ACL support in rsync 2.6.6
Hi, Can someone tell me the status of ext3 acl support in rsync? I saw this post from may 2004 which seems to indicate there is a patch. http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2004-May/009466.html But it still appears that 2.6.6 doesn't have any acl support included. Is that true? Does anyone know where to get the latest patch for 2.6.6 if it even exists? Thanks Paul --

rsync --dry-run --link-dest problem
I am trying to use rsync for making snapshots, sharing hardlinks at the destination using the --link-dest option. In conjunction with this, I would like for --dry-run to report some reliable-ish number for how much space it is going to consume at the destination so that I can arrange to free such space prior the launching rsync "for effect". Right now, that isn't working: #

get_local_name
Wayne, I have redone get_local_name again (patch attached), this time to enable rsync to remove a file to make way for a destination directory; this resolves the "surprise" noted in David Tonhofer's diagram 2. I also made it obey --keep-dirlinks when looking for a destination directory and made various rearrangements. Tell me what you think, and if you decide to commit my code,

How to use multiple link-dest directories?
Hi guys, I hope this is not considered a stupid question, but it really seems to be something that needs to be covered with a decent example in the man page. I have looked in every piece of documentation I can think of and have found no answer. So I want to use the multiple link-dest directories feature as of 2.6.4. (I am using 2.6.6) My understanding of how this should work is that I can

[PATCH] Unsnarl missing_below/dry_run logic.
The generator can skip a directory's contents altogether due to --ignore-non-existing, a daemon exclude, or a mkdir failure. On a --dry-run, the generator can also note the missingness of a directory while still scanning its contents. These two scenarios were conflated using a single set of missing_below/missing_dir variables in combination with transient increments in dry_run; this caused

--link-dest and file/dir transfer to remote rsync daemon
Hi NG, I want to do incremental backups to a remote server running rsyncd (because daemonless transfer via ssh often hangs!). In contrast to transfer via ssh (without remote rsyncd) this doesn't seem possible, or do I miss something? Imagine I want to incrementally backup `mydir' to the backup space `backup' on e remote server `alpha' running an rsync daemon. rsyncd on

2.6.9 and 3.0.5 sync error
Dear List, I'm using rsync to sync my data, see below command. And I met this error? I think it might be due to 2.6.9 and 3.0.5 compatible issue. So how to solve the problem? Thanks. rsync -vrtopg --progress --delete --password-file=rsync-password /path/on/pc root@192.168.0.202::destination building file list ... 151804 files to consider rsync: push_dir#1 "/" (in maps) failed:

Write-only option
Hi! I am doing backups from a number of machines to an rsync server. For some time I was trying to come up with a solution, which would prevent users from peeking at each other's files, which are backed up. Finally, I've hacked rsync, introducing a new option "write only" for rsyncd.conf. When set to true, this option forbids the transfers from server to the client, thus solving

Rsync problem
All I am having a problem with rsyncing 2 directories in my network. Here is the situation: 1. I have a directory tree on the 1 server say: SOURCE 2. I have to rsync this directory tree on a backup server, say: Backup 3. This is a huge tree (about 8-9 GB) that grows by about 2-3 % a day. 4. What I did is... I gzipped the tree on a HD and restored it on the backup server 5. The file permissions
