Current best AMD processor for running mainstream games?
Hi all, I want to buy a processor that will be good for gaming in Wine in FreeBSD. I see that many game engines are starting to take advantage of multi-core systems, however it appears that multi-threaded applications are not distributed properly across multiple cores (Ex: Starcraft II - http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20882 ). So I'm not sure if I should aim

Strange messages after installing Quad-core processor
After installing a Phenom II X4 processor (replacing a single core Semperon) I am getting these messages on the console and in dmesg: Warning Timer ISR/2: Time went backwards: delta=-250135996 delta_cpu=13864004 shadow=1355887856733 off=870052783 processed=1357008044419 cpu_processed=1356744044419 0: 1357004044419 1: 1356696044419 2: 1356744044419 3: 1356696044419 printk: 41 messages

intel dual core processors and new kernel packages
I've just got bunch of RHEL4 erratas (looks like U2 is out). Looking at the kernel errata (kernel-2.6.9-22.EL), one of the things in list of new features is "Intel dual core support". What does this exactly means? Does it mean if I have dual core pentium processor and use older kernel that it will use only one core, and I need newer kernel to use both cores? Or is it only

Is kvm-clock dependant on hardware of Physical Server?
I've got a three Centos 5.5 KVM severs, but only one of them is presenting guests with the kvm-clock source. The two servers I'm not seeing kvm-clock on have Athlon x2 64bit processors. The other server with kvm-clock has a Phenom II X6 1090T Processor. I've checked the system configuration and all the boxes have the same set of RPM packages. To confirm that the issue was

New phenom quad core and centos 5.1
Any one here tried the phenom (B3 stepping) and centos 5.1? Any issues? I would presume there are no issues, but thought I'd ask before moving on. I am considering getting a Phenom 9850. Wish the clock speed was higher at this point. Jerry

TSC and Power Management Events on AMD Processors
You might find this useful ... TSC and Power Management Events on AMD Processors - Nov 2, 2005 - Rich Brunner, AMD Fellow Current AMD Opteron(tm) and Athlon(tm)64 processors provide power management mechanisms that independently adjust the performance state ("P-state") and power state ("C-state") of the processor[1][2]; these state changes can affect a

No performance increase from dual-core processors?
Hey all, I was planning on getting a new computer for the new year to help with my dissertation research, and recently had an opportunity to compare the performance of my 1.6 GHz Pentium M laptop, and a 2.8 GHz dual-core Pentium processor (both running WinXP professional 32-bit). I run a lot of long simulations, so I was hoping to get something that would speed them up. I ran a few quick

[PATCH] Added the new Processors agent.
The Processors agent reports details regarding the processing power for the managed node. Defined the agent within schema.xml. Wrote the wrapper code to create and populate an instance of the agent. The properties for the Processors agent have also been trimmed back to what is readily available via HAL. Signed-off-by: Darryl L. Pierce <dpierce at redhat.com> --- src/Makefile.am | 26

Windows 7 Processor Device cannot start. Code 10
I have a running Windows 7 HVM DomU. It appears to be working with VGA passthrough etc. However, in the device manager I''m seeing some errors. Listed under "Other devices" Xen pci device #0 Says "The drivers for this device are not installed".- apparently this is normal for passthrough devices? And under "Processors" I have 13 instances of "AMD

TF2 with GTX260 and Quad-core Phenom II - what performance?
I have a GTX260 216 core, running the latest Nvidia binary driver(260.xx). I have a Phenom II x4 3.2ghz, and 4GB of DDR3-1600 ram. All in all, not a bad system. Now, my problem is that no matter what settings I use, I tend to get in the 30-50fps range with DX8.1. Lower if there's a lot of action onscreen. The interesting thing is that my frame-rate doesn't change significantly with

Re: multiple core support
it's really not complicated I think: only api changes to write on any position in the file if that's not possible already with existing function. I'm not sure if decoding can have multi-core support: you need an api for writing pcm files in different parts then and this is maybe more difficult to check if it's valid pcm data since the decoder can only check for valid flac streams

How to utilise dual cores and multi-processors on WinXP
Hello, I have a question that I was wondering if anyone had a fairly straightforward answer to: what is the quickest and easiest way to take advantage of the extra cores / processors that are now commonplace on modern machines? And how do I do that in Windows? I realise that this is a complex question that is not answered easily, so let me refine it some more. The type of scripts that I'm

Re: multiple core support
Hmm, You're actually correct, when you put it that way. Because the audio blocks are coded independently, you could speed things by having the encoder (or decoder) do a little up-front processing on the metadata, then use the overall settings to divide the file into sections and run the FLAC process in parallel. However, I think it is generally frowned upon in some circles to

Warhammer Dawn Of War: Dual core system: only one of the core working?
Hello. I'd like to know if, under Windows, on a dual-core system, both cores are used by this game. For me, under wine, though both cores are detected correctly, only one of them is used (one is 100%, the other 0%). Can anybody tell me if the game behaves the same under Windows? Thanks. -- Fabrice DELENTE

World of Warcraft Problem
My problem started when i upgraded my Video Card from an Nvidia geforce 9500gt to a geforce 210. With the 9500gt i could run all day long with the texture resolution on High and no problems. With the Geforce 210 with Texture Resolution set on anything but low on certain camera angles I will lose the NPC's but turn the camera angle they will come back and move again they will disappear again.
