ANN: Interactive Fiction Mapper v0.5
Okay, I may have some questions about fxruby and probably the easiest way to ask them is by after I show a program. Plus I am eager to show how much fun I''ve been having... this is still not fully done to call it a v1.0 release, but it is already tons of fun. Please visit the download section of: http://rubyforge.org/projects/ifmapper/ There you will find the following: IFMapper by

extracting the i-th row of a matrix in a list of lists
Hi, what is the proper of of "passing a missing value" so I can extract the entire i-th row of a matrix (in a list of lists) without pre-computing the number of cols? For example, if I know that the matrices have 2 columns, I can do the following: set.seed(1) x0 <- lapply(1:10, function(i) replicate(4, list(matrix(rnorm(10), nc=2)))) lapply(lapply(x0, '[[', 3), '[',

It always helps to check whether you got the data into R correctly. Hint: What does str(credit) tell you? RE: Shorewall 1.46b; new configs--command not found? << struck wi th stupidity
I had a 2-day lapse in brain function apparently. Discovered that even though UltraEdit-32 says its editing/saving in UNIX mode, it is not 100% true. Ran my new configs through dos2unix and bam...no more error message. Please excuse my previous post (I always seem to do that...) and sorry about the junk. Levi Masterson

Access Samba Servers from th
DrTebi, I would setup a VPN (Which is outside the scope of this list) tunnel into your machine running Samba. Then you could use Samba as though you were locally connected to the network the Samba server is living on. Other then that, I wouldn't recommend using Samba connected directly to the internet. Of course, that is based upon my limited knowledge of Samba and network

applying permissions to subdirectories using setgid doesn't do th e trick... :(
Dear list. I have a problem that I cannot seem to get rid of. I have a directory/share (on linux) called "smb" containing four subdirectories. This directory will be 'exported' using samba.I would like to have different permissions on the different subdirectories. This works, except for this one directory (called temp) that I want to be read/write for everybody. Using force

hc2Newick is different than th hclust dendrogram
Hi R helpers... I am having troubles because of the discrepancy between the dendrogram plotted from hclust and what is wrote in the hc2Newick file. I've got a matrix C: > hc <- hclust(dist(C)) > plot(hc) with the: > write(hc2Newick(hc),file='test.newick') both things draw completely different "trees"... I have also tried with the raw distance matrix D and

EXT3 with 2.2.20 - Is it stable enough for a production server th at is used 24X7?
Hello All, I have a production server that is running 2.2.20. This server *has* to be up 24X7 - what I'm wondering is: 1) Is ext3 on 2.2.20 rock stable? Or, would you recommend that I just stay with ext2? 2) I have looked far and wide for a the ext3 patch for 2.2.20 - where can I find it? 3) Were are the e2fsprogs that are appropriate to run with the 2.2.X kernel series? Thanks,

help with executing instruction every i-th run of loop
I am running a very long loop and would like to save intermediate results in case of a system or program crash. Here is the skeleton of what my code would be: for (i in 1:zillion) { results[[i]]<-do.something.function() if (logical.test(i)) {save(results, "results.tmp")} } logical.test would test to see if i/1000 has no remainder. What R function would test that?
