Duke Nukem Forever Demo (Steam) not launching
Got someone this demo working? 50,- EUR is a lot money to me so I like to play the demo first. But it seems to be impossible? I have latest Wine from GIT and did the required winetricks steps (dinput8, xinput, removed asterisk from dinput8 user.reg line, added xinput1_3 (with native only) to winecfg, corefonts, tahoma installed; all done in a new wine bottle aka. WINEPREFIX). A +d3d logfile

ocfs2 crash on intensive disk write
Hi, I'm getting system (and eventually cluster) crashes on intensive disk writes in ubuntu server 10.04 with my OCFS2 file system. I have an iSER (infiniband) backed shared disk array with OCFS2 on it. There are 6 nodes in the cluster, and the heartbeat interface is over a regular 1GigE connection. Originally, the problem presented itself while I was doing performance testing and

Certain Steam games won't launch
I did some moderate searching and didn't see my problem, so I'll post it here, as I believe it's a Wine problem (although it's very possible it's not, Ubuntu is an interesting beast XD). About... oh, I'd say 3 weeks ago, I tried to open Garry's Mod and it said "launching", and the launching window closed as normal, but then nothing happened after that. This

Updated steam, Portal 1 won't launch
I played Portal 1 for a while yesterday. When I was done, Steam asked to be updated and I let it. Since that update Portal has refused to launch. Here's what happens: The intro videos play, and then the screen stays black. There is absolutely no disk or CPU activity. It's like it just refuses to load. System monitor says hl2.exe is at "futex_waite_queue_me" Other source games

Steam on WINE with Fedora 17
Hello, I am not sure if this is the most optimal place to ask this question, but I may as well go ahead and shoot: Steam will not login. I have a day old install of Fedora 17, and am going through my usual routine of using and tweaking a new release until it breaks. Unfortunately, I am cut off from my primary messenger, Steam. I have set SELinux to permissive, even went as far as installing the

Since update of January 15th Left 4 Dead 2 (steam) crashes
Hi all. I was using wine 1.3.10 to run Steam and Left 4 Dead2 successfully until recently. Last week, there was an update for Steam, and now I can't start Left 4 Dead 2. It starts up, but then immediately crashes. The window "Preparing to launch Left 4 Dead 2" pops up, and then disappears. It worked flawlessly last Sunday, and yesterday it stopped working. I am getting the same

Counter Strike: Source
I've been playing Counter Strike Source in Wine on and off for several years. It was working recently and for whatever reason stopped working as I was using maybe version 1.3, now I'm on version 1.3.2, although I don't think the problem is version related. At some point I guess something the configuration changed or got corrupted. I started over with a new .wine directory and it

Steam, Garry's Mod not launching.
Hello people of Wine. Let me just say, the developers of Wine, your AWESOME. Keep up the brilliant work, you have helped my transition to Linux become 10 times easier. But, anyway, I have one small issue with Steam games on Wine. Im running Steam as Windows XP and when i go to launch Garry's Mod(Even with -dxlevel 8) it will show up the Launching Garry's Mod window, then nothing comes

Some (Steam) applications not launching
It seems to happen only with Steam games. Sometimes they fail to 'start'. If I go to Gnome System Monitor it says like: 'name of the process / Sleeping / 63.6 MB / futex_wait_queue_me'. It happens with a lot of games, sometimes they start and sometimes they got stuck (the same that was launching before at a later time isn't launching anymore). Any suggestions?

Launching Steam games broken in SVN.
Anyone else notice that launching of games (CSS, HL2, etc.) from Steam appears to be foobar'd using the current SVN (wine-1.1.15-221-g79cc416)? I haven't had a chance to do _proper_ regression test yet, but a quick test of jumping back to 1.14 made things work again. Other games (tested with Anarchy Online) are working fine with the current SVN, so I'm supposing the bug is somehow

Steam crashes upon launching (Mint Katya)
I had just installed Linux Mint katya on my Dell Dimension 5000 computer because Windows kept making it lag and so on. I installed Wine and Steam soon after installing it, but whenever I tried to launch Steam it always crashes and quits as soon as the welcome and update screens pop up. I've googled for solutions to this problem and they have come to nil.

Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace: Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address

Launching Source engine games results in crash, small res
Well I'm able to get Steam running fine, however I've tried to play the following: Team Fortress 2 Left 4 Dead Counter-strike Source Portal When I try to launch Source based games the screen goes black and then it resizes the resolution to something like 1024x600. I am able to get the Left 4 Dead intro movie to play with this script: WINEPREFIX=~/.wine.steam wine
