Portforwarding using the control master.
Hi all, currently I am considering writing a patch for OpenSSH that will allow portforwarding using the control_master unix domain socket. The idea is to introduce an extra SSHMUX command, SSHMUX_COMMAND_SOCKS, which will then pass control to the normal socks functions used for dynamic forwarding. The main reason for me to write this patch are: - some more control over who gets to connect to

Minimal AD DC server for dev/test setup
Hi Samba List, I am developing software which should interop with AD/LDAP, I am looking at using the Samba DC and loading it with some example user accounts. "Interop with AD" means use and AD backend for authentication, retrieval of basic user record and membership info. Simple enough/ In the past, I've implemented similar functionality using OpenLDAP as the reference backend

Minimal AD DC server for dev/test setup
About the last question, I'll be reading up on samba-tool. Apologies. A better question is: can I run the DC without an attached DNS server? How little can I get away with running? In my imagination, I should be able to run just the LDAP+Kerberos parts, AIUI that's all I need, skipping DNS, fileserving, winbind, etc; blame this on my view of AD as a quirky LDAP. Again, scoped for my use

Can someone explain how samba handles permissions?
Can someone explain the following behavior. I don't understand windows permissions very well, so I'm not sure if the following is a problem or considered normal. I have a directory called sigmaproj on my samba server; ls -la gives the following information: 14 drwxrwxrwx 31 bkelly users 6656 Sep 17 16:12 sigmaproj in this directory is a file: 2 -rw-r--r-- 1 dvorak users

How do I switch the keyboard layout?
Hello there. I'm trying to switch the keyboard layout for a wine application to a nonsystem standard. Background: system standard is dvorak, but that horribly conflicts with the AWSD movement control of games. Stuff I tried and failed: * switching the layout in the GNOME panel keyboard layout switcher * rewriting the xorg.conf for english as standard language * loading us layout with loadkey

Problems building osox-src-2006-08-16 on x86_64 (dwarf data)
Hello, Did anybody outside SUN tried to build xen-src (osox-src-2006-08-16)? I had tried it on x86_64 machine. I am running SXCR46 (I know that it says that SXCR 44 is needed, but I hope that this is a minimum requierment, even that it doesn''t say it explicitly, and that SXCR 46 is also good. BTW, Am I right in this ? ) ; I ran "nightly opensolaris.sh &". My

Patch for rsyncable zlib with new rolling checksum
Hi all- My test results so far indicate a pretty decent improvement in overall rsync performance when using a slightly more sophisticated checksum calculation. The attached patch has the required changes (in hindsight, I should have compressed this using zlib with the new algorithm :-) ). Some things to know about the patch: First, it is against the zlib library - NOT the gzip application. By

gzip-rsyncable.diff
Hi, I currently create large (500MB-2.5GB) tar.gz files that I am trying to get to rsync better. After doing some research by reading a lecture presented by the original author of rsync and googling the list archives, I have concluded that the gzip-rsyncable.diff is the best way to get gzipped files to rsync nicely. The only version I could find of this patch is available here:

color profiles
Hello, I was trying to figure out why I couldn't manage color profiles on a printer shared by a Samba server, and found a posting in this mailing list from May 23, 2003 by John Reilly that says it's not possible: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-May/067922.html - I quote: > Color profiles cannot be done in Samba (today). RSync with File Compression
Hello, Rsync is great, thanks to all who work on it. Does anyone have any good strategies for keeping the backups on the remote side compressed on disk? I'm under the impression that gzipping the files would not work as they would not be available to rsync in the uncompressed state for subsequent backups. A compressed filesystem would be prefect, but the only references I could find was for

Rsync friendly zlib/gzip compression - revisited
Hi, all - I've been digging into the question of using rsync to sync up compressed data, and read with interest the conversations regarding the rsync friendly patch available for gzip (I belive Rusty provided this patch). For anyone interested, the message thread is archived at http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2002-June/thread.html. The broad outline of this approach were mentioned in

Deploying Solaris on Xen via jumpstart
Hi everybody, Today I tried the latest Solaris on Xen build. I downlaoded all files and created the iso. Then I wanted to run setup_install_server , but this failed: bash-3.00# ./setup_install_server /export/sol_xen/ -bash: ./setup_install_server: cannot execute binary file -bash-3.00# So I create a tar file to copy over all files to export/sol_xen/ Then I tried to start and install via

libvirtd does not update VM .xml configurations on filesystem after virsh snapshot/blockcommit
Hi, Recently We've upgraded some KVM hosts from Fedora 29 to Fedora 30 and now experience broken VM configurations on filesystem after virsh blockcommit. Commands "virsh dumpxml ..." and "virsh dumpxml --inactive ..." is showing diffrent configuration than the one on filesystem. In case of restart libvirtd or system reboot, there are broken VM xml configurations on
