Portal sound doesn't work
I recently downloaded Steam and installed the game Portal, but the sound does not work in the game. Sound does sometimes work at startup and at the game menu, but never in the game itself. Can anyone think of a solution to this problem.

dialplan game
Has anyone built a game with the dialplan? I would think this would
most easily be managed by an AGI, but its possible with realtime
extensions.
The game would be like 'adventure' that I first played on a prime in
1979. Or any of the infocom games (ie zork). Infact since the infocom
spec is known it might be possible to plug in the data files directly
from an AGI.
If anyone has done

Wine 1.1.10
Ubuntu 8.04
I downloaded the trial version of UltraISO from http://www.download.com/UltraISO-Premium/3000-2646_4-10177302.html
I need this to make a bin/cue image for an old DOS game, as no Linux program seems to be able to. (If someone can recommend me a substitue, that would be fantastic too)
Anywho, It installed perfectly and runs fine. It can find my CD drive and can read the

Runaway: A Road Adventure
Has anyone gotten this game to run in Ubuntu 8.04? If so, how did you get it to work? When I try to run the game in a terminal, I get this error "Resource\Resource.000". Is there any special libraries you need in the Wine Configurations?

General Alawar games issue
See bug 23374. Originally, this was an issue raised for one particular game. But my experiences with other games from the same company indicate that this may be a more widespread problem for their games.
The original poster tried one of their "Strange Cases" games. I've tried a "Natalie Brooks" and an "Alabama Smith" adventure. Each keeps coming up with the

Tierra games...
Hi,
I found these remakes of old Sierra games at
http://www.tierraentertainment.com/
They run on an windows adventure game
engine AGS found at http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk
Due to the engine author's reclutance for helping linux people, the only
solutions seems to be using wine to get these ancient-but-excellent games
running.
So far they have made King's Quest 1 VGA and

Running the game "Memento Mori" - "Windows Media Video..."
Another day, another game.
I mounted the image of a game called "Memento Mori", a german adventure game.
The installer was not exactly working perfect ("please enter (...) in .ini or something" where the name of the game, the installation folder etc. normally stands), but it worked.
Even the game seemed to start at first, but after a few seconds it crashes.
The error message

No Sound while playing games
Hi all
I have been getting this really crazy problem while
using wine. My wine version is 20050111. Last night I
installed warcraft III and the games graphics and
sound worked perfectly, no hassles at all. Today when
I restarted the game there was no sound. I fiddled
around in the [WinMM] section of the config but
couldnt get the sound back.
Today I installed Soldiers of Fortune. Played the game

Sound skips in all games since Wine 1.1.6
In 1.1.5 the sound/music in games played allright. Since 1.1.6 it skips badly - plays for a couple of seconds, then stops for half a second, then plays again, then skips and so on. Happens on every game on Steam - Team Fortress 2, Everyday Shooter, Peggle Extreme - and also without Steam - Icy Tower.
I have Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card. I've found that in Winecfg when I choose Alsa driver

Could not load 'SOUND.DLL' required by 'sierrawh', error=2
Hello list,
I'm trying to get some old windows Win95/98 games to run without too
much luck. This example is a Sierra Hoyle Classic Games CD from 1998,
which should be enough to keep my wife happy without having to reboot my
computer back into windows...if I can get it to work. The installer
itself runs fine, and even plays a sample sound clip to test the sound
before installing. After

Problem running BBC Doctor Who game in Linux Mint Debian
Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 Laptop running 64bit Linux Mint Debian Edition 201109.
The laptop has ATI Radeon M92 (HD 4500 / 5000) graphics.
This is based on Debian testing and because at present there is no WINE in the testing repositories, I have installed 1.3.30 from:
http://frickelplatz.de/debian/
This seems to work fine: I can run LTspiceIV perfectly.
However ...

Sound starts but drops out on game.
There is a 2d mmorpg that I play that is a spin off of Endless Online. When running this program with Wine, I have a couple of sound problems. First, it will only play one sound at a time from the game, and two, the sound drops out completely after a few sounds try to play at the same time. I've tried a bunch of different settings with the same results. I ran the game from the command line

Problems with Fear 2 Project Origin
Hi guys I have taken a rather long strange trip through linux, jumping from one distro to another and I've settled on Arch Linux. Anyway I seem to have a problem with Fear 2. I cannot get the sound to work. It works during the first two logo videos when you start the game, but will not work afterward. I have several other games all through Steam that work fine but this game has sound issues. I

I'm sure that this has been asked and answered already, but I can't find it.
I have been able to get wine to run Freddi Fish 3 for my daughter but
after starting up, showing the splash screen and starting the game, the
game dies with the error... "Cannot get the sound card driver to accept
the sound clip" or something along those lines. The strange thing is
