Slow pkginstalls due to long door_calls to nscd
Hi all,
I am installing a zone onto two different V445s running S10U4 and the
zones are taking hours to install (about 1000 packages), that is, the
problem is identical on both systems. A bit of trussing and dtracing has
shown that the pkginstalls being run by the zoneadm install are making
door_call calls to nscd that are taking very long, so far observed to be
5 to 40 seconds, but always in

Dtrace probes for voluntary and involuntary context switches
Hi,
I am profiling some workloads for the voluntary and involuntary context switches. I am interested in finding out the reasons causing these two types of context switches. As far as I understand, involuntary context switch happens on expiration of time slice or when a higher priority process comes in. While the voluntary switch generally happens when a process is waiting for I/O etc.
So to

Is ''publish'' proxy arp still broken ?
Can''t get proxy arp with arp -s <IPaddr> <MACaddr> pub
to work with a 2.4 kernel. I see some evidence in the archive
that this was broken in the 2.0.x timeframe and never fixed.
Anyone know for sure if it''s broken or working ?

Logon script
Hey everybody;
I've got a problem with a Windows 98 machine on my network. I use Samba as a
storage server with a folder for every user. To create network drives I use
a script that will be copied to the client and then executed whenever a
machine logs on to the domain.
So far everything works fine. The script is being executed on logon.
However, the network drive can never be found

delete-delay vs. delete-after in 3.0.2 (and possible bug)
Hello
I've noticed today, that --delete-delay introduced in 3.0.2 is not
functionally equivalent of --delete-after (I was under impression it
should work this way).
Looking at following example:
/src
/src/testfile
/src/.rf
/dst
/dst/testfile
.rf consists of following lines:
S, .rf
H, *
P, testfile
rsync -aHx --delete-after --filter="dir-merge, .rf" /src/ /dst/
...will

Firewalling certain IP ranges
Hi,
I have a linux router which is connected to a local network and the internet (eth0 and eth1). My
local network (eth0) consists of two IP ranges, which are assigned by a DHCP server on my router -
10.0.0.2-10.0.0.19 for trusted clients (MAC addresses are known) and 10.0.0.20-10.0.0.254 for
untrusted clients (MAC addresses are not known). These two ranges share the same physical network,

Oracle 9.2.0.6 on Solaris 10
How can I tell if this is normal behaviour? Oracle imports are horribly slow, an order of magnitude slower than on the same hardware with a slower disk array and Solaris 9. What I can look for to see where the problem lies?
The server is 99% idle right now, with one database running. Each sample is about 5 seconds. I''ve tried setting kernel parameters despite the docs saying that

Cloning CentOS workstations
I manage a set of CentOS operations workstations which are all clones of each
other (3 "live" and 1 "spare" kept powered down); each has a single drive with
four partitions (/boot, /, /home, swap). I've already set up cron'd rsync jobs
to copy the operations accounts between the workstations on a daily basis,
so that when one fails, it is a simple, quick process to swap

[PATCH] Fix oom_adj on Linux after sshd reload
Currently, on linux sshd attempts to remove itself from the influence of
oom-killer by modifying the oom_adj parameter for itself in proc to -17.
This is controlled via two functions; oom_adjust_setup() and
oom_adjust_restore().
Setup saves the old score (typically zero on initialization) and sets sshd
to -17 whilst oom_adjust_restore places the saved value from initialization
back into the

bad hardlinks with rsync
Hi List
I've experienced some problems with rsync. I'm backuping a complete
machine's rootdirectory. After completion I see in the log of the
output, that rsync links some files which are surely *not* the same
on the source System. Or well, it says, that it makes links, using
the filename1 => filename2 notation. On the source System this files
are not the same and some files are

re driver trobles (RELENG_5)
Dear colleagues,
experimenting with new amd64-based router we found strange re(4) behaviour
when working in autoselect media mode:
whenever promisc mode turned on, renegotiating occurs, leading to 3 to 45
(depending on STP settings on the switch) network unavailability.
Moreover, some other re(4) setting changes seem to disturb link state
unneededly (such as ifconfig re0 -vlanhwtag)

BUG: --link-dest may follow symlinks and failure to hard link a non-regular file is fatal
Hi,
following the instructions on https://bugzilla.samba.org/createaccount-save.html, I've applied for a bugzilla account at bugzilla-maintenance at samba.org but didn't receive a reply, so I report through this list.
With --link-dest the search for a candidate to link from, follows symlinks in directory path components, when the path element is a directory in the source tree but a

Inno setup script request
Dear all,
I am a public resaerch engineer in marseille (France) and I am currently developping a free software for high throughput experiments in biology using mainly R (bioconductor). This project is almost at a finalisation stage and I would like to build an installshield using innosetup for the windows version of my software. The ideal case would be to also include the required 2.6
