bootstrap question
Dear r People I have a bootstrap question, please. (this may possibly be a problem with my understanding of the bootstrap) Suppose I have a sample of size 15, x[1], ...x[15]. This is a sample which is small compared to the population. by the way, the x[i] are iid and have a common distribution F. As I understand the bootstrap, that function will take a user specified number of repititions.

Asterisk Users Mailing List Traffic
The volume/traffic on this list has been getting pretty heavy. I find it hard to follow certain discussions and there are some that I am not interested in. Perhaps, we could split the list into two: One for discussing hardware (client phones and cards) and one for the software (configuration, problems, etc...) Or some other better scheme that someone can propose.

UEFI support in Xen
Hi all! I am having troubles with booting Xen with grub2 in UEFI mode. Does Xen support this configuration? Are there any specific settings? _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-users

Encoding from fifo's
Hello, I'm new to the list, so if this is an FAQ, please point me to the relevant docs. I'm playing with Theora, to see what kind of quality I can expect (I realise its not for production use yet). I've download the source from CVS, and got it to build, with the example encoder and player. While trying to find something to serve as a good source of input, I decided I'd use a

avoiding repitition
as my rails application gets bigger, I find I''m writing the same generic specs for standard CRUD operations. with 8 controllers so far, and more to come, I''m keen to reduce the duplication. I asked before about generating specs dynamically in this thread : http://www.nabble.com/dynamic-specs-tf3927280.html#a11137640 but it doesn''t seem possible completely possible.

Windows XP and MP3
if ya' haven't seen it already, check out: http://www.canoe.ca/MoneyWSJ/wsj2-dow.html ad, sad, sad. on many fronts. I don't begin to understand how this might work; I suppose the MP3 degradation only applies to MS encoding software... *shrug* this may, however, provide a good leveraging point for Vorbis. have fun dongoodman

is udev necessary?
Hi all I recently setup a CentOS 5.2 server, running XEN (using HyperVM), and then moved the hard drive from my test box to my Intel server. The problem I now have, is that it doesn't bootup properly. Shortly after I see the udev service started, the machine reboots. This keeps on going the whole time. I have managed to kill udev on start-up (with CTRL + C), and then it boots up. So, do I

Fedora 21 extlinux 6.03 boot failure
Hi, I discovered a very strange situation. I have 22 systems running Fedora 21 (F21) with bundled syslinux-extlinux 6.03. On one of those systems, I am having trouble booting. This machine was upgraded from Fedora 19 (F19), so can boot either the new or the old O/S -- F19 is on one disk partitition, F21 is on another, and there's a shared /boot partition. On this one machine, when I try

[OT?] Strangeness on clients migrating NT -> AD...
Yesterday we have done our first trunk of migration from our Samba4-NT4 domains to our new Samba 4 (2:4.5.12+dfsg-2+deb9u2~bpo8+1) AD domain. Main shares are kept on old server, so we have migrated computers and users (homes and roaming profiles). We have done in the past some tests, without many troubles, so we are confident. Alla computer are Win7 Pro, alla configured in the same way via

SIGUSR1 or SIGINT error
Howdy, We occassionally get the following error when running our nightly backups: rsync error: received SIGUSR1 or SIGINT (code 20) at rsync.c(229) This happens more on one or two machines than on any of the others. We've looked high and low to see if we're mistakenly sending these signals, but nothing is that we can find. Does anyone know what this might be from? Is it the server

Behaviour of 'source' with URLs and proxy
Hi, I am having troubles sourcing a file from our local network from R. It looks like this file are not properly accessed by 'source', even they can be downloaded with download.file. (See below my settings and some tests I did). I ended up with a work around, but I would like to understand what is going on. Doesn't source/readLines uses the same mechanism as download.file to

reboot after dom0 linux boot up
If I (for example) pass a wrong "root=" option to a dom0-linux kernel, it panics. so far, mkay a linux way. Now, different from other panics, there is a counter (of one second!) and then it reboots. I needed to make it panic three times till I could read the error message. Why has that been done this way? _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

Strange issue with device-mapper lib in CentOS
Hello all, a couple of weeks ago I've been installing CentOS 4.2 on a very-old server machine with MSI server board based on Intel GX440 chipset, two Xeons 500Mhz and one 1Gig of RAM. There is an AMI MegaRaid 467 installed as a storage controller, which causes some troubles with installation, as stock CenOS4 install and production kernels doesn't have older megaraid.ko module compiled,

CYGWIN Rsync exclude/include problem
I'm having troubles with getting rsync 2.5.5 (CYGWIN version) to include/exclude files they way I expect it to. I have mulled over the list postings and man pages regarding this and I am either missing something or ... well I don' know. I have a drive with 12 folders in the root however, I only want to rsync 5 of them (the ones marked with an *) and in those 4 I want to exclude certain

how to debug random server reboots
Hi all, One of our CentOS 5.3 randomly reboots, at different times of the day, and I can't see why it's doing it. I have looked through the logs, but don't see any thing in there that shows me why it has rebooted. How can I debug this? Here's a snipped from the log, around the time of the reboot: Jun 2 14:59:59 usaxen02 kernel: EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data

Write-only option
Hi! I am doing backups from a number of machines to an rsync server. For some time I was trying to come up with a solution, which would prevent users from peeking at each other's files, which are backed up. Finally, I've hacked rsync, introducing a new option "write only" for rsyncd.conf. When set to true, this option forbids the transfers from server to the client, thus solving
