Rsync File listing
Can someone assist me in using rsync to ssh into a remote server to obtain the file listing? As it appears I have some files on a remote server that I need to pull, however there are many files in the remote server directory, to why I am wanting to only pull a certain (-mtime -1). Here is what I have so far: /usr/local/bin/rsync -e ssh -avz --delete --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync

rsync duplicates after file removal
Hi, After I have removed some files from the backup computer with the command find /home/user/.Maildir/.Spam/* -mtime +30 -type f -exec rm "{}" \; does the command: rsync -av -e "ssh -l root" host:/home/* /home create many duplicates. What I expect is for it to just "restore" the backup to what it was like before. I'm using rsync version 2.6.3 and

Welcome to the "rsync" mailing list
Hello, I have been using the rsync --stats switch to generate rudimentary reports for a while now. I've recently noticed on a new machine I am working with that there seems to be something wrong with the Number of Files Transferred stat. Consider the following two sets of stats from two different rsync sessions. The first session is the initial rsync of a source point and the second is an

Rsync 2.6.9 does not skip any files based on modification time
Hi I am trying to rsync some ghost images from a windows client running Windows XP to my Linux server. The problem is that rsync sends the complete files again even if nothing changed on the client side. The only way to avoid this is to use the "-c"-option but this takes nearly as long as uploading the files would. The server is running rsync-2.6.9, /etc/rsyncd.conf looks as follows.

rsync fails to sync files
Hi, I'm seeing a weird problem with rsync 2.6.9 protocol version 29 on Debian Sarge. When copying a file from one location to another between two Debian boxes, if destination includes a file with same size and name, rsync fails to see that they are not exactly the same file. The situation originates from copying a file to a place which is periodically rsynced onwards, and the rsync

Running 'rsync' as root misses files
Wayne, Hello, I saw a post of yours out on samba.org and was wondering if you might be able to shed a little light on a problem I'm having with rsync. My rsync source files are all off of nfs mounts and the destination directories are all nfs mounts. The owner and groups all end up as nobody/nobody on the destination, despite being all sorts of owners and groups on the source. Have you

O_NOATIME ?
Hello, since we are using rsync for backing up millions of files in a virtual environment, and most of the virtual machines run on SSD cached storage, i`d be curious how that negatively impacts lifetime of the SSD`s when we do rsync run every night for backup my question: does rsync normal file comparison run to determine if anything has changed change atime of any files ? for me it seems,

rsync --daemon and logfile that can't be created
If the rsyncd.conf has a line such as: log file = /var/log/rsync/log and /var/log/rsync doesn't exist or isn't a directory (or the log file can't be opened for any other reason), then there's no warning whatsoever, as rsync forks itself into the background before checking the config, opening the log file, etc. Worse still, it gets a SIGSEGV, and dumps core. Here's a strace

rsync keeps writing files over
OK. Thanks. Where can I find information regarding how to interpret —itemize-changes? The timestamps aren’t changing, so the target must not be storing them, which I have no idea why. The directory I’m writing to is 777. What is the flag to tell rsync to ignore the timestamps? Thanks, Blake On 6/2/16, 6:18 PM, "rsync on behalf of Kevin Korb" <rsync-bounces at lists.samba.org on

can rsync scan files only with mtime since T?
Hi I have a file system that contains millions of small files. Since I backup it everyday with rsync using slow WAN link, I think it will be nice that if rsync can do this: An option that let rsync only check with remote rsync daemon about local files that has last modification time newer than one day ago (so is modified since yesterday backup). This can greatly reduce the WAN traffic. Is this

fixing user, group, and mtime with rsync?
Hi all. I prepared a mirror (that is intended to be updated by rsync) by doing the initial copy using cpio (for efficiency on 15 million files). Unfortunately, user, group, and mtime of some directories and files was copied incorrectly. Can I use rsync (GIT) to fix this?
