nfs4 problem in CENTOS6
Hi, This is slightly offtopic, but I have been trying to resolve that problem for two days now without much success. It looks like this may be something that works with CENTOS5, but not with CENTOS6! I have two machines, fileserver1 and server5. fileserver1 runs on CENTOS6 (virtualized, if this is important), server5 runs on Centos5. Both are running with the most recent updates. Server5 is a

Centos 5.7--desktop icons are now a blank sheet of paper with the .desktop filename and they don't work
Just rebooted my box (switched keyboards, and since it's a PS/2 keyboard, it needs to be done at poweroff) and when it came back up, (almost) all the desktop icons I've created (as distinct from the ones that came with the system) now don't display correctly. Instead of the graphic assigned to each, it's just a picture of a blank sheet of paper with the corner folded over, and the

CentOS-6.0 Continuous Release ( CR ) repository
I don't really understand the function of this repository, or rather why the RPMs in it are not in the standard repository? I read the outline at <http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/CR>, and added the repository on two CentOS machines. On yum-updating some 450MB of updates were installed. Both machines appear to be running perfectly well. -- Timothy Murphy

Call supplicant on link detection
Dear all, I have a working 802.1x structure with a bunch of Cisco switches, and a couple of NPS RADIUS servers. 802.1x auhtentication with MSCHAPv2 is working with Windows clients and I need to get some Centos clients into the structure. I've been using wpa_supplicant and now it would be usefull to have an auto start script when the interface detects a link and call the supplicant to

"Overlay" Filesystem Mounts?
Greetings- Is it possible to mount multiple block devices (or network devices over NFS/CIFS) such that the contents of the mounts appear in one location? For example, lets say I have these shares available: \\server1\volume1\ \\server1\volume2\ \\server1\volume3\ All three contain a directory called data, with different subdirectories. Typically, these would be mounted like so: mount

Difference in gnome between centos <> fedora
Hello, I've on my home PC CentOS 6 and Fedora 13 on different disks. When I log on the gnome enviroment at Fedora knows exactly which programm was started at which desktop (for example: thunderbird on desktop 1, firefox on desktop 2, nautilus on desktop 3, ..). The same procedure on Centos takes all programs on the first desktop, so I must arrange the programs on the right desktop.

iso size?
I've been being told, over and over, by K3B, Brasero, and Isomaster, on two machines, with three different downloads of 6.0, that the file is too large for the medium. Nautilus and the browser that die each download all say it's 4.4 GB; I've tried with two +R and an RW DVD, all of which are labelled 4.7 GB Two of the files are 32-bit, and one is 64 What is going wrong?? --

libguestfs-winsupport package for CentOS-6
Is this available for CentOS and if so then where is this package located? CentOS 6, yum-updatesd
Back in the Fedora docs I found on a google, it mentions that in FC6, the preferred tool for updates was the "new" yum-updatesd. Anyone know: a) what theological reason upstream had to drop it altogether, and b) what's the recommended replacement - is it yum-cron? I hand-update some servers, and of course users' workstations, but some system, like home directory servers and

Can't run fail2ban 0.8.4 [CentOS 6]
Hi, To begin I'm sorry for my poor English level, that's not my first language. On CentOS 6 I've installed fail2ban 0.8.4 from EPEL repository. I've configured it with this page : http://centoshelp.org/security/fail2ban/ Then I've tried this command : chkconfig --level 23 fail2ban on && service fail2ban start but the output says it fallen, nothing more. checking package versions in various releases
Hey folks, I am sure there must be an easy way to do this. I am currently running 5.3 and "yum info db4" tells me that they have version 4.3.29. Is that telling me that this is the version in 5.3? Or that this is the latest version in the 5.x stream? If the former, then how do I find out what release of the db4 software (sleepcat berkeley db) is in 5.7? I don't want to

What replaces /sbin/hotplug in CentOS 5?
What subsystem replaces /sbin/hotplug in CentOS 5? The older hotplug package is missing from CentOS 5 and /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug yields an empty string. Since hotpluging for standard devices still seems to work, I presume that something replaces the hotplug helper found on CentOS 4. Can someone point me in the right place? All of my Googleing points me back to the (obsolete?) /sbin/hotplug

Misterious hang
Hi all, Recently one my Centos 5.7 VM just crashes at least once a day randomly (hang). In /var/log/messages there is nothing at all that there is problem (no error, no failure). The log just stops. The only change I did before this crashes is I activated LDAP authentication, and also auditd. But I don't see any evidence relating to it. Any clue where to look for the cause? Thank you.
