far as amount of data to transfer, number of files, or the size of any one
file. However, in looking at the output of one particular job it looks
like it?s just putting out directories when it gets to a new one, and not

I've tracked the files down by file size, it will skip the directory name

rsync stalls -- sleeps indefinetly
Dear Developers
First of all I would love to thank you for a nice tool
I had been using rsync within backuppc project to backup my remote
hosts. It had been working fine until the moment (as I think) whenever I
moved RAID to another box and now the source directory
(/raid/research) is now actually NFS mounted. Now backup (rsync
process) stalls and sleeps indefinitely
On the backup server:

"Bad address" error
I'm getting a "bad address" error which is causing my rsync process to
bomb out.
I'm running RsyncX 2.1, in daemon mode on the source machine, with a
script to pull the information to the backup server. Both servers are
Xserves running OS X Server 10.2.8. Rsync target is on an Xserve RAID.
The RAID has 350GB free, so I'm not running into a disk full situation.
My command

I have never used the rsync command. The above command was used by a former sysadmin to "synchronize" two servers. However when I ran the command

rsync backup hangs at boot
rsync seems to work fine copying from the running system. Files match as
far as a random check. I've been hoping to simplify life by rsyncing
from the running system to have a bootable backup. Most conversations on
the list suggest this is easy, and I've gotten it to happen, and now I've
forgotten to do some detail.... ( /etc/fstab is corrected to refer to the

Two bugs in rsync (--dry-run and --delete-excluded)
Hi rsync gurus!
[Please Cc: me, as I am NOT subscribed to the list!]
First the data points:
debian/woody, local server=i386 arch, remote is alpha arch
rsync version on both debian 2.5.5-0.2
While upgrading our server to a raid we were hit by a bug which I really
consider very strange:
The option -n/--dry-run does NOT change files, but DELETE files when
called with --delete.
Test case I had:

The following modifiers are accepted after a ???+??? or ???-???:
o A / specifies that the include/exclude rule should be matched
against the absolute pathname of the current item. For example,
???-/ /etc/passwd??? would exclude the passwd file any time the
transfer was sending files from the ???/etc??? directory, and ???-/

I20 Drivers Crash system when used with Rsync
Note: I don't know if this is a problem withe I20 drivers or Rsync so
I'm submitting to both the Kernel Bugzilla and the Rsync mailing list. I
couldn't find a bugzilla for Rsync. I hope this was the correct way to
submit this issue.

Some help with sudo on remote side of rsync
I have an rsync script that has worked well for me for quite a while now
rsyncing RAID volumes attached to two servers, one on our LAN and one at
our colocation facility. I have been struggling for months, however, to get
the script to run without password prompts so I can run it on cron. The
rsync script is running on the system at the colo and ?pulling? files from

Rsync --daemon v 2.5.5 v26 causing kernel panic
Has anyone seen this? Looking for past experiences / ideas. Will post
progress.
I'm tracking down a problem that seems to be caused by rsync. When
moving files from a remote server I get a kernel panic.
We have a number of servers that back up to a main box -- the panic only
occurs when a specific client backs up. It occurs on the box it is
backing up to -- not the client.

rsync 3.0.9 hangs when syncing from NFSv3 share - possible to retry after timeout?
Hello,
I'm using rsync 3.0.9 to backup several NFS shares from a fileserver, mounted over NFSv3, to a local RAID on a backup server. Both servers are running Ubuntu 12.04 server LTS. The fileserver's filesystem is ext4. The NFS shares are mounted on the backup server as follows:
fileserver:/mnt/storage/share1 /mnt/share1 type nfs (ro,tcp,bg,soft,intr,addr=192.168.1.1)

Help With File transfer of files named "Apple*" + Lacie 5Big RAID
Hello Rsync Community,
I have been using rsync for several years to backup servers across an
array of different areas.
I have run into a new problem that I cannot find an answer for.
We just recently purchased a Lacie 5Big Network RAID: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1596257
for one organization.
We set up a test server to start backing up to this RAID via AFP. The

better to exclude at daemon/server or client
Quick question,
Is there a difference if an --exclude-from (or just plain --exclude) is
specified on the daemon or the client? I'm setting up daemons on each of
my remote servers, and have a host with a RAID connected to it be the
client to pull the data over the network. I'm wondering if there is a
difference in memory usage, speed, etc. by specifying the excluded files

rsync very very slow with multiple instances at the same time.
I create a new thread, because the issue is not really the same, but i copy here the thread that made me jump into the list.
My issue is not really that it waits before starting copying, but a general performance issue, specially when there are multiple rsync running at the same time.
Here is my situation :
I have multiple clients (around 20) with users and i want to rsync their home dirs with

Cloning Centos server with RSync - what to exclude?
Hi all,
I have a few CentOS servers that I want to mirror live, to be standby
spares. The "spare" machines could be either a different machine (with
a different motherboard), or a VM in Vmware server.
I've used rsync in the past, which works well for doing it while the
machine is live. However, I want the destination to be running
different hardware, and have a different IP

rsync preserving symlinks on mirror
Hi!
I am using rsync succesfully to maintain my mirrors.
I have one problem, tho.
To improve speeds of my filesystems, I have created a raid 0
of 4 disks, and I place the most heavily copied disks there.
The fs has subdirectories, one for each set of typically .iso files,
such as Mandrakelinux or fedora. I would like to be able to just do a
symlink from the original tree to the directory on the

Dear Sir or Madam,
Has anyone seen a error message like the following?

many links (31)
rsync: stat "/home/kmiller/briefcase/1205275" failed: No such file or

As far as I can tell, I am not using any symlinks or hardlinks.

There are quite a few compilation warnings from rsync-2.5.5rc1 that
could be eliminated by code cleanup.
gcc -I. -I. -g -O2 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -Wall -W -c main.c -o main.o
main.c: In function `start_client':
main.c:665: warning: unused variable `write_batch'
main.c:664: warning: unused variable `whole_file'
These warnings will go away when the two variables are properly
bracketed
