incorrect exclude list with -C
I just received this bug report on Debian's rsync package.
I've verified it. The entry from the manpage:
-C [...]
Finally, any file is ignored if it is in the same directory as a
.cvsignore file and matches one of the patterns listed therein.
Here the patterns of a .cvsignore file is apparently used to exclude
file outside the directory where the .cvsignore file is found.

rsync files from Windows 2000 to Solaris 8
Hi,
I was able to rsync files from Windows 2000 to Solaris 8 but when I opened
the text files with vi on solaris, a '^M' char was appended to each line of
the files. My question is how to get rid of that '^M' when rsync'ing ? I
suspect this is because Windows and Unix treat line feed/carriage return
differently, but I just do not want that '^M' shown in the files after

include/exclude bug in rsync 2.6.0/2.6.1pre1
As mentioned on the rsync home page, the --files-from=FILE option in rsync
version 2.6.0 is a useful option that allows one to "specify a list of
files to transfer, and can be much more efficient than a recursive descent
using include/exclude statements (if you know in advance what files you want to
transfer)".
However, --files-from does not help one implement the --rsync-exclude=FILE

OpenSSH 3.4p1's top level .cvsignore file
anyone who can help me understand-
one of my developers reimported openssh snapshot from 0722
into cvs. he sent me the following email about an error he believes
is in the snapshot
i'm not a cvs-knowledgeable person, so i'm not all that
clear on this, but should *.in files be in .cvsignore?
i tried checking a later snapshot, but 0722 seems to be the latest one.
.cvsignore is dated jun

Add a couple .cvsignore files?
It would be nice if the CVS source had a .cvsignore file in the main
dir with the following items:
ssh scp sshd ssh-add ssh-keygen ssh-keyscan ssh-agent sftp-server sftp
configure config.h.in config.h config.status Makefile
ssh_prng_cmds *.out
Plus a .cvsignore file in openbsd-compat that ignored "Makefile".

CR instead of CR/LF
New to Samba, so excuse me if this is a stupid question, but I've searched
the different on line resources and can't find an answer.
When I copy Perl scripts from my Windows 2000 machine to the UNIX Samba
share on that same machine, a CR/LF appears at the end of each line instead
of just the CR, making UNIX unhappy when I go to run those scripts.
Any way to have Samba strip the LF

CR/LF proposal
Hi, I'm new on this list, and just skimmed through the archives,
so I appologize if this has been requested before.
I read in the FAQ that you do not convert.
LF to CR/LF because there is no sure way
of knowing what type of file something is. I could
see that this would cause problems if you converted
a binary file or some other data file.
But what if you assign a directory that would

POP +OK CR LF Question
HI. I just finished installing a new mail server running CentOS Ver 4. and
I am running sendmail with devecot 0.99.11.
Everything is working fine except for a customer of mine is using a tool
that does pop requests. And his tool
is failing waiting on a CR LF in the +OK. I did a small hex dump of my old
pop and the dovecot pop and
he is right. Docevot POP does not end its +OK with a CR LF. I

CR LF in stable
Hello,
It seems that mbox format mailboxes holding \r\n (CR + LF) character
sequences (instead of \n only) still cause assertion failures when
moving messages from one folder to another.

Tracking local changes in CVS
I'm tracking some custom OpenSSH changes (based on 4.3p2) in a local CVS
repository and have run into a few problems... mainly (I believe) because
of the .cvsignore files.
Keep in mind the main idea here is to commit the OpenSSH source without
changes, tag, then add my custom changes and add a new tag. I can
probably fix these by making local modes, but I'm just wondering if there

.rsync-/.rsync+ patch and --link-dest example
This is a patch to add an --rsync-exclude option to rsync-2.5.6cvs.
File names in .rsync- (or .rsync+) are excluded (or included) from the file
lists associated with the current directory and all of its subdirectories.
This has advantages over --cvs-exclude for backing up large file systems
since the .cvsignore files only apply to the current directory:
unless the .cvsignore restrictions apply

rsync problems from flist.c change
On behalf of the development team of R (www.R-project.org), I would like
to report the following problem with recent versions of rsync.
First, some background info. The R Development Core Team uses CVS for
maintainins its source code archive. Additionally, there is a mechanism
for "mirroring" some important (so-called recommended) extension
packages from a CRAN (Comprehensive R

OpenSSH not compliant with RFC 4253? (Protocol Version Exchange string not ending with CR LF)

Exclude sets generated with -C
Hi guys,
I recently stumbled across what I think is an rsync bug. The problem
was I was trying to rsync from one CVS checkout, to another, and was
using rsync -Cavz to do the job. In this CVS module, there happens to
be two sub-directories with the names of "core" and "tags"
respectively, which were ignored, since these names matched the
default CVS ignore list.
When rsync

Per-directory .cvsignore too aggressive
I have noticed that the contents of per-directory .cvsignore files apply
outside their subtrees when using --cvs-exclude in rsync 2.6.0. In the
results below, notice how dir1/.cvsignore is applying to a file in dir2.
There is no ~/.cvsignore, and the CVSIGNORE variable is unset.
% ls -AFR
.:
dir1/ dir2/
./dir1:
.cvsignore file1
./dir2:
file2.foo
% cat dir1/.cvsignore

rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository
I'm rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository to a different machine and I
have a few questions I'm hoping you guys can help me out with.
Should I use --archive? Or maybe -rlD instead?
Can I restrict an SSH key to rsync? I can do it with rdiff-backup
with command="rdiff-backup --server" but I can't figure out how to do
it with rsync.
