[cygwin] Fwd: Updated: rsync-2.6.2-3
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Here goes the announcement of the 2.6.2-3 package for cygwin (available
from cygwin's setup itself).
If you wonder what "2.6.2-3" means, it's basically the third "cygwin
package" that uses rsync-2.6.2 sources.
This third attempt solves both the august security fix and the textmode
bug that 2.6.2-2 had.

Failed to dup/close : The descriptor is a file, not a socket
I am getting this error on a Win98SE pc, but not on WinNT4 or Linux Redhat
7.1 or 7.2.
Failed to dup/close : The descriptor is a file, not a socket
The command I used was
rsync -e ssh gas.exe 10.105.50.180:src/
It works like I said on NT4 and from my Linux pc. I have cygwin installed
on the win98 and NT. Rsync is version 2.4.6 Is it just because Win9x

Uhm... removing ntsec shouldn't touch permissions at all...
can't just you use "chmod -R 755 *" after rsyncing?

Is there any plan to do it?
Is it maybe already in and just not documented?

Windows and default --modify-window=0
Uhm... rsync developers: what do you think about changing the default
modify-window in the Cygwin platform?
It seems to me that many problems people have are just because of the
granularity of timestamp.
Maybe changing the default could be the best choice. That would be
documented in the "man" and in my release announcement on
cygwni-annouce, of course.
Just an idea, maybe it's

little patch with zero priority
Hi, I have a little request, which should be considered "very very very
very low priority" but would be useful nonetheless... in Makefile.in
there are two lines with additional space at end of line and my editor
strip it, so I must hand-edit the cygwin-specific patch in order to
create the package (nothing serious: only patch is using /usr instead of
/usr/local as a default prefix and

is it a bug or a feature? re:time zone differences, laptops, and suggestion for a new option
I just did a win2k install, and as I thought i'd remembered, it asked
whether the hardware clock was UTC or localtime (and recommends
localtime). Of course, I chose UTC, but most would probably follow
MegaSloth's recommendation. I don't know how to change it on an
already-installed system, though. Does anyone else?

rsync-3.0.6 on cygwin-1.7
A new 3.0.6 package is now available on cygwin-1.7; I don't plan to
upgrade Cygwin-1.5 packages anymore, so if you want newer releases on
rsync please upgrade to 1.7, with proper care:
http://cygwin.com/#beta-test
This release includes a small patch on rsync configure to detect IPv6
and xattr on Cygwin, please consider including them (or a modification
of them) upstream to help people have a

How to setup Rsync as an NT Service
For a recent project I needed to run Rsync as a service on Windows NT. The
following is a link to the instructions I created to recreate my steps.

The "no-fork" patch used here is very similar to the "no-detach" option
mentioned in many previous posts. I wish I could take credit for it, but I

return the lstat status. I don't know how to do it, though.

AW: ssh + permissions
The "-a" option (the "--links", "--perms", "--devices", and "--times" options are redundant, as
they, as well as "--owner", "--group", and "--recursive" are implied by
"-a" )does dictate that permissions on files being sent be brought over
from the source. Are all files losing permissions, or only files
