An extended Hodgkin-Huxley model that doesn't want to work.
Hi All
I have been struggling with this model for some time now and I just can't
get it to work correctly. The messages I get when running the code is:
DLSODA- Warning..Internal T (=R1) and H (=R2) are
such that in the machine, T + H = T on the next step
(H = step size). Solver will continue anyway.
In above message, R =

Validating an ActiveRecord object and its has_many :through associations
Considering an object with several has_many :through => associations,
what is the ''best'' way to handle validations?
As an example:
class Student < ActiveRecord::Base
# some attrbutes like
# :name
# :grade
# relationships
has_many :students_assignment, :dependent => :destroy
has_many :assignments, :through => :students_assignment

Rsync with non-english characters in filenames?
Hi,
I am trying to use rsync to migrate homefolders from one server to
another. For this I use:
> rsync --rsh="ssh -l root" -vaz beaucent.ling.umu.se:/export/home/ .
Which works fine until I get to some files where the user has,
unfortunatelly, used a non-ascii character in the file name:

Thanks

I am having problems with

The dangers of static buffers in rsync code
I have been trying for quite a while now to understand why is the
flist.c:f_name() function implemented using static buffers. Anyone care to
comment?
The immediate problem is that any call to f_name overrides the previous
content (well, obvious). This, combined with the fact that several
function calls are made with the result of f_name(file) results in
problems handling hardlinks - and

Wrong charset on NTFS volumes (ext4 works fine)

I've a little problem with samba 3.6.6 and NTFS volume. I've mounted an
USB drive in NTFS format on my server, and all works fine (characters
are OK, i can create folders with accents or ? like "cami?n",
"mu?eca"...), but when i try to share that drive through samba, all
special characters look wrong and i can't

Handful of files are giving me error 13, directory executable bit issue
I am getting a handful of these errors, and I am not sure why. The
directories in question have rights like this:
drw-r--r-- 2 osstbb osstbb 42 2008-05-02 00:04 12981826/
As root, why would it matter if it has executability? I can read it
just fine on the server.
Or is it an issue when it tries to create it on the -client- ? Is
there a way to fix this? I can chmod 0755 the dirs on the server

Getting transfer error lists
Hello again,
Is there a reliable way I can parse the errors or get a direct list that rsync produces while transferring? I'm writing a GUI and the only way to get errors has been using regular expressions (all lines starting with "rsync:" for one) but it's not always reliable because I don't know the format of all errors. Also some errors appear to not be fatal but I'm

broken pipe when working on open files (?), MacOS X, 3.0.2/3.0.3pre2
Hello all,
I have trouble to use rsync (tested with 3.0.2 and 3.0.3pre2) on MacOS X
10.3.
Rsync always seems to stop when working on open files (?). Source is my
laptop
hard disk, destination a USB attached external drive.
If I stop Firefox for instance all runs smoothly.
This is how I built rsync:
#!/bin/bash
# VERSION=3.0.2
VERSION=3.0.3pre2
DIR="rsync-$VERSION"

rsyncd.conf;
I have some rsync defined as a server on one of my production systems and
use to to sync out various configuration files for services running on the
box (dhcpd, dns named.conf files & the like). Both ends are Compaq
Alpha/Tru64 5.1 systems running rsync 2.5.5.
I'm having a fit trying to include certain files in specific subdirectories
under the main path; one such example is below:

Hy all,
I'm a new rsync user and my english may be poor.
I try to sync two folders between two machines using ssh and
2.6.9 rsync version on each.
My purpose is to sync only files called "*.lic" in each
subfolders.
On the source machine I want to sync :
/home/dps3/public/Lic/Lic
/home/dps3/public/Lic/Lic2
/home/dps3/public/Lic/Lic3
to
/home/dps3/public/Lic/Lic9

Has anyone seen a error message like the following?

many links (31)
rsync: stat "/home/kmiller/briefcase/1205275" failed: No such file or

As far as I can tell, I am not using any symlinks or hardlinks.

Rsync acl patch 1.113 compilation problems on cygwin
Hi,
Recently, there have been some fundamental achievements regarding
acl-support on the cygwin platform. I thought that it would be convenient to
offer an acl-patch enabled rsync as a part of the cwrsync package (a yet
another minimalist rsync on cygwin solution). I get some compilation errors.
What I did:
- Downloaded acl patch v1.113 from rsync site
- Run commands below In the rsync source

backup to NTFS USB disk
Hello, *
I am setting up a backup on a Linux system with Windows XP workstations. The
backup goes to three alternating usb drives, each of which is NTFS formatted.
The disks should be virtually identical but they do not seem to be.
First, my mount command is this (I edited a bit for brevity)
mount -t ntfs-3g -o locale=nl_NL.iso-8859-1,silent /dev/disk/by-id/usb-DiskA \
/mnt/tmp ||

rsync hangs on select() system call
hello,
trying to understand why a rsync client hangs during a transfer. Hopefully
someone can advise.
client = rsync 3.0.6, server = rsync 3.1.1 , transfer is done to a rsync
module with such a command:
rsync -rtxvvv my_data rsync://test at my.rsync.server/INCOMING/
<rsync://test at rsync.resif.fr/INCOMING_TEST/>
the client starts to transfer data (a few Mb) then hangs, then manually
