post transfer script for forcing perms
I'm looking to see of it is practical to have an rsync server run a script after
a transfer finishes. I am moving files (python source) from windows (common
point of development) to a few linux machines. big problem being
owner/group/perms are always wrong and python's module install process is
fragile with respect to OGP. Therefore, I want to run a script after
transferring a set

How to Code Random Nested Variables within Two-way Fixed Model in lmer or lme
Hi All,
I am frustrated by mixed-effects model! I have searched the web for
hours, and found lots on the nested anova, but nothing useful on my
specific case, which is: a random factor (C) is nested within one of the
fixed-factors (A), and a second fixed factor (B) is crossed with the
first fixed factor:
C/A

A x B
My question: I have a functioning model using the aov command (see

unexpected raid1 behavior?
Hi, I''m starting to play with btrfs on my new computer. I''m running Gentoo and
have compiled the 2.6.31 kernel, enabling btrfs.
Now I have 2 partitions (on 2 different sata disks) that are free for me to
play with, each about 375 gb in size. I wanted to create a "raid1" volume
using these two partitions, so I did:
# mkfs.btrfs -d raid1 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb5
# mount

Migrating zpool to new drives with 4K Sectors
Hi ZFS Discuss,
I have a 8x 1TB RAIDZ running on Samsung 1TB 5400rpm drives with 512b sectors.
I will be replacing all of these with 8x Western Digital 2TB drives
with support for 4K sectors. The replacement plan will be to swap out
each of the 8 drives until all are replaced and the new size (~16TB)
is available with a `zfs scrub`.
My question is, how do I do this and also factor in the new

Extension proposal - partly serious
Alright folks, here's the solution.
1) Keep extensions to 3 letters for audio & video. Except for special
situations where the user might be doing a codec specific name. Since the
official extensions are 3 letters, those can always be used on any 8.3
device.
2) introduce a new extension .OGV for ogg container video. With a strong
preference for Xiph only codecs. (If you want 3rd

Samba 4.6.8 (Non packaged version) dns update issue
Hi Guys,
I am running into an issue here.
We have 2 domain controllers using BIND_DLZ as dns backend
OS: CentOS 6.9
Samba version: Samba 4.6.8 self compiled on another host and
distributed internally as RPM packages
Bind version: BIND 9.8.2rc1-RedHat-9.8.2-0.62.rc1.el6_9.4
Almost daily I need to restart the named process (service named
restart) to make dynamic dns updates from the member

find() with id array - can i preserve the ordering?
Sort of a newbie question - sorry if it''s been asked before and I missed it
in my search.
I have an id_array of Author ids, and I want to retrieve the associated
Author models as quickly as possible, but also preserve the ordering of the
id_array.
Using Author.find(id_array) returns the records, but not in the same order.
Is there some flag I can pass to find() to preserve the order? I

tidy dir recursive, but preserve itself
Hi all,
I''d like to clean up a temp. directory (files and subdirs within), but even
the directory should be preserved, e.g.:
tidy { "/var/trash":
age => ''1m'',
recurse => true,
type => atime,
rmdirs => true
}
This does not only remove the content of /var/trash with an atime greater 1m,
but also /var/trash . How

preserve owner when owner is the only change
Hello,
I'm trying to make incremental backups with rsync (I'm reading
http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots/ )
But I can't backup a file with old owner when the change on the file is
only the owner (content is unchanged).
rsync -av -e ssh --link-dest=$PWD/backup.1/ --numeric-ids --delete

How to preserve capital letter
Hi all,
I'm not sure whether it is samba related, but I've got this situation:
I'm sharing a clipper program with samba, and then user access it using dosemu
installed in each workstation.
The program runs fine, except, when it creates a temporary file, it creates
the filename in small letter (not in capital letter when run in DOS). Seems
that the program is having trouble with
