rsync 2.5.5 fails to kernel.org
Greets.
I thought I saw someone asking for problem reports against 2.5.5.
Red Hat 7.1 + errata with rsync 2.5.5 from tgz sources. I use the rsync
command:
rsync -rltv --partial --delete --delete-excluded" \
rsync://rsync.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ \
/var/ftp/pub/mirrors/kernel.org/
I get the following error:
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1493971 bytes read so far)

Enhancement suggestion: improve the host not found error message
When I feed a bogus hostname to rsync, it reports "Undefined
error". It would be useful if instead it would say something more
informative, like "Host not found".
Thanks for rsync!

RFC for feature request
Hi.
Recently at work we've begun using rsync to sync up our development baseline
area between our office in Houston, and the one in Gatwick.
We use rsync quite extensively, and are quite happy with it, but have run
into a bug discussed by Dave Dykstra in the "Discussion/2214" entry on the
rsync website:
http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/rsync/1999-October/001440.html

rsync 2.5.5 compilation problems
Hi,
I compiled rsync on an HPUX 11i box, and got lots of errors about
redefining sendfile() and sendpath(). The compilation succeeded, but the
binary failed. I then took a binary I had compiled on an HP11.00 box, and
it worked fine.
I tried this with both gcc & the HP ansic compilers. The same results.
I am attaching a full transcript of the configure & compilation session.

rsync release candidate rsync-2.5.5rc1 available
The rsync team is happy to announce the availability of a 2.5.5
release candidate. If no serious bugs are reported against this
version it will become release 2.5.5 at the end of this week.
If you use rsync, please test this release candidate so that the final
release of 2.5.5 can be reliable. In particular, we would appreciate
test results from people running Solaris or BSD, and from anybody

Some files always copied to W2K system
I am copying from a rsync --daemon
(have tried from both W2K/cygwin & Linux daemons) to a W2K machine.
Some files get copied every time even though they haven't been touched
since the last copy. I have experimented and deturmined that the file
size seems to be important. If the file is between 926 & 933 bytes
long it will always be copied!! Other sizes and possibly other aspects of

[patch] suggestions for -v option
The attached patch makes two changes to the behavior of the -v option:
1) The initial "building file list ... done" and the last two lines
with transfer statistics are moved to verbose level 2, which means
that you have to specify -vv to see them. When I use -v, I only want
to see which files are being updated.
Perhaps the statistics could be controlled by a separate option,

"error in rsync protocol data stream"
Hello,
I'm having a problem doing a remote rsync over ssh - i'm using a script that
has worked for quite a while, using rsync 2.4.6 on both ends. I upgraded the
"client" to 2.5.5, and began seeing this error:
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (158246 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(150)

404 HTTP not found
Hi
I wrote a script which retrieves links from websites and loads them with scan:
...
website<-tolower(scan(current.pages[i], what="character", sep="\n", quiet=TRUE))
...
However occasionally, the script finds broken links, such as <http://www.google.com/test>. when the script tries to access such websites, the repeat loop breaks and I get the error message

Is it possible to retrieve the last error? (not error *message*)
Hi,
at the R prompt, is it possible to retrieve the last error (as in
condition object of class "error")?
I'm not asking for geterrmessage(), which only returns the error
message (as a character string). I'm basically looking for a
.Last.error or .Last.condition, analogously to .Last.value for values,
which can be used when it is "too late" (not possible) to go back

rsync.samba.org
Howdy everybody,
Dunno if anyone's got a log monitor or mailing script set up for 404
errors on rsync.samba.org, but
http://rsync.samba.org/rsync/fom-serve/cache/1.html
emits a 404. It's where the the FAQ-O-Matic nav link that's found
throughout the site eventually sends the browser.
Sorry about posting this to the listserv, couldn't find a "tell the
webmaster" link

Possible exclude bug in 2.5.5 in rsyncd.conf
Hello all,
I've found some behavior in 2.5.5 that is contrary to the documentation
in the man page.
Specifically, I'm running an rsync server (i.e. from inetd with
--daemon),and in the module definition I'm specifying the line "exclude
nosyncdir". The documentation for rsyncd.conf indicates that this is
exactly equivalent to using "--exclude nosyncdir" on the
