mtree vs tripwire
Hi all.
This might seem really naive, but can mtree be used effectively as
a native-to-core-OS tripwire equivalent? Would it be as efficient in
terms of time-to-run and resource requirements?
What sort of pitfalls should I be aware of?
Has anyone here done this? If so, would you care to share your
scripts/techniques?
Thanks,
Dave

Why Ruby on Rails
Our company is mainly made up off application developers but we have a
lot of web work coming up so we are deciding which route to take at the
moment. We initially identfied ASP.NET 2.0 with the ATLAS AJAX
framework because of the RAD features, easy to learn etc.
I had read some stuff on ROR and our Boss who is open minded allowed me
to create a sample application with ROR. He was impressed

samba & acl & xfs
Hi all, again.
I am trying to set up samba with acl-support on a debian woody (final) box.
The kernel has got XFS-support and getfacl and setfacl are working fine since
I have built the acl-debian packages from SGI's acl-sources. Also attr-dev, acl-dev
and the appropriate kernel-headers are installed. The acl.h can be found in /usr/include/sys/.
But all my efforts trying to implement xfs

Error running an ActiveX control on IE6
Hi
I'm trying to get an ActiveX running in IE6. The ActiveX is from a surveillance DVR which require an ActiveX viewer.
I've installed IE6, VC6run, WMP9 using winetricks.
I have installed manually the activex (putting files in system32 and register ocx manually)
The ActiveX starts, in fact I can see the interface of activex, but instead of loading the streaming video I get an error

Code Page Changes
I'm running PL/SQL Developer under Wine in order to do development work with an Oracle database. I created a procedure that, at one point, used extended characters (things like ??? and so on). When that was compiled, however, all those characters were stored simply as question marks, which is Oracle's way of telling you that there is a code page mismatch (i.e., that your client has

Winbind timeouts/hangs(?)
Hello group,
I'm hitting a problem where group resolution through winbind seems to
time out sometimes, which in turn causes invalid group information to
propagate to Cronjob users or similar. The profiling information that
winbind spits out is the following:

issue with "strange" characters (locale settings)
WinXP-x32, R-21.13.0
Dear list,
I have a problem that (I think) relates to the interaction between Windows
and R.
I am trying to scrape a table with data on the Hawai'ian Islands, This is my
code:
library(XML)
u <- "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii"
tables <- readHTMLTable(u)
Islands <- tables[[5]]
The output is (first set of columns):

Answering the Hydrogen Audio thread
Take a look at how the Opus Tools package handles it. So far as I
remember, it requires minimal changes to the file(s) containing
references to the main entry point and to fopen. It imports the command
line arguments as wchar_t and converts them to UTF-8, and has
replacement functions for fopen and some text output that accept UTF-8
instead of ANSI. I think it automatically kicks in on definition

Thank you. The line of code you give certainly resolves several of the
issues.
I didn't realize that font support is such a tough matter to realize. Let me
express my gratitude to those who provide this for us in R.
