Help Getting Program to Run
Hello, I am a new Wine user and have what is perhaps an odd request. I am trying to switch over to Ubuntu completely but haven't done that just yet. I have a Windows XP host machine with Ubuntu (8.10) installed as a VirtualBox guest machine. I have installed Wine on Ubuntu. My wife loves the Windows Spider game so I thought I would try to get that to run under Wine. Alas, no luck. I have

Can the WINE window be larger on high resolution settings?
I was reading this post http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=45535&sid=6957add8af3402a8afa68d8527121e2d and others like it looking for a way to make the content in the WINE window look larger. I mean to look like 800x600 resolution when the monitor settings is at 1024x768. So, I have typed this on the command line: Code: wine explorer /desktop=spider,800x600 spider.exe or wine explorer

Thoughts regarding the database compromise....
1] not using secure http for log-ins seems a bit 20th century. 2] to join this mailing list, I needed to send my new credentials over unsecured http - see 1] above. 3] to change password from the compromised reset password, I need to use unsecured http - see 1] above. My point here is that if you are saddened, upset or concerned about the compromise, might the 3 above points also be on the list

Is there a difference ...?
Doh123, how is running a program off an NTFS partition asking for trouble? Ntfsprogs seems to handle it just fine. I know that NTFS doesn't let you mark a file as executable, and that the filesystem is susceptible to fragmentation, but you should just be able to tell it to run rather than display and be good. It shouldn't cause destruction. I think there might even be an NTFS defrag tool

More problems with latest of of Sid
1. Windows solitaire and freecell used to run flawlessly. Now, freecell will not even execute and solitaire comes up almost without cards showing. Freecell run in a terminal kicks about resolution and a registry key relating to fonts and cannot load cards.dll. Solitaire kicks about the same thing but gets the dll. 2. As I posted previously, MIDI applications do not see any MIDI devices. This

This is a rather old version of GNOME. Hass this problem come up in recent times? Is there any current *nix that uses GNOME 2.21.90 or 2.21.91? - d.q
