Rsync not preserving owner/group
For some reason when using -owner -group my files end up being nobody:nobody on the destination..? This is Solaris 9. Jeremy S. Loukinas

--suffix problem - possibly bug?
I'm having an issue with the --suffix and -b flags - I've tried the following commands: rsync -avbr --backup-dir=/rsyncbackup rsynctest user@server.com::module rsync -avbr --backup-dir=/rsyncbackup --suffix="" rsynctest user@server.com::module and either way, I wind up with a tilde as a suffix on all the files moved into the backup directory at time of synchronization.

discrepancy in file count
Rsync counts directories as files when it's creating the file list, but does not count them as files in the "files transferred" statistic. Example output from my backup logs, when initializing a new backup volume (rsyncing a set of data to a completely empty filesystem): [2004-07-09 03:03:37] - Number of files: 75007 [2004-07-09 03:03:37] - Number of files transferred:

verbiage suggestion
It occurs to me that it would probably avoid a LOT of newbie confusion if instead of "bytes written" and "bytes read", the stats said "bytes sent" and "bytes received". Anybody who doesn't know better intutively tends to grasp "bytes written" as what got written *to the hard drive* rather than what got sent over the pipe. Jim Salter JRS

rsync and Perl programming
Hi everybody - I'm trying to write a Perl wrapper for some rsync tasks that need doing. Problem is, there's some sort of odd interaction going on between Perl and the daemon mode communication for the rsync client, and I'm at my wit's end in trying to figure it out. Here's the Perl script: #####################################################

continuing broken pipe problems
Hello all - I am running rsync 2.5.6 on two FreeBSD 5.0 machines. I have experimented with running rsync using ssh, with command lines like the following: rsync -rv --progress jimbo@192.68.100.10:/usr/share/smbshare /usr/home/jimbo And also with running rsync as a daemon on the master server, and syncing to it from the other machine like so: rsync -rv --progress 192.168.100.10::test

Hello all, I am having a problem with rsync. I want to backup data from one machine to another remote machine. I have Freebsd4.7 on source and FreeBSD4.9 on destination machines. rsync is installed on both the machines. I gave the following command at the source machine. rsync -avvznrbe rsh /sourcepath 66.123.34.123:/destinationpath (66.123.34.123 is the destination ip address) Below is the

Fwd: RSync Progress Report Request
I would line to see a -progress_time {sec} type option, which wil only show the progress of a file after that file has already taken more than {sec} to transfer. This could also ne a useful addition to the compond -P option, say with a argument of 5 seconds. Situation... I use RSync all the time to syncronize my home directory on my work machine with that of my home machine (or visa-sersa).

Major difference in the outcome between SPSS and R statistical programs
Dear collegues, I have used R statistical program, package 'lmer', several times already. I never encountered major differences in the outcome between SPSS and R. ...untill my last analyses. Would some know were the huge differences come from. Thanks in advance, Ronald In SPSS the Pearson correlation between variable 1 and variable 2 is 31% p<0.001. In SPSS binary logistic

USGS stream flow data automatic download R
I don't even know if this is the right place to ask this question. I would like to download USGS stream gauging data for a couple of gauges on a daily basis- save the files to .csv files and append the nest days time series to this. Is there a way to do this automatically in R? thanks, -- Stephen Sefick Let's not spend our time and resources thinking about things that are so little or

Topological network Map
Hello I'd like to create a simple topological map of a river system, ie all the waterways, where they join and points on them such as gauging stations so that it looks something like the London Tube map - where distances are not important but the relationships of the nodes are. I could probably Heath-Robinson something together but I wondered whether there was any kind of package already out

Reduce/eliminate console printing time?
Hi: I have been writing some functions in R that are about 500-1000 lines long, and when I copy and paste the code into the R console, it takes about 20-30 seconds for R to ?print? and run the code at the console command line (and this is just for function definition - R isn't actually executing any commands). If I minimize the R console so that it shows only one line at a time, screen

(Fwd) Re: goodfit macro
Dear R-Help: As you can see, Prof. Friendly refers me to your site for an executable version of vcd. I don't mean to be obtuse, but 15 minutes spent exploring your site failed to locate a downloadable version of the vcd package to which he referred. I know plainly what this application can do. What I need to know is how to obtain the application itself. My thanks in advance for any

Just my opinion but I've found streaming with quality -1 22khz Mono produces the best sound quality for 32kb/s. 11khz stereo sounds like crap in comparison. I'm just waiting (impatiently) for OddCastDSP(v1) to support 22050 mono via the SQRSoft crossfader. If

Firewall sizing guidelines?
I have just completed the installation of a new firewall running Shorewall 1.4 on Mandrake 9.2 for our campus network. It appears to be running fairly well so far, but is generating significantly more log entries than our previous linux 2.0.x firewall... Our previous firewall enjoyed more than 6 years of 24/7 operation with no downtime before we finally decided it needed more horsepower, and

Major difference in the outcome between SPSS and R statisticalprograms
First off, Marc Schwartz posted this link earlier today, read it. http://cran.r-project.org/doc/FAQ/R-FAQ.html#Why-are-p_002dvalues-not-di splayed-when-using-lmer_0028_0029_003f Second, your email is not really descriptive enough. I have no idea what OR is, so I have no reaction. Third, you're comparing estimates from different methods of estimation. lmer will give standard errors that

G.729.1 - any interest?
The G.729.1 "wideband" codec is starting to show a slight bit of traction. There is a possibility that Asterisk could support G.729.1 - would you use it or buy it if it was available? More importantly, does any equipment with which your systems currently exchange traffic support G.729.1? Currently, the number of devices supporting G.729.1 seems to be fairly limited and it

DNAT for ongoing UDP flows
Hi, i need to dynamically change the destination IP address of UDP packets for an ongoing UDP flow. That means when the flow starts for the first time no change is needed and after some time a change of the destination IP address must be done to redirect the packets to another machine dynamically. For new flows this could be done using e.g.: iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT/PREROUTING -p udp
