steam games not running
Hey,
I am trying to get steam/steam-gaming working on my system. I have gotten the steam client working, but fail to launch games. I will be using half-life as the game I am trying to launch for this topic as it is one that most people can get running as far as i can tell.
I have a x86_64 intel i7 system with a nVidia GT218 [NVS 3100M] graphics card.
I am running Fedora 13

Steam won't start
I just tried to install Steam through Wine and PlayOnLinux.
It installed successfully, but hung on the client update. I try to start Steam.exe with the command 'wine steam.exe' as well as the PlayOnLinux launcher. The window pops up for a moment, saying 'Connecting account', which then goes away and the program pops up an error message after about the money.
Any ideas? Would the

new sound problem
Hello All,
I've run into a sound problem with Dawn of War. It's the only game I can currently get running under wine so I can't test beyond it right now. I was having problems with the models in the game (see here: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=8367) but they are working now after I upgraded my version of wine to the release candidate I got off of my openSUSE 11.2

Since update of January 15th Left 4 Dead 2 (steam) crashes
Hi all.
I was using wine 1.3.10 to run Steam and Left 4 Dead2 successfully until recently. Last week, there was an update for Steam, and now I can't start Left 4 Dead 2. It starts up, but then immediately crashes. The window "Preparing to launch Left 4 Dead 2" pops up, and then disappears. It worked flawlessly last Sunday, and yesterday it stopped working.
I am getting the same

Steam in Wine
Hello,
I am trying to load up Steam via Wine (Latest Wine and Latest steam client) in x86 Debian Lenny (5). So far I have managed to install Team Fortress 2 (Using the DVD based Installer) and have managed to get the UI to show up for about 5 minutes and then crash. If I attempt to startup Steam it connects just fine, then the main window shows up and this Valve Hardware Survey box comes up, and

Sudden Failure of All Games
Most notably, Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike Source, in addition to Homeworld 2, all ran perfectly. I left for a while and returned. Now I get a strange error, as the games still work, but refuse to stay on the screen. It's like they fight for a while witht he operating system, then run fine in my taskbar.
Here is the full log:

Steam crashes at startup. Doesn't even reach log in screen
Hello!
I've followed the Steam install guide for Wine, but I still can't get Steam to start. It just shows up in the task bar for a couple of seconds, then it disappears and nothing happens. I get these error messages when I launch from console, but they dont't make me much smarter.
I'm running Fedora 14 x64 with the standard open source non-Nvidia Nvidia drivers.

Steam installs and runs fine on POL, but not Wine ?
Hey guys,
Can anyone help me close the gap between my POL and Wine setups? I currently have a laptop running PlayOnLinux 3.8.8 and a desktop running only Wine 1.3.9 (Fedora 14).
As the subject read, the laptop with POL is running fine, but a generic install with the latest .msi file from the Steam website is not.
Steam on Wine, was able to run it's own autoupdate, but after that refuses

You're probably all tired of people like me...
Alright. Fedora 13. Wine. Steam. kgo.
It's not working. Steam 'updates' to its latest release on installation (as it should) but the app quits as soon as it launches.
I ran it from the terminal and get the following error dump:
Code:
[David at localhost Steam]$ wine steam

Steam will not load after update
I had Steam/TF2 working. Using Suse 11.1 64-bit, Nvidia card/driver, 4Gb RAM, 2.6 Intel Quad CPU. ALSA sound (pulse audio uninstalled), Windows Vista, full settings in winecfg. My TF2 crashed and when I started Steam again, the Steam update downloaded and installed. Then Steam wouldn't start any more.
I tried a new .wine dir. Followed instructions for removing/reinstalling Steam. Nada.

Steam on wine 1.0.1
Hello,
I've recently installed wine without any special modifiers, I did it through the add/remove programs on Ubuntu 9.04. Steam installed without a problem, but will not run. After it was done installing, it gave me the 'updating steam' box and then just quits with no error.
Here is the output of the terminal window while installing:

Issues with wine
Hello,
I've been trying to solve my problems for days now without ANY success.
I'm running on slackware 12.2 with wine-1.1.13. I've installed the latest drivers for my Nvidia GTX 260.
I've installed Spotify which works great, I've also installed Steam and updated counter-strike without any problems. So my problem is that each time I've started Steam, and I double click on

Steam (HL2) locks up on 64 bit Ubuntu
Yesterday I downloaded and installed the latest version of Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, and after setting up my hardware I installed Wine 1.1.12, and have been working on getting HL2 running, but with little/no success. I got Steam installed, but when it opens none of the HTML pages render (saying "HTML is currently disabled."), and when I go to the My Games tab to have it download any of the
