Question about --files-from= and folder structure
I'm writing a script to sync some mp3 files. Due to a limitation in the
number of destination files that can be read from my thumb drive, I'm
not looking to preserve the original file structure (actually, I'm
looking to sync *only the files* to the new destination directory).
The source files are all subfolders under /backup/Music:

redirecting whole subnet
Hi folks,
i''m looking for a method to route a whole static subnet to another static
subnet elsewhere on the internet.
I think this must work like this:
Packet going to original destination, packet destination is overridden with
new destination-ip, packet source is overridden with the original destination.
Otherwise the packets will be filtered by the spoofing-protection of the

R on MacOS X
I just got a G4 running MacOS 10.3 today, so I immediately downloaded
R from CRAN. To my disappointment, it insists on installing in a fixed
place and requires a root password to do so. University policy is that
if your machine is on the net, you WON'T get root access nohow, unless
you're a designated sysadmin, which I'm not. Is there any alternative
to downloading a source

ppp connection only every second time
hello everyone,
i am setting up my computer and want to establish internet connection over ADSL. For this i have to use pptp.
The annoying thing is, that doing 'pptp 10.0.0.138' i get a connection only every second time.
Perhaps it is a problem, that i cannot stop pptp but killing it, and therefore pppd has to clean up?
i am using pppd 2.4.3 and pptp 1.5.0
Thanks in advance

Lazy Samba (that'd make it Waltz)
Funny thing happening with an NT Client: it sees all the files in a
public Samba share, but when I make any change (like renaming a file or
dropping files into it) the change doesn't show up in the window until I
press F5 (Refresh). Is it some config in Samba whichs defaults to "lazy"
behavior which I'm failing to see?
Thanx 4All,
Juan

Carbonite on Wine?
Is it forseeably possible to get Carbonite Online Backup running in Wine?
This is something I've wanted to get working in Wine for quite a while now and have tried to do so every now and then (I think as far back as last year). Just now bringing this to the forums.
I tried it again today and earlier this week with Wine 1.3.35. Nothing visible other than endless babbling outputting from

New RadRails tutorial using AWDWR book
Hello there,
I am basically a J2EE refugee fascinated with Rails.
I have been using the Spring framework (a lightweight J2EE java framework
with some special characteristics) but I am so impressed with RoR that I am
porting over many applications.
In order to "dive into Rails", of course the second thing to do was get
myself an IDE, and since I''ve been using Eclipse for the
