Accpac Plus on Samba?
Has anyone had success with Appcac Plus (Dos) running on a samba machine? If so, any particular lanpak and version requirements? How about locking - I'll assume oplocks off (like NT).
Thanks,
Steve

rsync and cygwin
Hi, I'm having some trouble using rsync on W2K under Cygwin. We are using it
to back up the W2K machine to a Linux machine. We are using the patched
version of rsync 2.5.6 that allows it to run faster on NT/2K when
calculating the changes. We can backup a directory without a problem, but
in this case, we want to backup everything, so the directory we are backing
up is \. We do not run rsync

domain admin issue
I have a new Debian testing machine running the Debian Samba 3.0.5.
Everything seems OK except that I cannot get users to have domain admin
rights. I have Windows XP workstations. The workstations join and log
onto the domain fine.
A "net groupmap list" yields:
server:/home/tnolen# net groupmap list

samba and automount
I'm running Samba with automount to automatically mount CDs in a server.
These CDs need to be changed periodically, so I wanted to use automount so
that they could be changed by the users fairly easily. We use logon scripts
to map the CDs to drive letters when users logon. Unfortunately, it seems
that having a drive mapped is treated like the drive is being used, so as
long as there is

samba performance issue
Hi, I recently installed a new samba server to replace an older Novell
machine. Now, we are having performance issues. I have installed many
samba servers, and have not run into this problem before. Some background
info:
The server is an Athlon 1800+ w/ 512MB DDR RAM. We are using software raid
on 80GB IDE ATA 100 drives with the VIA 82C3XX chipset. When mirroring the
drives, we usually get

Re : Re: performance problem ??? AN ANSWER PLEASE ...
Did someone of you find a solution for our problerm ???
I send you the documented as you asked it but I always got the same
problems. I tried some possibilites for optimizing my system but I always
stay with my problem for writing files. Reading files from my shares is not
a problem but writing causes "buffers" problems with windows and windows
says he could not write all the blocks.

Re: Drive Mapping issue on W2K (Trey Nolen)
You're going about this in the wrong way. Review the following piece of
man-page:
logon drive (G)
This parameter specifies the local path to which the home
directory will be connected (see logon home) and is only used by
NT Workstations.
Note that this option is only useful if Samba is set up as a
logon server.

peachtree issue
I have a Debian server running samba 2.2.3. We are running Peachtree 2002 (version 9) and we have issues with the data being on the server. First, during the install, Peachtree says that our server doesn't handle long file names. Obviously it does, but we have to install it by acting like the data is on the local machine and then changing the .ini file to point the data directory to the

performance problem ???
Hi,
I got a similar problem with my test configuration.
I am using share drives from my AMD Athlon XP 1600+ / 512 DDR RAM running with NT4 workstation and my linux server is a Slackware 8.0 with kernel 2.4.18 and Samba 2.2.4 running on a Pentium 166 MMX / 128 RAM / U160 40Gb SCSI disk.
My problem is a bit different. I get well a lot of performance but my connections often break. So I can well

Network access speed.
Good afternoon all,
I have a few questions, and just joined the list and plan on staying.
I had 2 Samba servers at work, both running apache, etc, that we develop on from work and at home over a vpn.
My vpn upload speed is 25K, and at one time windows 2000 could save a document in less than 4 seconds from across the vpn using textpad.
We recently downgraded our crappy 7.1 redhat versions to 6.2

Drive Mapping issue on W2K
I've recently added a w2k client to our company domain and noticed that
when a user logs into the w2k client, samba is mapping the user's home
directory twice, once to h:\ (which is how I've set up the logon
script), and a second time as z:\ (which is not designated at all in the
logon script).
The weird thing is that the same user can then log on from a win98
client and the

Samba download Performance problems
Hi all,
I had a few months ago problems with my linux server running slackware 8 and kernel 2.4.18 with samba 2.2.0a. I could not upload files on my server at more than 220 ko/s.
This problem is now resolved with my recent upgrade of samba to version 2.2.5. I had to decrease SO_RCVBUF to 4096 in my smb.conf too. Between my previous value that was 8192 and the new one ( 4096 ) my upload increases

Re: [slugnet] Password Expiry
Hi Elliot,
I couldn't find anything related to smbpasswd expiry.
Since u have "unix password sync = true", just a wild guess, if u could
turn off password ageing in unix passwd file (man passwd for more detail)
and see if problem persists.

Trouble rsyncing from Windows to Unix
I'm using Cygwin on Windows which I just downloaded and I'm trying to set
up an rsync backup. I'm using an .bat script to copy the files, but it

Following is the script:

RCMD SHLIB problem in 64 bits
I am trying to build a dll writen in C to be called by R.
Interestingly, when I set the global environment variable PATH to be

and I typed "RCMD SHLIB Permutation.c" in Cygwin, the dll was compiled and
I can sucessfully call functions after I had loaded it into 32 bits R via

Debian server
Hi
I've just built a Debian 3.0 Woody Samba server with version 2.23a.
Using stable rather than unstable.
After putting it into a network with another Samba server I find that
the Win98 client machines can't connect to it but they can connect to
the other server. The other server is set to OS level 65 and the new
one is somewhere below that.
I've run all the usual tests and they

Windows 2000 + roaming profiles
Hi all,
I have a Samba 2.2.2 controlled domain (server config: Mandrake 8.1 with
ReiserFS 3.6.25) and have a bit of a problem with profiles.
Basically, there is this one user that has problems when she logs onto
her workstation for the first time each day. The actual filename
differs, but often an error message will be presented during the logon
mentioning that a file could not be downloaded

Tape Drives
Is it possible to share a tape drive using Samba. I have a tape drive that is attached to a Solaris box, that I would like to use to backup my entire environment; Solaris and Windows. If this is possible, how should I configure the smb.conf file.
Thanks
