Foreground process possible?
So I got my UPS working. I'm trying to get NUT to run under daemontools . upsd and upsmon all seem to stay in the foreground when I add -D to them but upsdrvctl doesn't. Does anyone know if there's a hidden switch or something to make it stay in the foreground? The reason I want to use daemontools is so that if the process crashes, daemontools will just start it right back up

[PATCH] run: Actually use timeout --foreground option (RHBZ#1025269).
The following commit managed to not actually add the --foreground
option to the timeout command, just test for it. Add it this time.

color is not known to server "FOREGROUND"
I asked about this a while back with no response, but now have a bit more information. Still no idea how to fix it.
I am occasionally seeing the above error when running various programs. Originally, I discovered it when running the "display" command from ImageMagick.

RExcel foreground and background server
Dear all,
I have a question regarding background and foreground server in RExcel:
Can somebody explain the main difference between them? As far as I
understood from the RExcel webpage, for both of them one needs rights
for access to Windows registries. The only difference that I can see so
far is that for the installation of the background server, one needs the
R(D)COM package, whereas for the

White Foreground after vesa exit
Hi,
we would like to know if it's possible to change the foreground color after
the exit of the graphic mode.
At this moment, after selecting the boot option it exits the graphic window
and starts loading the kernel in textmode (required). However the textmode
foreground color is currently "white".
is there any way to set this to black instead?
Best regards and thanks

RExcel - foreground server
Hi,
I have a problem using RExcel with a foreground
server: in RExcel menu as well as in the window called
by "set server" the foreground server option is grayed
out. I have installed the rcom package and also tried
to open R and type require(rcom), as explained on
http://sunsite.univie.ac.at/rcom/excel/index.html, but
it does not help.
What am I missing?
Many thanks,
Werner

Cento 7: Color is not known to server (FOREGROUND) [No such file or directory].
I have installed both ImageMagick and GraphicsMagick on this computer.
Using the "display" command (from ImageMagick) to show any image gets me this message:
display: color is not known to server `FOREGROUND': No such file or directory @ error/xwindow.c/XGetPixelPacket/3064.
No image shows up.
Using the "gm display" command (from GraphicsMagick) to show any image gets

Hello,
I would like to use in.tftpd in standalone mode, but without having it
forking off in the background (I'm using inittab) .. can you add a
foreground-option?
Thanks in advance!

Fwd: Client fails to mount with Samba running as daemon. Fine in foreground.
Hi all,
Experiencing a really weird issue on my Samba instance (4.7.5). It is not
allowing users to browse any shares when running as a systemctl daemon, but
it is working fine when running as a foreground service.
Contents of systemctl service unit:
# cat /usr/lib/systemd/system/smb.service
[Unit]
Description=Samba SMB Daemon
After=syslog.target network.target nmb.service winbind.service

suppressing 'download.file' progress window
In Windows, 'download.file' pops up a separate window indicating the progress of
the download (even when 'quiet = TRUE'). This is useful and informative when
downloading a single (large) file. However, when downloading multiple (smaller)
files in sucession, the constant flashing of the progress window can be a little
disorienting (at least for me).
Is there a way to suppress

Patch for systems with no setreuid()
Sorry if I'm duplicating an existing patch, but...
On systems with no seteuid() that have setreuid() there is an
emulation, but if both are lacking (but we do have setresuid()),
nothing is done. The following seems to be right, but I've only got
one machine (running an ancient version of HP-UX) which needs this so
it may not be general:

Progress bar or execution plan for modeling process
Hi,
I often run predictive models on large datasets with multiple
combination of parameter space. I am wondering if there is any way to
quickly check the execution plan, like how much time does it take to
run a model. Here is a more specific example:
I have a set of datasets, S, of size 40000X700. I am fitting some
ensemble models like, boosting, and random forests. I would like find
