[Nouveau] Fwd: Nouveau Drivers for iMac 24" (GeForce 7600 GT)
Bonjour Everyone! I am trying to get the video working on an iMac 24" Core 2 Duo with an integrated GeForce 7600 GT. The installation disk I am using (Ubuntu Trusty Tahir 14.04.5 LTS modified for the mac) loads nouveau and tries to use the 304 drivers, but fails. The story of the problem is documented here, but not the solution (yet) http://mymanthemaker.blogspot.hk/2017/03/imac-ubuntu- install-gone-wrong-install.html When I boot the machine, in the end, this is what I see: [image: Inline image 1] I have tried a LOT of different approaches, including trying to disable the nouveau kernel module and installing the following proprietary NVIDIA driver: NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-304.135.run But I have had no luck at all. Before anyone asks me if the video card is messed up, I have seen proper "graphics" displayed on this machine before, sometimes during boot: [image: Inline image 2] And I ONCE in a user session got a proper video screen with "xinit" that provided me with an old-school xterm and the classic "cross" mouse cursor. But when I moved the mouse, or when I stared "xeyes", the machine froze. How can I get some help with troubleshooting this problem? The dmesg errors I am seeing are: [ 642.016069] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: DRM: Calling LVDS script 6: [ 642.016075] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: DRM: 0xC165: Parsing digital output script table (this is a unique entry) [ 8.978307] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: CACHE_ERROR - ch 0 [DRM] subc 3 mthd 0d94 data ffffffff [ 8.978323] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: CACHE_ERROR - ch 0 [DRM] subc 3 mthd 0d98 data ffffffff [ 8.981130] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: CACHE_ERROR - ch 0 [DRM] subc 3 mthd 0d9c data ffffffff [ 8.983911] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: CACHE_ERROR - ch 0 [DRM] subc 3 mthd 0da0 data ffffffff (thousands of the above are in my dmesg log) Also, I don't know if the GeForce 7600 GT uses "low memory" but I am getting the following error: [ 66.016047] Corrupted low memory at ffff8800000019c0 (19c0 phys) 4f000000 [ 66.016932] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [ 66.016941] WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 110 at /build/linux-lts-xenial- gUF4JR/linux-lts-xenial-4.4.0/arch/x86/kernel/check.c:141 check_for_bios_corruption+0x103/0x110() [ 66.016942] Memory corruption detected in low memory When I execute "startx", this is what I currently see in the terminal window: root at sentinel:~/NVIDIA# startx hostname: Name or service not known xauth: (stdin):1: bad display name "sentinel:0" in "add" command X.Org X Server 1.18.3 Release Date: 2016-04-04 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 3.13.0-92-generic x86_64 Ubuntu Current Operating System: Linux sentinel 4.4.0-31-generic #50~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 13 01:07:32 UTC 2016 x86_64 Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-31-generic root=UUID=7cf8c703-124e-4030-8a7a-7146c5ff622d ro text quiet splash text Build Date: 03 August 2016 12:15:46PM xorg-server 2:1.18.3-1ubuntu2.2~trusty2 (For technical support please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support) Current version of pixman: 0.30.2 Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version.
