Rsync, Cygwin, & SSH: ntsec OR nontsec?
Hi all, Thank-you to all the developers for rsync. It is very well done. I have rsync running on various platforms connecting to the same server and all is good. Except for 1 Win2000 Prof. server. I backup several directories with various permissions and users successfully. However, there are 2 directories that even though the permissions are the same as other directories that are

rsync --password-file= Problem
Dear list, I'm using rsync via CYGWIN (winxp) compu to access our SUSE linux station for backup purposes. I would like to run this regularly, via BAT files, however the password stays necessary (prompt), after using a -pasword-file=/. There is no error message but password stays necessary. rsync -avzuC --delete --password-file=/cygdrive/d/test/test.txt /cygdrive/d/test/

It had always worked quite will until I upgraded to Cygwin 1.7.x (the laptop runs Cygwin 1.7.4 and the workstation 1.7.5 with rsync 3.0.7) I use rsync -av --progress --delete foouser at 192.168.0.xxx::foo_user_files/ to sync

rsync --password-file on cygwin
Hi. As the man page explains, and this message http://www.mail-archive.com/rsync@lists.samba.org/msg04069.html summarizes from the different man pages rsync will not use the password file if it is world readable. Now, if the rsync team was so kind to add the "strict mode" option for the cygwin platform to ignore if the file is world readable when running in daemon mode why

Rsync to Network Share works from cmd but fails from Scheduled Task
Hi raf, I was not aware the network maps were "user experience". Thanks for your tips. I have tried everything I can come up with, but cannot get it to work. I figured out another solution, but thank you very much for your help. Cygwin/rsync/ssh automation problems
Hey all, I have a problem I can't find a solution for. I am on my third day of testing, researching, planning, and swearing. :) I need to set up a convenient way to synchronize a bunch of data over the network for backups. The server is FreeBSD and the client is Windows. Currently we are using PuTTY, Pageant, and PSCP to SCP the files over SSH. This has various problems which led me to look

rsync man pages, rsync faqs, problem with RSYNC_PASSWORD and --password-file
Hi all, This isn't a bug, its just a lapse in the documentation. I just got a script going that repeats every 5 seconds, that uses rsync to send data from A, running Ubuntu V6.06.1, to B, running cygwin. I got stuck on the issue of preventing the password prompt from interrupting the script. The problem is that the man pages are misleading, they suggest that RSYNC_PASSWORD and

Rsync hangs with XP machine used as sshd server
I have a problem with rsync 2.6 protocol 27 (both client and server) running over XP via Cygwin and sshd (on remote machine). It just hangs almost randomly while transfering files after transfering a few megabytes, not always on the same file. When the remote machine is a Linux server I have no problems, bad news is I need also to rsync from XP... I found the problem mentioned somewhere

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Here goes the announcement of the 2.6.2-3 package for cygwin (available from cygwin's setup itself). This third attempt solves both the august security fix and the textmode bug that 2.6.2-2 had. follows the

Possible Bug or limitation in Cygwin 1.7 and Rsync and file number limit
I'm not sure if this is a bug or a limitation that can be worked around with a setting somewhere, but I have found a problem with cygwin 1.7 while using rsync. I have been using rsync and cygwin v1.5 for quite some time. I recently started testing cygwin v1.7 and I ran into a problem with an apparent limit on the number of files cygwin 1.7 along with rsync can process in a directory. First

File/Folder Ownership - Cygwin/Rsync - Is it possible to get around rsync taking file ownership?
Case point: 2 Servers (both with Windows Server 2k3 & cygwin). Running ssh on the destination server. Problem: The rsync user will take ownership over any files copied over from the source server. This takes ownership away from the administrators group, thus disallowing inherited permissions. Is there any way around not taking ownership away from the administrators group and giving it to the

rsync and cygwin
Hi, I'm having some trouble using rsync on W2K under Cygwin. We are using it to back up the W2K machine to a Linux machine. We are using the patched version of rsync 2.5.6 that allows it to run faster on NT/2K when calculating the changes. We can backup a directory without a problem, but in this case, we want to backup everything, so the directory we are backing up is \. We do not run rsync
