Root access over ssh?
Is it possible to configure rsync in server mode, to gain access to root
protected files, without the user having to log in as root through ssh?
I'd prefer to login as a regular user through ssh and access an rysnc
server on the host that's running as root. As far as I can tell,
however, that's not possible...am I wrong?

error starting client-server protocol (code 5)
I'm running FreeBSD 4.6.2 on two different machines. Both machines have
rync installed by way of the ports library, but one of them is running
it as a server. I followed the directions in the man pages for running
the server using inetd.
Here is what happens:
rsync rsync://myusername@10.0.0.8/

While configuration it was

not been created anywhere in system.

getting started on MacOS X
Hello -
I am attempting to test rsync on a series of 8 MacOS X servers. On my
initial test, I configured one machine as the "sender" and one machine
to "receive."
On the "sending" machine, I created an rsyncd.conf file. On the
"receiving" machine, I issued the command
rsync --daemon
To which I got no error messages.

Rsync in daemon mode
Hi,
I am a newbie to Rysnc and a had a quick question, the answer for which I wasn't able to find in the documentations.
Currently I have Solaris system A which has files that are being generated and changed in real time. I am running rysnc in daemon mode on A.(server)
On system B I use the appropriate rysnc command to connect to system A and sync all the files on B. I am having

rysnc failure
Hello,
I have been using rsync to sync data from 1 ftp server to a backup ftp
server. Both servers are Solaris 10 X86, and the file systems being synced
are a few hundred zfs user data file-systems under the parent/root ftp
area. I noticed an unexpected problem in the sync log files, one of the
user data directories had bumped up against it's quota, and failed to write
the data. That is

rsync backup
Hi,
I want to mirror a samba server (smb0) to a identical server (smb1) in
my internal network. So far I can managed to do this from client (smb1),
rsync -e ssh -auzpg 10.10.10.24:/home/MYDOMAIN /home
rsync -e ssh -auzpg 10.10.10.24:/srv/ /srv
I would like to automate this task without entering root password. But
I'm little confused. Should I setup rsyncd.conf from the server and

rsync with delete option creates and deletes dot files
All,
I have an rsync based backup process which uses rsyncd on the source,
to backup to a directory on the client.
I have rsync version 3.1.2 on the client and 2.6.8 on the source host
(daemon).
The rysnc command I use is;
/usr/bin/rsync -aHzS --partial --numeric-ids --delete --timeout=3600 \

restricting rsync over ssh
Is it true that when running rsync via ssh (i.e. rsync -e ssh ...) the
rsyncd.conf file is not applicable on the remote since rsync is launched
via the ssh exec call once connected rather than from rsyncd as in a
direct connect.
If so, I am trying to find the best way to restrict rsync -e ssh on the
remote machine. Prepending the authorized_keys entry with
command='rsync ...' 1024...

update rysnc 3.0 on ubuntu 7
I am runninng rsync on Ubuntu. It was installed using apt-get install rysnc.
I note that the package has not yet been updated to rysnc 3.0.
I would like to update using the tar but I am confused how to update the
existing installation.
On this machine, I am mainly using rsync to send to a cwrsync server (which
I have updated already). Can I just overwrite the rsync executable?
Any help

wait4ifup
Hi,
I have just installed 2.0.1 on two boxes. One box did not have shorewall
on at all and the other had 1.4.10 on. Both these boxes are Debian. On
the 1.4 box it upgraded fine, and everything works OK. The
/etc/init.d/shorewall script runs on startup and loads shorewall fine.
On the clean box the /etc/init.d/shorewall script does not seem to work.
When run it produces no output, so on bootup

Data.frame manipulation
Hi All,
I'm conducting a meta-analysis and have taken a data.frame with multiple
rows per
study (for each effect size) and performed a weighted average of effect size
for
each study. This results in a reduced # of rows. I am particularly
interested in
simply reducing the additional variables in the data.frame to the first row
of the
corresponding id variable. For example:

Row to Column help
Dear R Community,
I am attempting to transpose a dataset from rows to columns but am stuck. I
have tried using reshape() with little luck, possibly due to the categorical
nature of the data. For example:
id<-c(1,2,2,3,3,3)
author<-c("j","k","k","l","l","l")

Connecting to live calls
Hi all,
Is there a way to connect two live calls through the manager api without directing them to a meeting room? Currently, I can connect them by sending them to a meeting room. However, I don't know what the overhead is, and I kind of think that if I can connect them or link them up, the overhead would be minimum.
