Root privilege solution
I want to set up RSYNC so it has root privilege on the remote server. I do not want to run rsync through inetd.
I want to be able to limit who can use rsync when the remote end has root privilege. I prefer not to use rsync's
internal user/secrets file. I do want to use SSH as the transport shell. With that in mind, here is what I tried.
I wrapped the rsync single use daemon execution on the

tinc stopped working after restart
Hi.
I'm in desperate need of some good advice.
I have a tinc network with 16 nodes. It's a star topology where all nodes
are connecting to the one node (Node1) that have a static IP.
Node 1 accepts incomming connections
Node 2 through 16 connects to Node1
One of the nodes (Node5) stopped working a while ago (2 - 3 weeks or so),
other than that everything was working fine. Today I

succeeds but when use host name \\node15 I can see shares but double-click

Rsync && ssh && passwordless
I'm attempting to setup rsync to do backups of a remote system. I'd like
to make it passwordless. The trouble I'm running into is I run sshd with
PermitRootLogin Off for obvious security reasons. This means that I can't
use rsync over ssh to the root user. Instead what I thought of was sshing
to the machine I want to backup via a seperate user that is added to the
sudoers file and

OpenSSH bug: server debug output sent to client
Hello SSH developers,
When using the sshd '-d' switch, then the following problem occurs
when a connecting client uses the ssh1 protocol: part of the server's
debug output is not printed to (the server's) stderr, but delivered
to the client (to the client's stderr). Verified with the FreeBSD
version of sshd, and with sshd-3.7.1p2

Bug ID: 26222 - SMB Storm
Please include the following to bug ID: 26222 at:

More checking shows that closing a search window on
Windows in the middle of it's search doesn't stop the
SMB activity. Network utilization remains high, and it
seems as if the server is stuck searching.
In an attempt to verify, I created a share on Win2k,
and followed the same procedure:

sendmail and sudo
This is annoying. I ssh to a server, then, it doesn't matter if I su - or
sudo -s, I start a service (motion, if it matters), and when the service
sends an email, it's from me, not from root, or the user the service runs
as.
I've dumped my environment, I've just dumped service's environment. I've
set SUDO_USER to root, and SUDO_UID to 0, and restarted the service, and

R-2.01 and RSPerl-0.6.2
Hi,
I am somewhat new to R and RSPerl, but I think this particular problem
has to do with RSPerl and so I am not sure if this is the right forum
to ask for help. Nevertheless I am quite sure that many of you would
have used RSPerl with R.
My hardware platform is a Sun/Solaris V440 server running Solaris 9
operating system I use the gcc-3.4.0 compiler to compile R without any
problems. My

Default password hash
We still have MD5 as our default password hash, even though known-hash
attacks against MD5 are relatively easy these days. We've supported
SHA256 and SHA512 for many years now, so how about making SHA512 the
default instead of MD5, like on most Linux distributions?

Regedit issues, not owned by root
Hello.
I have been pretty satisfied with wine since I have become aware of its existance and am having a pretty good time with it. There are, however, a couple issues I can't wrap my head around.
First of all, I cannot run regedit as root, it says:
Code:
wine: /home/mokuren/.wine is not owned by you
I don't know how the root is supposed to "not own" something. This isn't

[HowTo] Installing Samba and sssd on Debian Wheezy (with manual backport)
Hi everyone,
A couple of weeks ago I wanted to install Samba and sssd on a Debian
Wheezy server. The Samba version from the wheezy-backports repo looks
and feels fairly well packaged by now and is updated to the upstream
version, so in my opinion that's the way to go. As regards sssd, I
wanted a version supporting the AD backend (the one in the Wheezy
repos doesn't), so I backported it

i hav learned my english from manpages and documentation.
Please excuse this.
I have setted up a Box w/FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE for connecting
