rgl, openmesa, nvidia. Oh my!
I've caused a new problem for myself. I wonder if you have seen it.
On Ubuntu 9.04 I had a lot of hangs with the nvidia packages and so I
updated to the 185 edition on this website:
https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppa
The video drivers are much better! However, I notice now I don't have
all of the working pieces of the X11/openGL development toolkit in
order to compile R

Low Framerate in Oblivion
I've been getting max 10 FPS in Oblivion, even with extremely low graphics settings. Any ideas why? I didn't have any problems with running Oblivion on Windows, and even for Wine this seems quite low. I think it might be my graphics card drivers possibly.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic
GPU: nVidia 8600M GT

Getting SimCity 3000 to work in wine
Ok for some reason all the newer wine versions have a broken D3D_Surface that prevents SimCity 3000 from even starting well here is the trick I did to get it to work for me.
I used the Wine version 0.9.14 for Ubuntu instead of using the newer version and it works great.
Although I had to download a few extra dependencies to get that version of wine to work.
I remember when I could get SimCity

Strange comment on wine output running SimCity 4
This line, obviously emitted during program start up, has me puzzled, but then a lot of things confound me.
[code]
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16
[/code]
Now I realize this is not very important and that the correction for it has been put off for a reason, but since the game is set to run in 32 BPP, why is there even a thought of changing to 16

SimCity 4 Deluxe's Building Architect Tool and friends
In my tests of gmax, I downloaded and installed the Building Architect Tool (BAT) for SimCity 4 Deluxe along with the associated Plugin Editor and the Lot Editor.
With the exception of reported problems with gmax, all of these execute properly when called. Until we solve the gmax problem, we won't know if the program suite works cohesively.
This is just a status note for anyone interested.

SimCity doesn't want to install
I'm running Wine 1.5.1.
I don't get an error message or anything.
I try running the install executable in the terminal, still without an error.
This is what I get for trying to run it in the terminal:
Code:
josh at HAL9000:~$ wine '/media/SC4DELUXE1/setup.exe'
josh at HAL9000:~$
I try running the AutoRun.exe file.
I get this error:

SimCity 4 + RH easily crashes with addons and heavy city.
Hello.
First, thank you a lot for Wine. It is really a fabulous project and ex windows users like me really say you thanks a lot each time we use Wine.
Second, I have installed SimCity 4 (with the help of PlayOnLinux) and its expansion pack Rush Hour. Many things worked quite well. I would say this game almost works well. But here are my issues :
- Game easily crashes with a heavy city with

Error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct3D.
I thought wine didn't support direct3D and that was why I was

FYI: Wine works well :)
Just thought you guys might enjoy hearing what my boss and I have
found today. For the past few years, we've developed a variety of
in-house software that runs on Windows, mainly using Open Watcom C++,
but as of last year we've been moving some things to Linux. Today we
picked up a few of the Windows binaries we use around the place and,
unmodified, ran them under Wine. One of them needed

[PATCH] pci: rename get_module_name_from_pci_ids
Rename get_module_name_from_pci_ids to get_module_name_from_pcimap since
the module names are read from the modules.pcimap and not pci.ids file.

Automatically close Windows program on crash?
I have a program that, under certain circumstances, will crash out
with the "Serious Error" popup. In order to better probe the crash
with an automated test harness, I'd like to be able to skip that popup
and just have the process terminate. Is there a way to do that? Tell
Wine "hey, if this program segfaults, just close it without asking
me"?
Hoping this is something
