[patch] --link-dest
Updated to current cvs without the --exclude-from - patch. This patch allows specifying a --link-dest path similar to --compare-dest except that unchanged files are hard-linked to the --link-dest path instead of producing a sparse tree. -- ________________________________________________________________ J.W. [PATCH][RFC] space saving incrementals
Please CC me directly as i'm not on the list. I have attached a patch against latest CVS (cvs diff -u) that adds the following functionality. I can break it up if you would prefer it in pieces. Comments welcome. o add compare-perms option This creates a new inode for a file even if only the perms have changed. This way if a file outside of destdir is hardlinked to a dentry inside

rsyncing read-only files
Hi guys, I have a simple question regarding using rsync when one has read-only files on the src machine. My situation is the following: I have two machines, call then A and B. I'm using rsync on B to download from A (I'm running rsync in daemon mode on A from inetd.conf). The rsyncing on B works fine except for one problem: when I run rsync on B to do the downloading from A, I get

Multiple compare-dest args
Hi all. I have just finished a small patch that adds support for multiple --compare-dest or --link-dest args. Its primary usage is to do incremental backups on top of eachother. (My current backup system stores each incremental as a single diff of the latest full.) Example: First full backup: rsync -a somedir full-20040415/ First incremental: rsync -a --compare-dest=../full-20040415 \

Added functionality --compare-file and --compare-auto
Recently various needs for multiple version handling were discussed and I put forward a plan of mine. Subsequently the proposal for a --compare-file=<FILE> switch had support, so I have implemented this. I have also implemented an experimental --compare-auto which decides which file to match against using a rule. Instructions for patch: 1. Install rsync-2.5.6 source 2. "patch -p1

good snapshot solution
Hi all, I have installed rsync 2.5.5 as daemons on our 35 Netware servers (no 2.5.6 is yet available for Netware) and do a daily sync from a Linux Rsync client machine with 1.2 TB disk capacity. For the moment we do a daily, weekly and monthly backup on tape of this machine, but I'd like to replace the daily backups by a disc-based setup. It would be good to be able to share the

Kickstart install via network, nonexistant disk sda
Hello all, I have 3 Supermicro 1u servers, each with dual 250gb SATA drives. I have a server with CentOS 5 64bit setup for pxebooting and kickstart installs. I have a kickstart install file that doesn't specify the disks specifically. It works like a champ, and the operating system installs and completes. I have a kickstart install file that specifies the disk devices (sda,

no output from perl script
Here is the first Perl script I've tried to write to run rsync. It seems to work, but I don't see the progress like I should. I apologize if it's sloppy, I should add that it's not only the first perl script I've written for rsync, it's the first perl script I've written at all. ___________________________ #!/usr/bin/perl -w print " This command will DELETE

[PATCH] --link-dest option
Please CC me. I'm not subscribed. Attached is a patch against 2.5.4pre1 CVS current to add the --link-dest option so rsync will create hardlinks for unchanged regular files to a directory on the destination. This is like --compare-dest except that the result is not a sparse tree. Also included is extension to --(ex|in)clude-from to allow - for stdin. Could one of the maintainers please add

--link-dest
Why does --link-dest assume -ugp ? This patch removes those assumptions allowing mortal users to use --link-dest for back ups. (I think... I didn't look at the large picture.) rsync 2.6.1 released (including security note)
Hopefully the email to the announce list will show up soon. Until then, you can get a jump on the rest by checking out the rsync home page to read the announcement: http://rsync.samba.org/ It includes a security note about a fix that affects read/write daemons that are not using chroot. If that includes you, you should look into upgrading (or maybe enabling chroot on an older rsync).
