make fails on Solaris building include/proto.h
I'm trying to build Samba 3.0.2 or 3.0.2a on a Solaris system (I've tried both Solaris 8 and Solaris 9), and after successfully running configure, the "make" step hangs building proto.h. Checking the process table, the command that is hanging is: nawk -v headername=_PROTO_H_ -f script/mkproto.awk I've tried running this command by hand and it also hangs. I've tried

Can't build 3.0.4 under QNX 6.1.0
I've been trying to build Samba 3.0.4 on QNX 6.1.0. 1. I downloaded the source tarball "samba-latest.tar.gz" from a mirror site. The downloading was done on an MS-Windows system. The tarball was transferred to the QNX box by loading into Emacs on MS-Windows with "M-x find-file-literally" then saving it with Emacs's ftp facility: "C-x C-w

writefd_unbuffered failed to write - Broken pipe
I am using Rsync 2.6.3 , and have tried rsync 2.6.2 also. I am attempting to push about 990G from one machine to another. Whenever I do this, it processes about 1/3 the way through and I receive the following error during the transfer, and it stops. Could this be a problem with it running as a cron job? The command I am using is /usr/local/bin/rsync -acv --stats /data/ server::data Any

[PATCH] Replace mkproto.pl with mkproto.awk
> I can't speak for rsync, but nowadays Perl isn't that rare, that a > dependeny on it for build purpose would matter. IMHO. It might not be rare, but it's certainly less universally available than awk, which is preinstalled on pretty much every unix-like OS out there. > There are many flavours of AWK. Are you sure, that your AWK replacement > runs everwhere? I tested

--remove-sent-files errors with no output
I've been experimenting with the --remove-sent-files option with patchy success. Often --remove-sent-files will not remove the remote files. It copies them locally but "apparently" failed to remove them remotely. After some experimentation I was able to identify one problem as a permission problem. I continue to have problems with rsync not removing some more files. What troubles

--delete-sent-files (AKA --move-files)
Yes, it's time once again to return to the subject of moving files. With the recent changes to the communications code between the receiver and the generator, there is now a non-clogging channel that we can use to signal the sender when a file has been successfully transferred, which allows us delete the original for all transferred files. I have in the past waffled on whether this feature

Why SAM has totally diffent results in R2.1.1 and R2.4.0
Hi, I am using SAM (from siggenes_1.2.11 package) method to select genes from a microarray data set. After installing the latest R2.4.0 on my computer, to my surprise the results are totally different from that calculated using R2.1.1. Even the example code doesn't work the same way under these two versions of R. Does anybody know what is going on? Thanks for any suggestions.

UNIX diff function
Colleagues, (R: 2.13.0; OS X) I often receive sequential datasets in which there are new rows interposed between existing rows. For example: SET1 <- data.frame(list(LETTERS=LETTERS[c(1:4, 6:10)], NUMBERS=c(1:4, 6:10))) SET2 <- data.frame(list(LETTERS=LETTERS[1:10], NUMBERS=1:10)) > SET1 LETTERS NUMBERS 1 A 1 2 B 2 3 C 3 4 D 4 5

Upgrading Samba: minimum requirements for Samba wrt Solaris and gcc
Greetings list! I have a older Samba (v 2.0.7) server compiled with an older gcc (v 2.8.1) running on an older Solaris (v 2.5.1). I would like to upgrade to a newer version of Samba. I have had trouble compiling Samba version 3.0.1 with gcc version 2.8.1 on Solaris 2.5.1: $ ./configure checking for gcc... gcc checking for C compiler default output... cat: cannot open conftest.c configure:

Samba 3.0.0 compilation errors under Unixware 7.1.1
Hello, I tried to build the latest samba source package with errors, it seems there is a problem with the compatibility from the awk script mkbuildoptions.awk. With older version 2.2.8a there was no problem compiling the sources. With 3.0.0 i got the following error: ########################################### ... ... configure: creating ./config.status config.status: creating include/stamp-h

[PATCH] SSE2/SSSE3 optimized version of get_checksum1() for x86-64
What do you base this on? Per https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/x86-Options.html : "For the x86-32 compiler, you must use -march=cpu-type, -msse or -msse2 switches to enable SSE extensions and make this option effective. For the x86-64 compiler, these extensions are enabled by default." That reads to me like we're fine for SSE2. As stated in my comments, SSSE3 support must be

Feature request
Hi, I have a small problem, I want to specify the SSH password via the command line: root at bla:~# ssh -dmypassword user at host I know this is insecure and normally it is better to use key based authentication to log into the remote system without specifying a password, but in my case, this is not a possibility. So would you accept a patch to add a new command line option (suggestion: -d)

Installing mysql with macports
Not sure if this is off topic, but there doesn''t seem to be an obvious place to ask this question. I am trying to use MacPorts to install mysql. Stacked Area chart
I wish to do a stacked area chart to show how relative proportions of species within a stand have changed over time. I know this is simple, but can someone point me to the right function (if it exists). I have not had any luck finding it in the R-help, but maybe I am searching using the wrong keywords. Thanks, Mike Mike Saunders Research Assistant Forest Ecosystem Research Program Department

Trying to compile R on Unix
I have been trying to compile R. I downloaded R-1.0.1.tgz(I think; the original tar file was untarred) and unpacked it with gzip. Now all the R files are in a directory named R-1.0.1. The source files (.c) are in R-1.0.1/src. There are files in R-1.0.1 named 'Makefile.in', 'Makeconf.in', and 'Makeconf'. I followed the instructions in INSTALL by typing

Alec Saunders post about Mashable Telco's
Interesting read in Alec Saunders blog today. http://saunderslog.com/2007/03/01/mashable-telcos/ Thought it may interest some people on this list. As food for thought, why it is that ITSP's haven't come up with more 'interesting' voice applications? When asterisk first became available I thought it was the beginning of seeing really neat applications, think Verzion's

Plotting using image files
This is a strange request, but I want to build a scatterplot using different image files (jpegs, gif, etc.) as the plot symbols. I have thought about setting this up using a very large layout matrix, but I thought someone might have a better approach. Furthermore, is there any way to have R paste an image file into a specific coordinate within a scatterplot? Thanks in advance, Mike Mike
