Problem with incremental backup - copies instead of hard links
Hi there, I'm using this version of rsync: localhost:~ mzehetle$ /usr/local/bin/rsync --version rsync version 2.6.0 protocol version 27 Copyright (C) 1996-2004 by Andrew Tridgell and others HFS+ filesystem support for OSX (C)2004 Kevin A. For example: source-dir to dest-dir a full backup. incremental of sources-dir and differential of backup-dir in `date +%m%h%y` Then, i should have a full backup in the dest-dir and incremental+diferential backup in every $DATE directory. Any ideas? I try

Can a DC have 2 IP addresses
Yes, A DC can have 2 IP... bu when doing classic-upgrade or provision... only one IP must be active. prevent simultaneous copies?
Would it be worthwhile to have an option to check for the presence of the temporary dot file in the target directory and to warn the user that the file is already being transfered? Something like: --skip-in-progress-files ? We usually transfer files via a cron job, but sometimes impatient people try to push stuff out, not knowing the file is already being copied, and disk space and

incremental plots with pdf and dev.copy
Hi, I am trying to produce incremental plots directly using the pdf device. I mean that I want to produce a plot, save it in a pdf file, then add details and save the new plot in a new file, and so on. Before I used to do this with x11, by just adding graphics to a plot and then using dev.copy2eps at the right times for each eps figure. Now I want to do this in batch mode and the x11 device is not

Ogg Vorbis tags and iTunes plugin
I started ripping my disks into Ogg Vorbis format recently. When I try to listen to them under iTunes, it all works OK (I know of the various limitations but they currently don't affect me and I mostly use GNU/Linux anyway), except that iTunes only finds the song title: no artist name, no album name :-( Is that yet another known limitation (I haven't seen it mentioned yet), or am I maybe

[paul@mail.me.maar.nu: Building vorbis-tools without libao]
Again, Hi All, Thanks for your replies. I probably should've mentioned that I'm not subscribed to the list but I found your answers on the archives. I just wanted to go on record and mention that I do in fact have all the original CD's and that by re-encoding I meant repeating the entire process of ripping the original CD's (with cdparanoia (of course ;)) and then encoding them

[PATCH]: auth.c (pwcopy): Copy pw_gecos field when build for Cygwin
Hi, the attached patch is very important for Cygwin. I don't know how I could have missed that for months now :-( I hope this can be included in 2.5.1p2. The pw_gecos field in Cygwin's /etc/passwd contains Windows specific authentication informations which let NT domain users logon to a machine without the need to inform the logon server (sshd in our case) about the name of the NT

CD Burner that supports .ogg files?
Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to the world of Vorbis, but after hearing the sound comparisons I was sold. I've recently begun a massive undertaking of ripping all my CD's to hard disk in preparation for the home theater PC that I'm in the process of building. I am a couple of hundred CD's into this and I came across one small problem, I can't find any CD burning software

MP3 to OGG translation?
Hello. I'm new to the list, and I've dutifully, like the good newbie (in this list anyway) that I am, have searched through the archives, but I can find no answer to my question. SO...is there, or can there be, a viable MP3 to OGG translator, so that those of us with gigabytes of MP3's (legalities aside) can translate them to OGGs? I don't mind ripping any NEW Cd's that

rsync *Still* Copying All Files?
Hi, all. This is my first post to the list, so please forgive me if this is an old issue. I scoured the mailing list archives by hand and could find no mention of it, and the official FAQ-o-matic mentions it, but doesn't offer a fix that works for me. I've set up an rsync daemon on Windows NT4 by installing the latest cygwin. Using the cygwin1.dll and rsync.exe, I'm able to connect

More on CD anti-copying techniques
Some CDs will include all the songs encoded with Windows Media, removing the the need for ripping. Sounds like it has the potential to stomp out competition from other formats such as MP3 & OGG. http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1005-201-7320279-0.html --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a

Merely Opening Excel Files Increments Last-Modification date on Samba Shares
Hello Everyone! Perhaps some of you have some advice for dealing with this problem? I've done quite a bit of googling on this one, but I can't find anything useful. Ever since I started using Samba as PDC, I have had this problem: when users merely open MS-Excel files on samba shares, the file's Last-Modification date is incremented to the current time. I have seen similar

Help with full and incremental dumps
I have an Overland Arcvault 12 library with a full LTO3 magazine of 400/800 GB tapes. It is connected directly to the fileserver via a SCSI card/cable. The two main directories I want to back up are /var/log, which is on one filesystem, and /home, which is on another. There are _currently_ no databases to worry about, but there may be active users logged in and active jobs running.
