuzzy --fuzzy and --link-dest
I've identified a situation where the combination of --fuzzy --fuzzy (yes: two of them) and --link-dest is not behaving as I'd expect. I'm first wondering if my expectation is wrong. Assuming that it is not, then I'm wondering how best to figure out the problem. The double use of --fuzzy is based upon https://bugzilla.samba.org/ show_bug.cgi?id=4056 which should be present on

sudo / --link-dest combination problem.
Hi, using the attached script to implement an incremental rotating backup of my home directory works fine if I run it myself, however if it is run as root the -- link-dest fails and all files are recreated rather than linked to. Can someone explain the problem to me? I'm using rsync version 2.6.5 on Darwin Kernel Version 8.1.0 (OS X Tiger) Thanks, Simon.

Link-dest thinks file is newly created, but it isn't
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 If it seeing the files as new then I agree that stat won't help. It might have explained some other itemize output. Since it is seeing the files as new then they must not be where it is looking. Meaning that your link-dest parameter must not be appropriate for your target. link-dest doesn't seem to work properly on MacOSX
I have been trying to use rsyncx to generate a script for rotating backups but it seems to me that the --link-dest option doesn't work properly in my configuration. Instead of creating hard links for all unchanged files it seems that rsync copies everything, as if --link-dest hasn't been specificed. Can somebody clarify what's going on? My script is ptovided below: #rotating backup

Slow Print Dialogue Box
I have a Question I am running Samba 3.10 on Debian with OpenLdap Backend as a Print Server to XP Client Machines without SP2. When printing from Microsoft Word it takes 10 -15 sec. for the Dialogue box to come up. However, in troubleshooting this problem i found that if i edit the smb.conf and add my user account to the admin user under the [Global] Section. The problem goes away. Does

Link-dest thinks file is newly created, but it isn't
Hi: I've been using rsync for a couple years now. Unfortunately, I've made some changes on both ends, so it's unclear what could be the culprit. I make extensive use of --link-dest to provide a cheap "Time Machine"-like backup for a Windows machine.
