disk io in guests causes soft lockups in guests and host processes
Hi,
I have a strange phenomenon that I cannot readily explain so I wonder if
anyone here can shed a light on this.
The host system is a Dell r815 with 64 cores and 256G ram and has centos
6 installed. The five guests are also running centos 6 and are running
as a hadoop cluster. The problem is that I see disk-io spikes in the
vm's which then cause soft lockups in the guest but I also see

I'm running a VM using libvirt+KVM and I have a disk performance issue.
The host is the following:

The guest:
1 CPU, 2 GB RAM running Debian 7.0, image in compressed qcow2 format.
When I try do run "dd if=/dev/zero of=io.test bs=32768k count=40" I get

distributed thinlto usage
I am trying to work through the usage of thinlto for distributed builds.
Here is the simple thinlto usage, just add -flto=thin everywhere, easy:
clang++ -flto=thin -O3 -c -o CreateWay_.o -DSPEC_CPU -DNDEBUG -DSPEC_CPU_LITTLE_ENDIAN -Wno-dangling-else CreateWay_.cpp
clang++ -flto=thin -O3 -c -o Places_.o -DSPEC_CPU -DNDEBUG -DSPEC_CPU_LITTLE_ENDIAN

distributed thinlto usage
Thanks Teresa
Yes it is astar, happen to send a tar of the sources but they are just copies from the spec distribution
The ld command is:
GNU ld (GNU Binutils) 2.29.1
Thanks for the guidance on path names. The prefix-replace just effects the string written to the object files right? So we could post-process that file with other tools as well, correct?
Thanks again

FYA (for your amusement)
Well, we knew the 'Net was invented solely for cute cat pictures. Now I
have proof that selinux is part of that conspiracy. From dmesg, on one of
my servers:
[ 3366.091561] SELinux: 8 users, 14 roles, 5031 types, 316 bools, 1 sens,
1024 cats

PSTN Incoming call on real line disrupts VoIP call over DSL circuit
I haven't seen anything this strange, and it's 100% reproducible. I'm
hoping that there are some clever ideas out there for what to look for,
since I can test to my heart's desire on this one...
My Dad lives in Florida, and has a Bellsouth DSL line. Of course, he has
a regular POTS line connected on the same line. He has the appropriate
filters on every jack that has a phone

Does anyone know where I could find a good explanation of how rails works internally?
I was wondering if anyone knew of some resources I could look at to
learn about how rails works internally. I''ve been looking through the
code but I was wondering if there were any high level explanations of
how it works overall.
Thanks in advance,
Ruben

How can I read date format '02-Jan-02' ?
Hello,
I am trying to read a database exported from SAS.
It is form of csv, and the date format reads '02-Feb-99'.
I used following code to convert character to date format,
db$dob<-as.Date(db$dob, format="%d-%b-%y").
but it doesn't work, only seems NA.
What's wrong with this code?
Thank you in advance.
Best,
Dong-Hee Koh

Computing 'exp(1e3)*0' correctly....
I have some trouble to deal the value of 'NaN'. For example,
> exp(1e3)
[1] Inf
> exp(1e3)*0
[1] NaN
The correct answer should be 0 rather than NaN. I will very appreciate
if anyone can share some technique to get a correct answer.

Re: New Standard/Daylight time-change dates in rhel4u2 butnot centos4.2?
The laws already exist:
Disturbing the peace,
Misappropriation of public funds,
Prohibition on unfunded mandates.
What's lacking is prosecutors, judges, and juries who
see the politicians as getting in the way of the
statesmen and the people.
To drag this back towards On Topic, it seems to me
that the ntp folks might be petitioned to write up and
submit to the Congress, a paper

Error Installing Package with Dependency on "Matrix"
I'm attempting to update to R 2.15.1, and I'm having trouble with a package
that depends on the "Matrix" package. I've created a dummy package
consisting only of a DESCRIPTION file that specifies the dependence on
"Matrix", a NAMESPACE file, and an R directory, containing a single
function, "square <- function(x) { return (x*x) }". When I try to

[OT] Overview of Homer installation on Debian Stretch
Hello,
I've discovered homer-api-postgresql and homer-api-mysql packages in
Stretch repo.
I'm not sure I understand how Homer-API relates to Homer.
My questions are:
1. What is the simplest available installation option to install Homer on a
dedicated box, this dedicated box gathering data from one or several
Asterisk systems on the same LAN ?
2. Is it possible to centralize data on a

Hi,
I was wondering if someone had any thoughts as to why "preexec" doesn't fire when "msdfs proxy" is used?
Thank you,

And that would get you a /24 network
And I also thought wrong, yes the name is wrong, but it should have been
