Preserving Permissions using server
Hi!:) - try using the sudo command as a prefix to all of that. I know that if I didn't do that it would default to nobody.nobody when I copied. -Tito > > Hi All, > I recently installed Rsync to perform backup features - this > includes backing up a /home dir and keeping ownerships/permissions > intact is obviously very important.... > > However when I perform.

problem with --delete if I sync part of a dir
Hi, I'm using rsync for a couple of things but I am at a point where I could not find a solution for my problem. this is what I want to do: rsync only the files i_* from a directory from machine A to machine Bi and delete them from machine B if they on longer exist on machine A. so I use the command: rsync -azv --stats -e ssh --delete i_* user@host:/dir/ When using this command the files

dir list behavior differences?
Hello, I have set up an anonymous rsync server that seems to work as expected. However when I try to access the server from several other unix boxes using rsync with a command like this; rsync netlib3.cs.utk.edu::netlib I get the motd and then a line that states client: nothing to do Now I would expect this to give me a directory listing. I do get the directory listing as expected when

rsyncd + scripting
Hey all, Like a lot of folks, I use rsync to pull content out to production web servers. Tastes great, less filling. Here's what I'd like to be able to do: Sometimes a web tree is not ready to sync, for whatever reason. I have many modules available, so stopping ryncd is not an option. I'd like to be able to tell rsync in daemon mode "this particular module is not available at

RSYNC: Backup Solution thoughts...

rsync HELP!!!
Sonu: I'm giving the whole history to the rsync list. If the tests i subscribed passed, yet you get that error, it's more in depth than i can go into. You've got 1 hour, let's hope somebody immediately recognizes the problem. I've got some ideas, but no time to explore any more for you. Gentlemen: does anybody see a quick resolution for Sonu? Looks like he's

transfer interrupted (code 3) at flist.c(812)
Ok, I just setup the log file and this is what I see there: rsync on cdrive/Temp/pix.log from admx (141.214.137.139) transfer interrupted (code 3) at flist.c(812) I had to change [cdrive] from path = "c:\" to path = c: to get rid of '@ERROR: chdir failed' error. I am getting close but still need some help. Thanks in advance. Nishi > -----Original Message----- From:

Update: WARNING: --rsh or -e option ignored when connecting to rsyncdaemon]
the --pasword-file= option is only for passing a password to a rsync server, as you have set up with the rsync --daemon process. Your rsyncd.conf file is fine, too. The problem is that you aren't calling your rsync daemon from your commandline. You are trying to connect via rsync to host as axlink and start a 'rsync --sender' process, to transfer data within the ssh process.

Problem with absolute symbolic links
I'm trying to synchronize a particularly troublesome directory structure on a SunOS box to a PC. I really want all symbolic links resolved to real files on the PC when everything is done. I can't seem to find any combination of parameters that will accomplish this. It boils down to two problems. 1. It seems like that even if I exclude a symbolic link that is a directory it is not

suppressing motd without decreasing verbosity
Is there a way to make the rsync client suppress the motd without suppressing other messages when connecting to an rsync server? What I want is to run rsync from cron and have it produce output only when any files have been downloaded or deleted and whenever errors have happened. Otherwise, I want it to be quiet. This doesn't seem to be possible with rsync as of version 2.5.7. When I use the

RegExpr in ---exclude
Hi there, is it possible to use regular expressions in the exclude-paramter of rsync ? For example: rsync --exclude "/path/to/*/[Ff][Oo][Ll][Dd][Ee][Rr]" I've tried it, but it will take no effect. -- SET THE CONTROLS FOR THE HEART OF THE SUN Jens

Exclude
Hi Folks, I'm running rsync between an NT client and a Solaris 7 Server (Ver 2.4.6). I'd like to be able to exclude the following directory: /opt/IBMHTTPDLOG/archivelogs but retrieve /opt/IBMHTTPDLOG My setup is: rsync -av -p -e rsync@server1.cna.com:/opt/IBMHTTPDLOG/ F:/opt/IBMHTTDLOG (client) rsync --daemon --exclude-from=/etc/rsync.exclude (server) What I get is

secrets file
I am planning on rsyncing between 3 different computers that all have the same username, but different passwords. Is there a way to specify which user from which host belongs to which password? Or do I have to use different users between the 3 boxes? Thanks for the help, Mike

Strict Mode for Client?
Is there a way to specify "strict modes = false" on the client side? I'm having trouble getting the client to accept the password file on Windows 2000, since rsync doesn't want the file to be other-readable, but this concept doesn't map too well to Windows. Alternatively, if I could simply set the proper permissions on the passfile, that would suit me fine, but it seems

problems between different versions of rsync
Are there issues between different versions of rsync? Specifically I have a 2.4.6 on solaris 8 pushing to a 2.3.0 on solaris 2.6 over ssh(F-Secure version). The issue that I am seeing is that when I use the following command: rsync --delete -rlvp -e ssh2 $localdir user@host:remotedir The user and group are different on both boxes(neither being root). Any help would be appreciated. --Jeff

Delete old files?
I have Rsync working ok, backing up some server directories onto another server each evening. If I do an rsync back up of a directory - called "test", for example - and in the "test" directory there is a file called "testfile", it gets backed up OK. However, if that file, "testfile" gets deleted from the original "test" directory, when I run

rsync memory usage
Hi, we are using rsync to mirror large trees (>> 50 GB, >> 2 mio files) offsite (rsync -e ssh with forced ssh command on the remote side). The main problem occuring is memory usage (especially as the remote system has no swap space configured for security reasons): It seems that the rsync processes' RSS on both sides increases with the number of files in the tree. Rsyncing the
