Windows File Permissions
Greetings, I just have a couple of questions. One is related to Samba specifically the second deals with Windows Networking, RSYNC, and Linux in general. I have asked it in the RSYNC mailing list, but so far no one has provided any insight. I apologize if anyone has gone over this information. I have been unable to find much help in the mailing list archives, IRC, or the documentation.

smb_lookup error=-13
I am experiencing an odd problem while attempting to mount and access a directory with smbfs. smbclient does not exhibit the same behavior. I have created a directory /mnt/smb-test and am attempting to mount a volume from a NetApp Filer running OnTap 7 with NTFS security mode. An Active Directory DC handles security for the share. The Linux machine shows as registered in AD and I can use

rsync with delete option creates and deletes dot files
All, I have an rsync based backup process which uses rsyncd on the source, to backup to a directory on the client. I have rsync version 3.1.2 on the client and 2.6.8 on the source host (daemon). The rysnc command I use is; /usr/bin/rsync -aHzS --partial --numeric-ids --delete --timeout=3600 \ --contimeout=180 \ --exclude-from=/path/to/excludelist \

Rsync in daemon mode
Hi, I am a newbie to Rysnc and a had a quick question, the answer for which I wasn't able to find in the documentations. Currently I have Solaris system A which has files that are being generated and changed in real time. I am running rysnc in daemon mode on A.(server) On system B I use the appropriate rysnc command to connect to system A and sync all the files on B. I am having

update rysnc 3.0 on ubuntu 7
I am runninng rsync on Ubuntu. It was installed using apt-get install rysnc. I note that the package has not yet been updated to rysnc 3.0. I would like to update using the tar but I am confused how to update the existing installation. On this machine, I am mainly using rsync to send to a cwrsync server (which I have updated already). Can I just overwrite the rsync executable? Any help

WinXP rsync local copy to USB drive
I've encountered an error while trying to "find" my way to my goal. But first, let me state my goal in case there is a pre-canned solution that does what I want (which would avoid the effort of figuring out the error...): I want to invoke the rsync *client* (but NOT the server) to make a local copy from one windows drive to another. Ie. rysnc -ax /cygdrive/c/path/sourcedir

rsycnc copies all files
Hi I am making an extraordinary claim: rysnc seems to copy all my files, not just ones that have changed or new files. rsync version 2.6.0 protocol version 27 Debian 3.0 Woody I have tested this with one simple file, my example is shown below. Does anyone have any suggestions to rectify this? Regards Gareth example: I create a file called 'testfile' in /tmp/play containing the

RSYNC + iNotify
I'm looking for a way to continually monitor at least one but possibly multiple directories (and/or individual files). I would like RSYNC to immediately synchronize the changes to said directory(ies) after they occur. I believe the best approach for this would be to utilize iNotify enabled kernels and create a plugin for the RSYNC daemon. However, before I begin the task of actually writing

can browse/copy/delete file from samba's shares but can't print
Hi, We installed Linux 8 with Samba 2.2.5-10. Sambe gets the network pc's names and passwords from our PDC-windows NT machine. In samba.cfg we have: security=server password server = xxxxxxxx (ip address of our PDC) We have a printer on that machine and we want to share it in the network. W2000 machines print on that printer without problem. However when we tried to add the printer on

rsync and samba
If anyone has time to look at this problem I would appreciate it. I think I am looking for a way to increase the "timeout" in samba (in the smb.conf file) for reporting a "down" link or "can't read xyz file". However I am writing to you folks because this problem has come up while using rsync my problem ========== We have a wan in which links from a

Use of gmtime() in rsync + multi-thread
Hi, I have a system in which rysnc is being used at multiple times. Since a last 3-4 months we have been observing a crash in rysnc at few instances. I am not able to find out the solution for the same but while debugging the issue in code I found gmtime() being used in "tls.c". It is not suggested to use this function in a multi-threaded environment. Version: rsync 2.6.2

Rsync feature request
I would like to suggest a feature that I believe would help out one usability aspect of rysnc. The patch I am suggesting will allow the rysnc module to return 1 of multiple secrets from the password file, essentially allowing you to check ANY user's (whom belong to a team) secret to see if it matches. For example: For 2 users (user1 and user2) belonging to team1, it would check

Count of files to be transferred
I'm making a GUI for rsync and having some problems getting a reliable indication of the files that will be transferred (so I can make a progress bar from the results). I didn't see rysnc offered this so my plan has been to get a list of files that will be transferred and count them as rsync reports them using the -v option thus getting a ratio I could make a progress bar from. The

rsync is fantastic except for one usual feature we want from it .. please help ?
Hi, Rsync is a fantastic program, and it does everything we need in terms of file transfer and syncing source and destination file directories. We do have a situation now where we need rsync to transfer the files once only from the source directory. Please let me briefly explain using a simple generic exmple: 1. At t0, we transfer f0 location A to location B 2. At t1, 10 new
