How to set up R for Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo
I just recently purchased a Macbook Pro, Intel Core Duo 2GHz, 512 MB RAM.
After looking through several articles in this forum I found the link to the
R Mac Wiki. I am not that tech-savy but it appeared to me that this link,
http://wiki.urbanek.info/index.cgi?IntelMacR
describes how to install R on a Intel Mac Core Duo to utilise the two cores.
I have also downloaded and installed the

AppdB and Bugzilla suggestion
Video acceleration is an essential aspect of personal computers now, and it's becoming more important every day. Not only for games, but also for most modern OS interfaces, video decoding and all kinds of applications are depending on it now.
So, I think both AppDB and Bugzilla should have 2 aditional dropboxes when reporting test data and bugs : one for the video card manufacturer (Nividia,

[LLVMdev] Changing target features from C++
Hi all,
How do I properly/conveniently change ISA features of the code to be
generated? For instance I have a Core 2 Duo with SSSE3 but I'd also like to
test whether everything would JIT compile correctly on something with just
SSE2 (a Pentium 4) or even older. In other words, how do I prevent LLVM from
using certain target features?
Thanks,
Nicolas Capens

Very slow disk performance on CentOS 4.5
I recently moved my CentOS 4.5 disk from a Lenovo ThinkCentre M52
(3.2 GHz Pentium 4) to a Lenovo ThinkCentre M55 (3.4 GHz Core 2
Duo). I had to install the SMP kernel, but other than that
everything just worked. I did have an issue with accidentally
initializing my /boot partition, but that was my own fault.
But the system was not feeling right. Some things just seemed to be
slower,

Performance Issues Degradation After 6 Calls
I am using Asterisk and A2billing Calling Card Platform and after the 6th
call the quality starts to degrade. The way it set up is the user calls into
the system then dial out so I have 12 channels being used up but 6 active
calls. Here are my specs Asterisk SVN-branch-1.4-r79142 on a i686 running

Hardware compatibility - Dell Inspiron 6400 or thinkpad t60?
Hi,
Since a while I am curious to buy a machine with hardware virtualization
support. Finally, they start to become available here in Germany.
So, I want to get such a machine. I want to buy a dell inspiron 6400 or
an IBM thinkpad T60 which are said to have such a mobile processor with
hardware virtualization - does anybody have experiences with these?

Error cannot allocate vector of size...
Hello,
I have a memory problem when I run package WinBUGS with R (2.6.1).
Until now I have been using a Pentium IV 3.2Ghz computer with 512Mb of
RAM memory (with Windows XP Pro SP2), and I hadn't had any problem.
Now I have a new computer with the following characteristics: Intel
Core 2 duo 2.33Ghz and 3Gb of RAM memory (with Windows XP Pro SP2) and
when I am running the same R syntax I

Speed up R
Dear R Users,
I hope that there is someone who has an experience with a problem that I
describe below and will help me.
I must buy new desktop computer and I'm wondering which processor to choose
if my only aim is to speed up R. I would like to reduce a simulation time -
sometimes it takes days. I consider buying one of them (I'm working under
Win XP 32 bit):

SimCity 4 + RH easily crashes with addons and heavy city.
Hello.
First, thank you a lot for Wine. It is really a fabulous project and ex windows users like me really say you thanks a lot each time we use Wine.
Second, I have installed SimCity 4 (with the help of PlayOnLinux) and its expansion pack Rush Hour. Many things worked quite well. I would say this game almost works well. But here are my issues :

I run a IBM PC compatible with a Pentium IV with 2,4 MHz and 512 Mb RAM and a 80 Gb fast disk und Windows XP home edition.
I downloaded rw1071.exe from cran.at and cran twice.
When I tried to open rw1071.exe I choose the option to install all R reference materials as well and then after some 10 seconds I get an error message

Very low FPS in Wine/Ubuntu vs WindowsXP
New on Linux and Wine. I like most of what I see. Here is one problem I don't understand. I run dualboot Windows XP / Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx with Wine 1.3.6. Graphics - GeForce 9500 GT with Linux driver 195.36.24
Tested World of Warcraft and compared framerates in XP vs Ubuntu/Wine. With all parameters the same (same Config.wtf file with OpenGL set), same in-game options, same character,

How accurate is show translation?
Hi all,
I'm using 'show translation' to help dimension my system, but I confused
by the results I get. My 2 test systems (results below): an AthlonXP
2000+ (1.3GHz) and a Pentium D930 (duo-core, 3.0GHz) produced similar
results (D930 is slightly faster). Googling shows that others have
similar results running on other CPU speeds >2.0GHz.
At first glance, it would look like the

I want to be able to use a late-model video card with either Nvidia or
ATI (AMD) chips that have the capability to use the GPU for numeric

I can't find any good source for hardware that really works under
Linux, not to speak of Centos. I need a specific model and brand that
a user has successfully been able to use the proprietary driver for

Milestone: 1000 packages on CRAN as of today(?)
Hi,
I was just looking at the "CRAN Daily Package Check Results"
[http://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/checkSummary.html], and
realized there are 1000 packages on CRAN as of today (look at row 3 in
the table below). Yet another quite extraordinary milestone in R
history.

Using readBin to read binary "unformatted" output files from Fortran?
Hello,
I'm wondering if I can get some help with reading Fortran binary "unformatted" output files into R.
The Fortran output files were generated in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using gfortran4.4, on a 32bit Intel Core 2 Duo 3.16 GHz machine, with little-endian and record marker lengths equal to 4.
The machine I'm currently trying to read this Fortran output file is a Macbook Pro

Fwd: Nouveau Drivers for iMac 24" (GeForce 7600 GT)
Bonjour Everyone!
I am trying to get the video working on an iMac 24" Core 2 Duo with an
integrated GeForce 7600 GT.
The installation disk I am using (Ubuntu Trusty Tahir 14.04.5 LTS modified
for the mac) loads nouveau and tries to use the 304 drivers, but fails.
The story of the problem is documented here, but not the solution (yet)
