gwenview WITHOUT nepomuk
Does anyone know how to make gwenview *not* try to use nepomuk? I liked it
under 5.x, but in 6.x it *constantly* complains about things like tagging
is not enabled... but won't open, when I log in, with gwenview running and
showing the same picture I'd logged out on. Then there are the random
crashes....
Don't need a "semantic" desktop, I know what things are, where they

Weird update problem
For some time now updates on my CentOS box had skipped exiv2. Yesterday I
decided to do something about it, so I removed it - together with gwenview,
digikam and, IIRC, libexiv2. That sounded reasonable, so I accepted the
removal, then re-installed gwenview and digikam, which, of course, pulled in
the two exiv2 packages. The version number of exiv2 sounded familiar, but I
assumed that it

picture viewers
Ok, I give up. After the last month or so, gwenview takes literally five
minutes or so to come up, gagging because I have nepomuk turned off in
kde. Today, it just will not come up at all, even trying gwenview pic.jpg.
Are there any other ->light weight<- image viewers in the standard
repositories, including epel? I DO NOT WANT OR NEED a "semantic desktop"

Open With "A Wine Application": a ridiculous amount of trash
How do I remove all the "A Wine Application" entries (http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/1413/winetrash.png) from gnome's Open With > Add Application dialog?
As well, for almost every file type I had when wine started doing this, there's an entry in gnome's right-click menu (http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4291/winejunk.png) to open with "A Wine Application".

Multiple copies of MS Office Programs
Hello,
This isn't a huge problem, but it is a little annoying. When I right click a ms office file (such as a .ppt, or .doc) and try to open the file in with Wine it lists 4 or 5 copies of either powerpoint or word. Has anyone ever encountered this and if you have any help getting rid of it would be appreciated. I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
Thank you for any help,
John

Stopping "Open with" menu items from being created by wine
How do I stop "A Wine Application" from being added (sometimes multiple times) to my desktop environment's "Open With" menus? This is very annoying and I never want these items added for any file type. I really do not want to have to remove them after they're created, either. The few file types that I want opened by a wine program, I have added an appropriate menu

Question concerning creating .exe shorcuts.
Hey guys,
I was curious about something. When Wine installs a program, that creates a shortcut after installation, it is usually placed on the desktop (as it would in Windows).
So how I can create the same type of shortcut which will use the .exe's inbuilt icon; as Wine does? I know how to create a shortcut but i'd manually need to search for a .png file to use as that shortcuts icon.

CentOS for non-tech user
I'm thinking of giving CentOS to a non-tech user for her new desktop. He
needs are small. She has been used to Mozilla for both mail and browsing, so
equivalents there are not a problem. She needs grip and lame, for her mp3s -
again no problem. In fact the only problem I can see is that gwenview doesn't
appear to have the kipi-plugins. I can see libkipi listed, but no plugins,

Wine and Gnome menus...
Hi all,
I've spent several days tinkering with Wine and have uncovered what seems to be a mess: Menus in Gnome for Wine applications...
I'm running Debian 4.0 (Etch) with a few backports, and Gnome 2.14.3.
I've progressed from the version of Wine that's in the Etch repositories, 0.9.25-2.1, through the one in backports, 1.0-rc1-1, to the current 1.1.1 from the WineHQ

problems with windows-lnk-files
hello,
on Windows XP I created some directories and files - and some links
(.lnk-files) to files and directories and saved them on a ntfs-disk.
Now I want to use it in Debian (testing, Gnome) but the links won't work.
When working in Nautilus 2.26..3 there just a little window appears
telling me, that there is no application installed to view this file. If

How does Wine extract icons?
I've researched on Google, Wine's wikki and Wine's forum, but I did not find how exactly does Wine to extract the icons from the exe binaries. The only thing that I've found are mentions to third party programs, but anything about Wine itself. May anyone bring some light about the subject?
Thanks.

From a newbie: how to run MS Word?
Hi!
Half an hour ago I installed wine-20041201 under Mandrake Linux 9.1,
successfully I think.
On my PC I also have a partition with Windows 98 in it, correctly mounted.
I installed Wine with the main purpose of properly writing and reading documents
in MS Word, since neither kword, nor Open Office kwrite nor even abiword
achieve this purpose in a satisfaying way.
Now, probably I haven't

Hello Producers
"Longevity of Support" is an attractive drawcard for CentOS if it means
the exact opposite of Fedora's "short support cycle" that does not
provide updating of infrastructural libraries for very long, libraries
which newer versions of applications (like Firefox, Thunderbird, Opera
etc) depend on and which wont install unless the libraries are also

Cannot switch between excel files
I have recently installed MS Office 2007 in Wine 1.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit
I have noticed that I cannot switch between two excel workbooks. I can either work on only one excel at a time or do a lot of jugglery to switch between the two.
It will be great if anyone can give me a solution as I need to work on multiple excels most of the time.
Thanks
