rsync 2.5.7 link-dest seems broken
Hi --
I'm experiencing problems when using rsync between two different machines.
Details follows:
Both machines are running 2.4.23, rsync versions on both are identically
configured versions of 2.5.7:

Rsync 2.5.7 --delete not working!!!
I am having a problem with rsync not deleting files on the destination that
no longer exist on the source. The command I am using is: rsync -vaz
--delete /bantemp/* backenp650:/bantemp
Once the two trees are in sync, if I add a file to the source, run rsync
again, it will copy over the one new file. If I delete the file on the
source, run rsync, the file still exists on the destination. I

IPv6 literal addresses on command line
Hello all,
Can anyone give me a hint on how to specify an IPv6 address in an
rsync address literal - the colon character is already used to
seperate the host name from the remote directory AFAICT... I get, e.g.
rsync -Cavb 3ffe:502:420:120::2:/home/cam/dev/proj
3ffe: Unknown host
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes read so far)

Strange behaviour rsync pull from sun to ppc linux, Integer overflow - attempted 64 bit offset
Hi,
I am running rsync on an embedded linux (ppc) like this:

Is cp then mv the default?
Hi,
I noticed there is an "-inplace" option on rsync web site's man page. So
this seems to mean "copy then move" is the default behavior. Has this
been the default all the time?
I am running a pretty old version, see below, and I need to have the
"copy then move" feature to ensure partial files are not accessed while
they are being updated.

bug report: errors in file transfer
Hi!
I just encountered a serious problem with rsync.
I used rsync to copy a big directory between two computers. The source
machine was a sun, the destination was a linux box. The destination
directory did not exist before the copy started.
I used the following command to copy the directory over:
rsync -aSz source_machine:projects/ projects2
because I was somewhat paranoid, I checked if all

Lower-case filenames on receiver side
Hi everybody,
i've been using rsync for quite some time to sync files between my
laptop and my desktop
for example i use the following to backup the music library (from Mac
to Linux)
> rsync -rvzu --exclude=.DS_Store --delete --exclude 'Podcasts/*'
> $LOCAL_MUSI $REMOTE_MUSIC >> $LOGFILE
An odd thing i always noticed is that some files were always copied,

Large File Support on AIX 4.3.3
I've been trying to get rsync to work on AIX 4.3.3 with files > 2GB. I've looked through the archives and saw reference to this, etc. on HPUX but have not been able to come across a solution for AIX. I've tried compiling with the following flags without luck:
"-D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64"
There error I'm getting is as follows (when hitting the 2GB

timeout error in rsync-2.5.5
Dear all,
I've been trying to track down a problem with timeouts when pulling data from
an rsync daemon and I have now run out of any useful ideas.
The problem manifests itself when I try to transfer a large directory tree
on a slow client machine. What happens then is that the client rsync process
successfully receives the list of files from the server, then begins checking
the local

installing rsync-3-0-5 on a Mac
Hi -
is "rsync --version" reporting the wrong version number, or am I to
stupid to properly install rsync-3-0-5 on a Mac?
Here is what I did:
download and extract rsync-3-0-5 (btw: why is there an extra patches
folder?)
in Terminal I ran: ./configure, make, sudo make install
There was no error message, and the old /usr/local/bin/rsync was
replaced.
When I now issue "rsync

Some files always copied to W2K system
I am copying from a rsync --daemon
(have tried from both W2K/cygwin & Linux daemons) to a W2K machine.
Some files get copied every time even though they haven't been touched
since the last copy. I have experimented and deturmined that the file
size seems to be important. If the file is between 926 & 933 bytes
long it will always be copied!! Other sizes and possibly other aspects of

bad hardlinks with rsync
Hi List
I've experienced some problems with rsync. I'm backuping a complete
machine's rootdirectory. After completion I see in the log of the
output, that rsync links some files which are surely *not* the same
on the source System. Or well, it says, that it makes links, using
the filename1 => filename2 notation. On the source System this files
are not the same and some files are
