Writing to a vfat partition problem
Hi all,
I have a problem where when I try to write to a 'vfat' partition (in

Message Board Recommendations...
I've been trying several message board software (PHPBB, etc) and haven't
found one that's as feature rich as I'd like. I used to run Ikonboard
but have had some issues with that. Does anyone have a great
recommendation for an awesome message board with loads of features and
is open-source (free)?
Thanks

License on rsync ??
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Noted in the readme that rsync is licensed under GPL, and have some
questions about this.
Reading through a couple different places on the internet, of people
wondering why there are few to no GUI front-ends (are there any good
ones? if so, much of my questions here can be disregarded).
I think I found one project, a PHP-GTK interface, that

Escape character for --exclude?
Hi--
Ok. I?ve now run into the next thing I can?t find in man, and this time, I
googled as well:
--exclude /afs/\*
I thought you could just say:
--exclude /afs/* or even --exclude /afs/
To exclude the entire afs directory. Can you explain what the purpose of the
\ and * are here?
Thanks again :)
All My Best,
Jeffrey

how to mirror only selected directories?
Hi,
I've tried various combinations of --exclude and --include, but I can't
quite get it. What I'd like to do is only mirror certain directories in
a tree. For example, say a directory tree starting at /x contained
under it several directories named "abc". I want to mirror only the
"abc" directories and what's under them and nothing else.

How to use rsync for Ghost or Acronis type backup
Madison,
That sounds like a really nice backup program. I'd like to try your
Beta out if I could. I've use rsync regularly and it would be great
to have a front end.
Thanks.

questions about librsync
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum for questions regarding
librsync, but couldn't find any others.
I'm trying to get librsync working properly on Solaris 2.7 and 2.8 Sparc
servers. The problem is that while librsync appears to compile cleanly, "make
check" fails the sources.test. Does anyone have any insight as to why this
might be? Might I need a specific

Post hoc tests in gam (mgcv)
Hi.
I'm analysing some fish biological traits with a gam in mgcv. After several
tries, I got this model
log(tle) = sexcolor + s(doy, bs = "cc", by = sexcolor) +log(tl)
sexcolor is a factor with 4 levels
doy is "day of year", which is modeled as a smoother
tl is "total length of the fish"
The summary of this models is (only parametric coefficientes):

state of the rsync nation? (revisited 6/2003 from 11/2000)
I'm interested in these very questions (librsync-rsync relationship,
remaining limitations of rsync, active prospects for ground-up rewrites),
Google searches for rsync info have proved a little too vague due to the
programs ubiquity. Much has certainly changed since this was written,
could some people with knowledge in these areas could update martin's
response for the state of rsync,

question about librsync : patch function
Hello everybody,
About librsync, does anyone know how to patch the delta without creating
a new file ?
I used the librsync and it always generates a new file, which is
embarrassing if the file is over 1Gb.
I tried to store the new file in RAM, but it saturates the machine.
Is there a possibility to write in the current file to be synchronized,
although this file is currently being

Problem preserving user/group names on AIX, rsync 2.6.2
I am having a bit of a problem with rsync 2.6.2 on AIX and I was
wondering if this might just be the expected behavior.
When using the -o and -g flags, the user and group names are NOT
preserved on the receiving side, however, the UIDs/GIDs are preserved.
I checked the OLDNEWS file and bugzilla, but could not find any
reference to a problem like this.

trying to understand OSS, GPL, BSD & other licensing model for software distribution.
Hi all,
We are busy developing some software (some is web based, others not)
and I am having a bit of hard time understanding (or rather, choosing)
a license model to work with, We will offer some free software (PHP
based scripts, and even Windows based applications) and for this I'm
sure the GPL, or even LGPL (for the network side?) will work fine.
But, we also need to suppose these

MD4 bug in rsync for lengths = 64 * n
I am the author of BackupPC (http://backuppc.sourceforge.net) and
I am working on adding rsync support to BackupPC.
I am implementing the server-side in perl, and the client will
run vanilla rsync. (BTW, is there the protocol documented? I've
answered all my questions by looking at the source, but it would
be great to check against any docs.)
I started with librsync 0.9.3 and the

Error with adehabitatHR and kernelbb
Dear all,
I'm trying to get a Brownian bridge kernel (kernelbb) for each combination of two consecutive animal locations (see commands below) and put them, with a loop, inside a list. It works well at the beginning but after 42 runs, it appears the following warning :

LGPL relicense port of rsync
Hi,
I am maintaining a port of rsync (https://github.com/perlundq/yajsync)
which is GPL:ed of course. The main purpose of the project is to
provide a Java API library for the rsync protocol. It would
therefore be really nice to be able to use LGPL as the license.
But in order to do so I would first have to get a list of all the
individual contributors to rsync and then be able to contact them

librsync ??
All,
Does anyone know anything about librsync, and where it is currently maintained =
on the web?
It apparently is/was a samba project, but I'm not sure how it relates.
The authors are listed as:
Martin Pool <mbp@samba.org>
Andrew Tridgell <tridge@samba.org>
but I suspect someone else did the 0.9.5.1 update, because only 0.9.5 is =
available on the rproxy site

Release 3 of "rzync" new-protocol test
For anyone who'd like to check out the latest release of my "rzync" [sic]
test release, I've just released a new version. For those that might
not have time to look at the code but could provide some feedback based
on a rough description, I've created the following simple web page:

Here's the tar file of the new

Need help with the rsync library and the communication protocol
Hey,
I'm currently adding rsync to pacman (http://archlinux.org/pacman). A static
version of the program is used for rescue operations. Because of this it
is impossible to use the rsync client programm via an execve call and we
need a version implemented in C.
So I started implementing it. But the rsync source isn't beautiful or structured
- it's just a big hunk of code. I spent
