Mail delivered, but lost?
Running dovecot 1.2.9 on a Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS virtual machine. Postfix receives messages and hands them over to deliver for local storage. Today two mails came in that could not be found allthough they got delivered. What catches my eye is the "?" in the msgid: Jan 5 21:10:47 mail dovecot: deliver(consulting): msgid=? <14847_1294258245_ZZh0g1h9eLfxL.00_fc2fe6e910f03.4d24de54 at

Problem listing SPECIAL-USE flags
Timo, we want to implement SPECIAL-USE in Thunderbird (TB), but we've run into problems. I believe you could help change that. Here's the problem: By default TB only lists subscribed (LSUB) folders when it accesses an IMAP server. However when I do a LSUB on recent Dovecot 2.1 code from mercurial I don't get to see the SPECIAL-USE flags. Therefore TB fails to identify which folders

Thunderbird supports SPECIAL-USE (Merry x-mas!)
I've waited about two years to write this mail... :) As of Dezember, 24th Mozilla Thunderbird can handle SPECIAL-USE. The patch, which adds the required functionality, has passed review and TBs nightly build was successful. The next official Thunderbird release (version 38, release date 2015-05-19) will very likely ship SPECIAL-USE included. \o/ SPECIAL USE is an IMAP extension. It means

Creating "special" folders?
Is there anyway to make dovecot create Sent, Draft, etc folder automatically? Or is this the job for a MUA? OT: IMAP folder aliases
It seems that there is no standard for folder names that deal with typical message classes such as drafts, outbox, sent, spam etc. At least there's no common sense on a naming convention that tells how client should handle this. Worse than this, most IMAP clients auto-create folders according to their own naming convention if they don't exist. Every client introduces its own view. Users

RFE: IMAP LIST Extension for Special-Use Mailboxes
Timo, would you consider adding support for "IMAP LIST Extension for Special-Use Mailboxes" <http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc6154.txt> any time near in the future? I would really love to get rid of all those folders created by all those different mail clients just because they can't agree to use the same folder for special purpose. Obviously clients need to support it too.

dovecot lda & sieve: resubmit folder for resieving
Hi, I'm currently restructuring my mail archives and migrated from a decade and a half old procmail supported solution to sieve. While doing so I often found that I'd like to filter a bunch of messages (with "bunch" in the area of 1-10K) with my shiny new sieve script. I found in the wiki a way to do that: http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/RefilterMail And it works well, it picks

Special Folder Mocking
Dear Dovecot List, probably everyone knows the problem that different clients use different names for "Sent", "Trash" and so on. A simple question: Isn't it possible to advertise one imap folder with different names, depending on the client? E.g. if the client is Outlook, show the "Sent" folder as "Sent Elements" (translated from german) and if the

Questions about SPECIAL-USE IMAP extension
I'd like to configure my dovecot service to use the IMAP SPECIAL-USE extension, but have a few questions for those who have used them, or are knowledgable about its use. Using this configuration as an example, namespace { ... mailbox xxx { special_use = \Sent } } Q1) Am I correct that mail client that don't understand SPECIAL-USE extentions will behave the same way with

Folder layout after Cyrus to Dovecot migration
# dovecot --version 1.2.15 We're trying to migrate a server from Cyrus to Dovecot, and we're mostly there. On Cyrus, the folder layout in the MUA is: INBOX subfolder subfolder ... IMAP-Proxy and LDAP?
I am doing some research on Dovecots IMAP-Proxy features mentioned in <http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/ImapProxy> and <http://wiki.dovecot.org/PasswordDatabase/ExtraFields/Proxy>. The docs only mention SQL as backend to hold required data. Is it also possible to use LDAP? TIA, p at rick -- state of mind Agentur f?r Kommunikation, Design und Softwareentwicklung Patrick Koetter

Dovecot CalDAV server
I've been once in a while over the years thinking about implementing CalDAV (and CardDAV) to Dovecot. It might be time to start that soon. Does anyone have any suggestions? So far my main goals would be: - scalable, of course - configurable storage (object storage, regular fs, maybe some key-value dbs, maybe storing as emails) - efficient indexes (potentially using key-value dbs? or maybe
