CAST5 encryption
Hello all, I was wondering if CAST5 encryption is currently being added the openssh? It's a steller block cipher. No one's found any weaknesses in it yet and it's free for non profit use. pvals.fnc unhappy about lmer objects
Dear folks (or Dear Professor Bates), I'm quite confused as to the current status of some of the available functions applicable to lmer objects. Following the examples in Baayen, Davidson, Bates (2006), my plan is to run mcmcsamp on a random effect model created by lmer in package lme4, then use the (perhaps outdated) pvals to estimate p-value. But then I couldn't find pvals anywhere.

unhappy with aov performance
As the subject says, I am unhappy with R's aov performance. I have a data set containing 25000 cases. This causes thrashing even with very moderate formulae, because the model matrix has quite a lot of lines. The study has 9x3x2x2x2 (or so) design factors. Is there a recommended method for pre-condensing the data before inputting them into aov in R? I want to be able to preserve the person

linux gplots install unhappy
Hello all, I use R on both windows and a "mainframe" linux installation (RedHat enterprise 3.0, which they tell me is soon to be upgraded to 4.0). On windows I installed the package gplots without trouble, and it works fine. When I attempted to do the same on the unix computer, the following error message was forthcoming: downloaded 216Kb * Installing *source* package

metadata in dryrun mode
As I reported a while back rsync doesn't handle metadata (permissions and ownership) in dryrun mode. I offered to make a patch and that offer still stands. I didn't have the time for it until now and want to pick it up again. I had some ugly hack back then but I want to redo it in a clean way. I would like some input on my thoughts. IMHO, it would be ideally if the check for dry_run

move rsync development tree to BitKeeper?
Andrew and I thought it might be an interesting experiment to move rsync to using BitKeeper rather than CVS for source code control. For a project with rsync's size and activity CVS is actually fine, but it would be a nice "toe in the water" with BitKeeper to get some practical experience before possibly using it on larger projects. BK is moderately well-proven on open source

Why would any REMOTE WILDCARD = "No match" ???
Using newest rsync on Mac OS X: Why would THIS work: rsync -avze ssh derek@mydomain.com:/home/derek/digitize.pub ./ But THIS immediately shoot back a "No match" error: rsync -avze ssh derek@mydomain.com:/home/derek/*.pub ./ The 2nd example doesn't even try to log in. Rsync just immediately shoots back this error: rsync: No match. Wildcard DOES work locally: THIS WORKS: rsync

permissions in dryrun mode
I was glad to see a new version of rsync because I though that it was kind of dead. :-) Anyway, I just checked and noticed that the following isn't fixed yet, or is considered a feature. When run in dry-run mode, rsync doesnt report diffs in permissions and ownership. IMHO this is not the expected and wanted behaviour, I want to see exactly what it would do without the '-n'. I have

ownership of authorized_keys
Hi, I would like to make it impossible for users to change the contents of the authorized_keys-file. I just found out about the sshd_config setting: AuthorizedKeysFile /etc/ssh/authorized_keys/%u But even in that case that file has to be owned by the user, unless I set ``StrictModes no'' which would allow other nastyness. I would like to request that that file could also be owned by

OT: grep regex pointer appreciated
Hi, My grep regex foo is not very good and googling is getting me nowhere so hopefully someone is kind enough to give me some pointers. Shorewall 4.5.6 RC 1
Shorewall 4.5.6 RC 1 is now available for testing. Problems corrected since Beta 4: 1) In the generated script, the logic for handling wildcard interfaces with the ''wait=n'' option was incorrect. For each matching interface, the script would check its readiness n times in rapid succession. The script now sleeps 1 second between checks. 2) Previously, the tcrules
