winbind and local groups
Hello,
I got a Samba setup with an samba server being part of a Windows Domain,
which is working great. I can authenticate using all domain users and so
on without any problem.
Now I added a local group named "rai-additional" to my samba system and
added a domain user to that group (using DOMAIN+username).
"getent passwd DOMAIN+username" the domain groups and

*****SPAM***** The folder 'Inbox' cannot contain items. Namespace problems
Several attempts to support both Mac and PCs keep failing.
In my latest attempt I used the following settings:
#courier-imap compatibility/Thunderbird
namespace private {
separator = .
prefix = INBOX.
inbox = yes
}
For MAC OS Mail.app
namespace private {
separator = /
prefix = INBOX/
inbox = no
hidden= yes
}
This last attempt was based on the suggestion of Timo Sirainen,

Am not able to create a XenU Domain forFedoraCore 4
Greetings and Happy Holiday Season:
I filed an open issue with Fedora installer and rpm because of the same error. I was suggested to look in the xend-debug.log for detailed logs on the problem.
This is enabled in
nano /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp
by adding the following lines
(logfile /var/log/xend.log.debug)
(loglevel DEBUG)
then removing the logs
rm -f /var/log/xend.log

Cluster Locking
I have been running a Samba cluster in active/passive mode using Linux
HA (http://www.linux-ha.org) for several years. With the release of the
GFS filesystem, I was hoping to begin running the servers as an
active/active pair with transparent failover. In my test environment, I
have two computers running Fedora Core 4 attached directly to a SCSI
disk array formatted with GFS. I have

actually, I can confirm now that gs AFPL 8.53 is the "culprit" here on #2,
copied below again (though it is not a bug but a feature, albeit one you
need to know about.) the -dSAFER switch, which appears in later versions of
AFPL gs, not only eliminates renamefile and deletefile (manpage), but
seemingly also allows only fonts in the GS_LIB path to be used

font inclusions in pdf files
I am stumbling into external font issues here and there. I presume using
external lucida fonts is fairly rare, so I am more likely to stumble onto
issues here. (of course, I often think I have stumbled onto bugs/features
that are not.) So, I hope I am not imposing by reporting the following.
[1] can R please not include fonts that it is not using?

Random forests
Dear all,
I would like to use a tree regression method to analyze my dataset. I
am interested in the fact that random forests creates in-bag and
out-of-bag datasets, but I also need an estimate of support for each
split. That seems hard to do in random forests since each tree is
grown using a subset of the predictor variables.
I was thinking of setting mtry = number of predictor variables,

Backup of the 5 last revisions of files
Hallo!
I am running rsync-2.6.2-1.fc2.0 on fedora 2 server. I use incremental
backup with rsync, and I have 7 folders that are rotated on a daily basis.
At the moment I run backup only one time each day.
/home-area on my server uses 18G, and all the 7 backups together fill up
19G on my usb-disk, so I think my script works okay. It looks like this:
rsync -verbose -progres -a

Can't access some files
OS running Samba: FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE amd64
OS accessing Samba: Windows XP SP2
Samba version: samba-3.0.20,1
This is a really frustrating problem. I've been
dealing with it for a while now, but I recently
upgraded to 3.0.20 in hopes that it would fix it...
and it made it worse.
So first, here is where I expect the problem comes
from. I've got a 500GB array on the FreeBSD box

random forests for R
Hi all,
There is now a package available on CRAN that provides an R interface to Leo
Breiman's random forest classifier.
Basically, random forest does the following:
1. Select ntree, the number of trees to grow, and mtry, a number no larger
than number of variables.
2. For i = 1 to ntree:
3. Draw a bootstrap sample from the data. Call those not in the bootstrap
sample the

restoring incremental backups
Hi,
I'm using rsync to make incremental backups, which appears to work fine.
I use a script quite similar to the first one on
http://rsync.samba.org/examples.html (incremental 7 day to remote host).
However, I can't seem to find a nice way to restore a backup other than
the current backup.
Assuming the following situation:
current - made today, contains up-to-date versions of all files

Dear List,
I am looking to calculate two things from my data frame and was after some advice. For the example below i want to know.
1. How many unique Orders/Families and Genera there are per eco-name
2. How many incidences are there for each Order/Family and Genus there are per eco-region
I have 650 econame.
I.e for Biak-Numfoor rain forests there are 2 orders, 2 families and two genera.

backup system files (and permissions) over ssh
how do you backup system files like /etc/ over ssh to another machine
and keep permissions the same on the remote backup location ?
i tried using -a flag, but because i'm connecting through ssh i'm not using Rsync module on the remote computer and therefore i cant write files as root so -a flag is not working.
all the files are being written with owner SSH_USER and group SSH_USER_GROUP

creating a list of lists
Hello,
I'm trying to create a series of randomForest objects, basically in a
loop like this:
forests <- list();
for (level in 1:10) {
# do some other things here
# create a random forest
forest <- randomForest(
x = x.level,
y = z.level,
ntree = trees
);
forests <- c(forests, forest);
}
But instead of creating a list of 10 forests, this creates a list
