Strange behavior in X, esp. VMWare Windows
Last Thursday, for some reason (possibly a power failure), my work desktop had a different video configuration than when I left Wednesday evening. I have two 17" flat panels configured as a two-head wide (side-by-side) single display. When I arrived on Thu, I had two individual desktops instead, the resolution was down to 800x600, and so on. The monitor type had been reset to generic

Wine is hosed on my Ubuntu Edgy install. It was working fine on Dapper, and I'm not sure if I tested Wine since upgrading to Edgy last month. Anyway, no matter what I try to run I get something like this (running notepad in this example) and the program fails to launch: $ notepad wine: creating configuration directory '/home/dit/.wine'... OpenGL issues in Wine 32bit on Debian 64bit
Hey there, I tried to build me a 32bit Wine on my Debian Squeeze system today, all worked relatively fine, however now I am running into problems: I have installed Steam and downloaded Team Fortress 2. The download and all worked nicely, but when I now try to start the game, it just shows the dialog with like "Starting Team Fortress 2...", which then proceeds to disappear, doing nothing

Wine unable to find DX9 / driver version?
I updated wine to latest git (wine-1.1.26-390-g31dab8f) and upgraded my nvidia drivers to 190.18. When I attempted to test some of the DX9 and 10 games I usually test, none of them seem to be able to recognize either my DX version or the drivers. I suspect that the drivers are the issue. Here is a relevant example from a test for Assassins Creed. xavier at xavier-pc

Problems with Directx
Ever since 1.1.27, I've been having problems with what I think is directx. I updated to 1.1.29 (I skipped .28) and I still get the same errors. I've tried using winetricks to install Directx9, but it doesn't do much to alleviate the problem. I've completely deleted my .wine folder and reinstalled 1.1.29 from scratch, but I still get the problem. I have the latest nVidia drivers

CentOS 5 dual head doesn't work
I just bit the bullet and installed CentOS 5 on my work desktop, and although I have two monitors and a card that supports them, I cannot get the display configuration to work with both as a continuous (spanning) desktop. I have tried using the correct (autodetected) monitor type (digital and analog), a generic LCD with 1280x1024, nothing works. Every time I set the configuration, the X server
