Samba 2.2.12 Hardware Migration Policy Issue Win2K
Hello All, I had been successfully running Samba 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 4.7 box for a couple years using roaming profiles. The box was functioning as PDC. The hardware was getting old; I needed to migrate to a new server. So, I built a FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE box on some relatively modern hardware and installed Samba 2.2.12. I copied the master.passwd file to the new box, did the pwd_mkdb, also copied

using rsync for incremental raw disk backup?
I use off-site replication (rsync), but having backups on tape is also important The tape backup software offers a very thorough incremental and differential backup solution for UNIX filesystems, but for Windows filesystems that must be recoverable to a bootable state, I feel that only raw filesystem dumps are trustworthy. One strategy that comes to mind: a) rsync the raw device (an LVM2 volume

backup and restore of ZFS root disk using DVD driveand DAT tape drive
Dear all, given a DVD drive and DAT Tape Drive, and using Solaris 10 U7 (5/09), how can we plan for a total backup of ZFS root disk and procedure to recover that? Previously using UFS, we just need to use boot from Solaris OS DVD media, also using ufsdump, ufsrestore and installboot. Anybody can point me on how to achieve the same thing when the whole system disk are busted? Thanks in

Printing only works sometimes
I posted the message below, on the gmane.network.samba.general newsgroup some days ago, and haven't got any replies yet. If anyone has any suggestions as to what can be done, please let me know. I have been trying to use Samba 2.2.6 to print from two SCO Openserver 5.0.7 servers (VDOHOM & VDOHOM2, IP addresses 192.168.1.121 & 192.168.1.122) on a WAN consisting of networks

Tape backup question.
Hello, I want to backup my PE2800 on tape but I'm not sure how to do this. My PE2800 has a RAID5 setup with 2 72GB SCSI disks and a Seagate DAT-2 72GB internal tape-streamer and I'm running Centos 4.3 with the latest yum updates. I'm not sure if this tape-streamer is recognised by the OS properly because it doesn't show up along with my DVD/floppy I also recieved with the

SV: using samba to backup NT to unix tape drive ?
Hi! My suggestion: Use Amanda (www.amanda.org, cd /usr/ports/misc/amanda24 && make install with FreeBSD). It has support for smbtar. Haven't tried it myself, but I hear it's working fine. (I think I have seen a patch for gnu tar, that fixes the path length limit. I'm sure, though...) /Palle -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Fr?n: Tony Jones <tony@rtd.com> Till:

Redhat 7.2 using Onstream tape backup
I'm having trouble geting an Onstream DI30 tape drive to work on Redhat 7.2. The web site says kernel 2.4.x doesn't need a driver patch, but 2.2.x does. It shows how to install the patch, but doesn't say anything about getting it to work on 2.4.x, except that it works. I see it at bootup, but not when I try to use it. Please help, Stephen -------------- next part -------------- A

can some people point to me to good tape backup and software...
Hi all, Being recently new to Samba. I want to know what some of you consider a really good tape backup. And, what software to run it with. I want to be able to offer customers daily full backups that the restores will work well with Samba. My understanding is smbtar only uses tar. Is there something even web based I can use. (for the guy just getting out to new small networks..and not to
