Winbind scalability issue
In other people's environments or test situations, what kind of scalability
do you see with winbind? How many aggressive users can be supported?
Using:
Suse SLES 8 for ibm iSeries
Samba authentication with winbind against win2k active directory.
at the moment, a 100 FD network connection
3 windows DC's to authenticate against.

So the current 'Power Systems' range combines what was AS/400 with what
was RS/6000. They all use Power CPUs now and run Linux, IBM i, or AIX.

Samba, DOS, ARJ
Hello All,
I have problem on workstations with PC-DOS 2000 with MS Network Client 3.0 connected
to Samba 3.0.14a-0.4 (default on SLES 9) when I want to use ARJ.EXE (latest version 2.84) and unpack
archive xxxx.arj. When this archive is on network drive shared by samba unpacking does infinite loop.
For example arj l x:\xxx.arj produce never ending listing (and start of this listing is very slow).

FW: Slow opening files on Samba Version 3.0.22 (UPDATED)
Hello,
We are running Samba Version 3.0.22-13.30-1290-SUSE-SLES10 on an iSeries
LPAR with 512 memory and .10 of the processor and a GB NIC. I have
successfully joined this server to our Windows 2000 active directory. I
have copied over some data and setup some test shares and mapped the share
on my pc. I can browse the files in the share with no problem but when I
open any type of file

Default printer environment variable
Hello All,
I'm trying to get the iSeries Access for Linux client (IBM 5250
emulator) working on a CentOS 4.4 system. The client is mostly working
- it connects to the remote AS/400, the custom keymap I created is
recognized, etc. The only problem is printing to a local printer.
The docs for the client state that it reads the default printer
environment variable to figure out which printer

Centring variables in Cox Proportional Hazards Model
Dear All,
I am contemplating centering the covariates in my Cox model to reduce
multicollinearity between the predictors and the interaction term and
to render a more meaningful interpretation of the regression
coefficient. Suppose I have two indicator variables, x1 and x2 which
represent age categories (x1 is patients less than 16 while x2 is for
patients older than 65). If I use the following

Legal questions with jCIFS 0.8.2
I work for IBM and our developers have used jCIFS 0.8.2 in our product. We
are now going through legal approval and have some questions.
If people submit code changes to your product, do you find out if the
submitter has the right to distribute the code? If so, do they need to
sign any kind of statement?
I couldn't find version 0.8.2 on your web site. The legal question is

Production install (RoR + Oracle + IIS)
Hi.
Although an expert developer for IBM systems (iSeries) I am VERY new
to RoR and somehow to the PC development world as well and not
familiar AT ALL with PC configurations, etc. (in my regular job good
ol'' IBM takes care of all that and I just need to code). So forgive me
if any of the following sounds stupid, it probably is. Just get a
laugh at my expense and try to answer between

2.2.7a and 64-bit AIX
Can anyone think of an issue with 2.2.7a compiled on IBM's 64-bit compiler
running on the 64-bit kernel?
I've confirmed that everything appears to be in order on the AIX 5.1
system.
We are running it successfully and it is screaming fast! I just wanted to
know if there is potential for disaster that I've not thought of...
On a related note 2.2.7a is running perfectly with both

Fwd: dovecot bug report (64 bit file offsets)
I have found similar problem:
http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2007-January/018623.html
"After configure remove HAVE_PREAD from config.h, recompile and see
if it works."
I think I figured out where might be the problem. If the binary is
compiled in the 64bit environment and you want to use 64 bit file
offset you must use 64 bit equivalents of the function. Of course if

Asterisk & iSeries AS/400
Hey everybody,
I'm currently look for a script that would allow:
Querying a client, via an IVR for things such as zipcode, Area code
or maybe a portion of the last name.
Using that information to make a Linux ODBC query to an iSeries
AS/400 database.
The information gained from that query would be converted to an
audio stream that is then played back to the client.
I've

Maturity of dbox
Hi,
I am contemplating migrating from maildir to dbox. However, I wonder
about the maturity of the dbox code, as it appears to not be widely
used. Does anybody have some success stories?
My primary driver is to have non-changing file names, and thus smaller
backup deltas. Are there other advantages that I should pursue?
I read in the wiki that the migration is straightforward, but I did not

users of dbox format
I am interested in finding out your experiences with using the dbox
format (especially mdbox) if you use this format.
I am contemplating changing my maildir setup to mdbox but I still need
to make a case for it
against maildir which has become a de-facto standard and provides sort
of a secure basis in case of
software changes.
Your input will be appreciated.

Using Tags in Applications
I''ve been contemplating the utilization of "tags" functionality for
categorizing records in my application. For example, a record can have
any tag associated with them: volunteer, donor, phone_caller, etc.
(Much like delicious)
Has anyone already laid out a good architecture for implementing this
on the DB, or other medium? I''m sure I can custom build something, but
